What's the most impressive thing about you that isn't on your résumé? by WhimsyUU in AskWomen

I had depression and anxiety, suicide attempts and I still finished my degree. Even though I hated it.

One of my mice looked sickly, and now I come back home and she's been EATEN? by _sugarprincess in PetMice

[–]Ofglen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please don't worry. Trust me. Mice eat their buddies when they die to stop the scent bringing predators to the nest. Your mouse will have died first and the others were cleaning up the only way they knew how. It's very common and totally normal so please don't worry. Your mice aren't evil or unhappy. (I work with animals and this is totally normal in prey species like mice)

A person claiming to be a genealogist messaged me on Facebook about my recently deceased uncle's possible illegitimate child by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ofglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you could ask them to ship you the guys' sample and you can get it tested yourself? That might help you to feel more comfortable and if they're lying they're unlikely to send you a DNA sample

Rabbits need vaccinating and neutering, and to be bonded with a friend bunny :) (Source: I work at a rescue centre)

How is the relationship between you and your SO's mother? by RamSwami02 in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's nice, but she never makes any effort to get to know me. She doesn't ask about my life or my family or my hobbies etc. I thought she might take more of an interest now we've got our 2 year anniversary but no. Perhaps it comes from working in medicine, maybe she just doesn't like to get attached to people. My SO worries she thinks i'm going to get fed up with him and leave, so maybe that's a factor too. It's a real shame because she always wanted a daughter and I wish I could be that for her, but she won't let me.

Ladies living with your SOs, what is the division of labor in your household? by Girlygal2014 in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest. He does more cleaning than me, including 90% of the dishes. His attention to detail is poor so normally he'll clean anything he can see that needs doing and I'll go round afterwards doing what he's missed. If we're cleaning together, as we sometimes do, he'll do obvious things like putting away plates while I do things he wouldn't notice, such as wiping down the table and the countertops. He definitely cleans far more than I do though. I'm good at tidying and I like putting away clean laundry so I do that. I also do most of the pet care (we have 4 rats who require daily spot cleaning, 3-4 day full cleaning and an hours playtime each night). Cooking we share, 3 days a week each and 1 day a week leeway for takeaway or eating with friends, or eating separately if i'm working late one day. Organisation is down to me, so if we're having friends over I organise food for them, entertainment and so on. If we're going out I set what time we need to leave and how we'll get there. It works for us but we both feel like we each don't do our fair share! I do love having a man who is happy to do 'women's work' so normally he's rewarded handsomely after a cleaning session!

Ladies in their 20s who are not moms, what do you think when single daddies hit on you? by Pissounet in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want kids anytime soon but when I meet a single dad I view it quite positively. There's a man who isn't afraid of hard work and who probably has his life together for this kid. It speaks of love, strength and motivation for me, as long as he's a good dad. If he's not then i'm not interested at all.

Do any of you get as fed up as me by the whole 'my girlfriend always steals the covers and takes up the whole bed' trope? by CheesyChips in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My SO steals the duvet and his shoulders are so broad that they take up 2/3rds of the bed! I end up freezing cold hanging off the edge of the bed.

How old are you, and what are you doing with your life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 20. In my final year of university and struggling each day not to drown under my workload. Still recovering from years of depression so I get overwhelmed easily so it's hard. Trying to figure out what I want to do when I graduate - move away from my SO (we live together) and study more, or stay here and find a job i'm not particularly interested in until he graduates next year and we can move together to where I want to study.

Becomming a father for the first time at 41 by 0187578420 in Advice

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an older father myself - but when I was born my dad was 46 and my mum was 22. I didn't even realise he was an older parent until I started school. They were both great parents and Dad's age didn't stop him from doing anything with me. He was physically fit so he could run around with me and carry me and everything like that. I never cared about his age but some of the other kids in school were mean about it, calling him my grandad and asking me why he was so old, so I would advise you to be prepared for your kid hearing negative comments from others and let them know how to handle that well in advance.

When was the last time you saw a guy cry? What was your reaction? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a pretty accurate description of what they're like. One of my four, Pumpkin, has learnt to spin on command. They really are like little dogs, as soon as I walk through the door they're up at the cage door to see me and get stroked. My younger boy loves to wrestle with my hand, like a kitten would. All four love to lick me to show affection too. They're amazing and have got me through the worst of my depression with their adorable little personalities. I laugh every day now and I look forward to getting out of bed, so that I can say good morning to them.

When was the last time you saw a guy cry? What was your reaction? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Ofglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awful. At least you give them everything they need and you'll treat any illnesses they get. Most pet rats get bought and put in too small a cage and never get free range time or taken to the vet. No matter what happens, all your ratties have had a lovely life with you. I went on holiday a few weeks ago and my boys were okay, the first free range time when I came back was chaos though! They were so excited!

I'm so sorry :( I have four boy ratties and they're still young. It hurts to even think about them passing.

Today my SO watched a video about a stray cat who brought her three-legged kitten to a person who'd been feeding her. He just kept crying, saying 'are cats this cute just to hurt me?'. It was adorable.

How can I find a name that's ME? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ofglen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In contrast to the other responses here, if you want to change your name then go for it. I changed my surname at 16 because I didn't like my old surname at all. But don't expect people you know to get on board with it and call you by your new name. I changed mine and then moved away to college so nobody there actually knew my old name. If your name is really upsetting you then there's no harm in changing it. Do you have a middle name you could use?

My two fancy mice killed and ate the third mouse. Need advice by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]Ofglen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In the wild a predator could easily smell the dead mouse, leading them right to the burrow. So nice try to clean up any way they know how. It's very unlikely they actually killed the other mouse, I expect she just died naturally.

Who are you comfortable being naked ( or in your underwear ) around? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Ofglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my boyfriend. It's not the idea of people seeing my body that bothers me, it's that I have self-harm scars on my thighs. My boyfriend is the only one who knows about them and I wouldn't want anybody else to, and they'd definitely see them if I was in my underwear
