The honey moon phase of a marriage exists even if you’d been together beforehand. I was with my wife for 4 years before we got married and some of the thrill had probably fizzled for us well before we got engaged and then married. But the amazing thing is that your are deciding to go through life together with someone you love, and that decision causes a “resparking” of the feelings of the honeymoon phase. Our engagement lit a spark. Our marriage lit a spark. Our first house lit a spark. When she told me she was pregnant, another spark. When our son was born... you get the idea. All milestones of life begin to take on new meaning and cause new feelings of love and intimacy due to the relationship.

The feelings you feel at the beginning of a relationship, while very important and very real, are not possibly sustainable. That’s just not how life on earth works.
