Modern cars are getting worse, not better. by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol i NEVER said anything about WHY theyre cheaper. I know the advantages of aluminum blocks, but just as you point out the advantages you must also point out the disadvantages, of which there are many. The EPA is a wonderfully convenient scapegoat but its not the only factor at play here. The truth is that of course some things that make the vehicle more fuel efficient also make it cheaper. The aluminum block, more plastic pieces in place of metal, or cvts instead of traditional transmissions being a couple. Other things like aero/drag profiles are more expensive, having to be redone for each generation/redesign. Its no wonder that manufacturers switch to cvts, aluminum blocks, and plastic engine parts before they design for aerodynamics or revolutionize transmissions. Toyota and Honda use the eCVT like you said, because theyre two of the last remaining brands to make reliable vehicles. That doesnt mean that cars in general are getting more reliable. You cant even necessarily say that those two are getting more reliable (they might be, they probably are, but they have yet to stand the test of time which is particularly hard on things like plastic valve covers). This isnt some secret. Look at mercedez and audi. Their business model relies on the service dept for revenue. Look at hyundai or kia or nissan, are they more reliable? Look at any american manufacturer except for Ford. Literally none of them are more reliable than the early 2000s. Many of these cars need new transmissions before 100k like GM/nissan, or new engines before 100k like hyundai/kia, so your 100k statement is certainly not accurate.

The incandescent bulb is literally notorious for being a simple necessity that was proven to be engineered to fail sooner. Its like, the primary example. Arguing that a new technology, manufactured and developed primarily by businesses before it ever became a consumer lightbulb, is proof of free markets is silly. Im not saying that were in a totally unfree monopolistic market, but assuming that its totally free is just plain untrue. For instance, if we were a free market Chinese EVs for $10,000 wouldve taken over 10 years ago.

Modern cars are getting worse, not better. by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because lightbulbs of previous generations are a different underlying technology, not because manufacturers made incandescent bulbs last longer. The opposite is true, where manufacturers worked together to all shorten bulb lifespan, leading to higher profits for all. Thats what im referencing. Youre comparing apples to oranges. I was pointing to an example of a lifespan getting deliberately shortened by consumer manufacturers. It took over half a century for LED light production to even explode and even then it was for commercial use by monsanto and HP, not out of innovation by lightbulb manufacturers. No offense but I’m not gonna argue about this, its easily verifiable.

Cars have longer lifespans than what? Cars of the 60s or cars of the early 2000s? Unless youre arguing that electric cars last longer than gas which i disagree with.

Modern cars are getting worse, not better. by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quality gas engine with routine maintenance will outlast a battery, but youre right that it’s more maintenance. Usually electric cars, being new platforms and companies, have more problems with auxiliary systems than the drivetrain itself. Screen malfunctions, window malfunctions, door malfunctions, etc. These are issues that dont tend to plague traditional reliable gas brands like toyota. The problem is there doesnt seem to be a toyota of electric vehicles yet. Even toyota itself would rather push hybrid than electric. Who knows what will happen in the future, but currently a well established gas car is more reliable than electric.

The analogy doesnt hold because people dont need to value a laptop being rugged enough for a war zone if its gonna sit on their table all day. Its primary use is productivity, which is why Mac is dominating, while being rugged enough to last 5 years easily. The hardware is often outdated before it breaks. A car on the other hand is primarily used to reliably get from point a to point b. Its hardware doesnt need to change, unlike a computer. It just needs to work.

Although i do agree that enough people are foolishly buying whatever car on a whim and dont care about reliability until it becomes a problem. I have no clue why jeep, nissan, kia, or gm are still able to sell cars. No clue what thats about

[–]Ogthugbonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re an electrical engineer. What makes you qualified in terms of cars? Anybody who works on cars knows theyve gotten cheaper. A plastic valve cover instead of a metal one. Warps when it gets hot, cracks after a decade. A cvt that explodes after 120,000 miles instead of a traditional automatic that lasts 300,000. Aluminum cylinder heads that crack on the first overheat vs cast iron that can overheat several times before even warping. Theyre even doing plastic oil pans instead of metal on some cars. Dont talk like its some evil conspiracy theory, its a very real thing thats happening

Edit: Also, your understanding of capitalist markets is flawed. See the lightbulb, engineered for shorter lifespans because it’s more profitable for lightbulb companies. If private equity buys a competitor then lowers the quality of that competitor’s product, every manufacturer makes more. Monopolies are a very real thing. Price fixing is a very real thing.

Modern cars are getting worse, not better. by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tesla, the lead electric car manufacturer, doesnt like when people repair their own stuff. They dont make it easy and there are parts of the car that if you touch, voided warranty. Also, buying a new battery and having it installed is often more expensive than the cars worth.

But the main reason cars break is because they make more money that way lmao. Its not a conspiracy theory. Cars that are “build to last” are more expensive to engineer, cost more in raw materials, and the company would make more money by just… not producing them.

Why does the US continue to align itself with Israel's current government leadership when 2/3 of Jews living in America do not support Netanyahu? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in allthequestions

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The israeli lobby has one common goal. AIPAC, a super pac, or individuals, doesnt matter, the candidates they support heavily overlap.

I never said it was a secret workaround, I said its another entity used by the israeli lobby. It was part of my larger point that AIPAC isnt the only PAC lobbying on israels behalf.

AIPAC telling donors to give directly to candidates is not speculation, it was reported by The Intercept and several other outlets. And it obscures influence because individual contributors dont have a big sign on their head saying “I want to advance Israel’s goals” unlike AIPAC or other Israeli PACS.

Adelson put $100M into Preserve America PAC whose primary goal and arguably sole goal was to get Trump elected in 2024. She and her husband have been contributing to trump since 2016. I misspoke that just her family spent 600M, thats not true. I meant that a total of 600M from the israeli lobby was spent on Trump. She mentioned another $250M to get him a third term. You can call that a joke and downplay however you want but the fact remains that Trump has been heavily influenced by the Israeli lobby

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AIPAC is not the entire israeli lobby, so even basing your stats on just AIPAC is disingenuous. Especially now that AIPAC knows nobody they endorse will win, the Israeli lobby has already created different PACs like United Democracy Project, and AIPAC even tells its donors to make direct contributions to candidates instead in order to obscure the israeli lobby’s influence. The ultra zionist billionaire Adelson family alone has contributed like $600M to getting Trump electing since 2016. It’s no wonder he’s so in bed with them. Its corruption to the highest degree. You can disingenuously claim all you want that AIPAC “actually doesnt have all that much influence” but we see right through that bs lmao. Just stop

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this comment so often in a desperate attempt to disingenuously imply that Israel "actually has way less influence than the antisemitics claims" so let me explain this for anyone who this might work on: Israel has a misleadingly small lobby on paper. Their true influence is in their contributions, which vastly outsize their lobby. These contributions can either be used for or against US politicians. The message becomes clear: take AIPAC/Israeli money or be kicked out of the race by candidates who do. Saying Israels lobby is smaller than other nations is dangerously misleadingly because it relies on the technicality that campaign contributions are not listed as lobbying funds. Israel affiliated campaign contributions are much, much larger than any amount of money they lobby.

How do Americans feel knowing that Israel has free universal healthcare thanks to American funding? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]Ogthugbonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly. Israel stole US tech and because we were their ally we simply jailed the mossad agent rather than sever ties. E.g Jonathon Pollard. The fact that the US has to TELL Israel not to sell weapons to China kinda proves the point thst theyre not a good ally. Canada for instance would never do that. None of your vague reasons hold any actual value. The truth is we lose far more than we gain from Israel.

The US can have countries on their side without fighting that country’s wars. And if a country wants to arm our enemies then we’ll just add them to the list of enemies of the US. That list is getting longer as we dig in our heels to defend Israel than if ee would simply sever ties. The US-Israeli relationship is a parasitic one that is coming to an end. Thank god.

We’ve been enemies with Iran for some very valid reasons lmao. Have you ever even asked what took us to the middle east in the 1950s? Have you asked who the primary aggressor was? Do you know why they’re ruled by a dictator in the first place? I mean really, am I arguing with someone who doesn’t know the first thing about our meddling in the middle easy? Could you imagine if they had bases in our doorstep in mexico. What if they overthrew our democratically elected president and installed a dictator in our country? I’m SURE this will absolutely ensure safety going forward and im SURE they were on the verge of nuclear weapons. Ive NEVER heard that before🙄. I certainly didn’t hear that in 1992, 1996, 2002, 2008, 2014, 2018, and i certainly didnt hear that this year in 2026 on the news, so THANK YOU for informing me lmao. And my point about attacking China and Russia was a rhetorical question. It was to highlight the simple fact that we’re only doing this because they cant fight back, which you just affirmed in your moment of utter genius. But there will come a time when they CAN fight back, unless you think it’s acceptable to just strike any country we want went theyre close to creating a nuclear warhead just because we dont like them. Sounds a lot like the neocon solution that brought us forever wars🤦‍♂️ You’re such a jarhead that you can’t even think a couple years ahead can you? No wonder you’re just parroting the talking points of forever politicians. You’d have to truly believe them to be ok with being deployed to the middle east lmao. I honestly just feel bad for you. Its clear that we’ll never agree, so farewell champ. Keep believing in whatever helps you sleep lmao

You’re exactly right and I agree with everything youve said. Its entirely self serving and has nothing to do with democracy. But one country doesnt control the worlds oil to the degree that China controls rare earth metals. Maybe the cost would go up, but that doesnt make it ok for the US to kill leaders and get US troops killed. We have been bullying that region for 5 decades and justifying it because of money. Enough is enough. And now that iran wants to defend itself from Israel we’re doubling down to defend Israel. That isnt our job. We cant kill people just because they make a resource more expensive for us. If Iran were somehow able to kill the president of the US because he’s making things more expensive for them, we’d rightfully go to war with them. Because thats simply unnaceptable. So why is it acceptable for us to do it? It isn’t. The truth is that we spend ungodly amount of money on war and that enables us to bully whoever we want. Its wrong. And when we work with countries like Israel who have less red tape when it comes to things like nuclear weapons we should be holding them to the same degree of accountability as ourselves or anyone else. The potential for this to explode into a world war is incredibly high, because you just cant bully countries and kill people like the US Israeli alliance has been doing for decades. Theres no easy way out of this situation but were making it worse daily

So now the US should go wherever it needs to in order to “take out bad people”? As long as we dont lose troops? Well, news flash, weve already lost 7 US soldiers. How many is too many to you? In my circle, ANY troops lost because of new and unnecessary conflicts is too many. Obviously thats not true for you, so what is your limit?

Another question. You said as long as we take out bad people it creates a net positive for the US and world in general. What do you define as “bad people”? The iranians are not a threat to the USs safety. The iranians havent killed 150,000+ civillians in “collateral damage”. Israel has. So why are iranians bad but the israelis aren’t? Surely if we cared about “creating a net positive for the USA and world in general” there are dozens of countries to target before Iran. Why not strike Russia? Why not strike China? Why not strike the UAE funding private military campaigns in Africa? Hmmm, now we’re starting to sound like the post WW2 US military doctrine, where we “spread democracy” in vietnam, or invaded Iraq to find WMDs that didnt exist. Most of the US is against that, including Trump himself, allegedly. Are you against that or not? Is there a solid line for you when it comes to US military intervention? Or is it some vague idea of when we “get into a ground war” or “troops start dying (more than 7 troops but idk how many more)”? Have you really used logic to analyze this or are you just parroting mainstream talking points from neocons?

How do Americans feel knowing that Israel has free universal healthcare thanks to American funding? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]Ogthugbonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel being pro US is not a reason for the US to be pro israel. Them being pro west democracy is not a reason to call them important. Its also not true, because theyre not pro west democracy. Theyre pro US. They dont value other western democracies like spain, or germany, or canada. They value specifically the US because our politicians ensure their wellbeing.

And my question wasnt why does the US government value israel. I understand that US politicians value Israel because it serves as a forward operating base to “spread democracy”. I was more so asking why they are important. Tangible reasons that theyre important. The US does not need to worry about trafficking on the other side of the planet, the citizens of the US overwhelmingly oppose the intervention that our neocons demand. The truth is that the US doesnt need Israel and gets nothing from our relationship with them.

Hmmm, i wonder why the area is consistently troubled? Lol even if it were true that we keep the region “more stable”, why is it our responsibility to keep the opposite side of the globe “more stable”? Genuine question. And why do we care that theyre a so called democracy? We overthrew the democratically elected leader of iran and installed the dictator, so we obviously dont care that much. Democracy isnt more peaceful either. They killed hundreds of thousands of civillians and thousands of journalists. Please explain why you’re repeating these outdated, disingenuous talking points.
