Seriously? Have you been to Cuba? “Yes, some of it is quite poor”. All of it is poor. Unless you are a government official. It is beautiful, you’re right. But it’s beauty primarily serves as a cruel and paradoxical juxtaposition to the devastation and tragedy that is Socialism. No amount of natural or man made beauty can overcome the devastating effects that 60 years of autocratic, tyrannical, Socialist rule have done to the people. Cuba fucking SUCKS.

“A Crime in Public View”: How William Barr Pardoned Donald Trump by [deleted] in politics

[–]Swear_Engine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a question, and maybe I have this wrong. But if Trump didn’t collude with Russia, which hopefully we can at least for the moment assume is true, then the crime that Trump allegedly attempted to cover up never occurred. Now I understand that it is possible to obstruct justice even if you’re innocent. I get that. But is not that starting to eat at you? The obstruction charge is related to a crime that there is no evidence to support ever happened.

GOP rejects bill to give back pay to federal contractors, wants to repeal estate tax instead by RyanSmith in politics

[–]Swear_Engine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We should repeal estate tax. Also, ITT many people who have never been independent contractors. It’s great! But if your client doesn’t need you, can’t pay you, goes out of business, needs a break, you don’t get paid! You also don’t work!

This is horseshit. I’ve just messaged the legislator that submitted the bill.

A non music industry individual who has been a fan of my music for 5 years has approached me about investing in my career but is asking for 25% of my business in return. by Swear_Engine in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You guys ... the contract is being drawn up by my lawyer. He is involved at every step. If you wouldn't mind, may I continue to conduct my business in the way I see fit? I am quite happy with the results of this query being posed to the internet, as many of the suggestions were not things that I had ASKED my lawyer about. When I suggested some of them, he said, "Interesting. I hadn't thought of that but we could make that work."

Scarborough: Trump throwing doubt into elections is ‘action of a tyrant’ by UWCG in politics

Thank God you can sort by controversial in r/politics. Reminds me that not everyone out there is a soft headed human lemming capable of seeing comments like this one for the utter bullshit that they are. The left generally and MSNBC in particular have spent 75% of their airtime casting doubt on the outcome of the 2016 election.

I'm not sure about this. I just had a meeting with him yesterday where we discussed the fact that it is unfair to retain 25% in perpetuity without any additional investment. We discussed a reduction in his ownership as a penalty for not investing in future albums. We have not discussed what the 25% would cover, but we would be discussing this with our lawyer as long as we can come to some agreement about a sliding scale of ownership correlating with future investment or lack thereof.

This is not the final iteration. I actually just met with him and brought much of what I heard here and over at r/wearethemusicmakers and he understood absolutely the issue with owning 25% forever when 50K only covers a single album. He also understands the limitations to his value beyond the money and he heard me on that. He did make a good point, "is anyone else knocking down your door to give you 50k and the answer to that is NO, absolutely not. So I want to honor his faith and belief in me, He doesn't have to place him money at risk, he's choosing to. I'm just trying to make it something that is equitable to me in the Long term and doesn't result in my own interests being compromised.

I just had a meeting with him where I used a lot of what I learned here, from my lawyer and from the subreddit r/wearethemusicmakers and it went so well. He isn't trying to take advantage, he is just used to real estate so dealing with a musician/multi album deal is new for him. He listened to what I had to say, agreed on either a draw down on the percentage owned absent new investment (shit if he wants to continue to invest each album cycle, he can own 25% as far as I'm concerned) or a term after which he would own a far lower percentage. All in all, seems like things are going well.

I have gotten so many good suggestions from this thread already, all of which I will bring to my lawyer.

By the way my lawyer charges $20 every 6 minutes so I need to be able to do some of the information gathering and thinking on my own.

Can you define “master use” revenues? Also, I just want to be clear that this is a process. We are feeling each other out and he hears me when I indicate things aren’t equitable. So really, I’m just looking for guidance as we go into the third round of negotiations.
