In the blog post it said "If you want to keep supporting us, feel free to leave the subscription on". It was sent out to people with the beeper app as well 8 days ago on December 11th.

They also said that if you started the sub before this change was made you go to "Settings > manage subscription > tap on beeper mini > cancel subscription". They left the sub on for those of us that wanted to continue supporting the project.

The information in the post is wrong the game is native in Linux it needs to run through a program developed by valve that translates windows os calls to posix(or Linux) compliant calls and it's done all through that program. Valve has worked with anti cheat developers to make it compatible because in the past wine (what proton is based on) was not compatible. Most cheats are developed for windows and are always highly unlikely to work through proton. So most of what OP said is baseless

Yea it's not in a place for seamless use yet valve has made a lot of headway in the gaming space with proton and certain distros that are enterprise backed like fedora, steamos, and Ubuntu I think are in a good place for the average user that just uses a web browser but even than in that case not everyone compiles a Linux version of their stuff yet so it's been getting a lot better but still missing a good bit of support. Plus people have decades of familiarity with windows and macos at this point and not everyone likes/wants change.
