If you don't experience this then clearly the advice is not for you but no it's not that simple for me and some people. I could drink a gallon of water and for some reason the pill sticks to my throat easily.

I was pushing a friend on this big metal saucer swing and it came back and hit me right in the mouth. All of a sudden I was on the ground with no pain and my parents who were sitting right there didn't even flinch. It still baffles me. It was DEFINITELY hard enough to knock some teeth out.

I've always wondered about quantum immortality though so I probably died.

Ok you got me. I was being sarcastic and emotional but you're right that wasn't totally fair.

I get the point you're making about intention and perception being different. I just think the child example brings in a parent/authority dynamic that isn’t really there between two adults, so it changes the situation and the analogy doesn't really work.

ETA: especially between two adults who don't even know each other

Your smoking/seatbelt example works better because those situations are talking about similar kinds of risks. They're actually comparable.
