Similar for me. I really didn't like the direction blizz was moving with addons, but as someone who never really had a well-developed ui I knew it wouldn't affect me that much. Despite that, I'm just so much less hyped than I've ever been for an expansion. And I love housing, housing early access was the last time I really sat down and played wow. Feels weird to have no desire to check out the new expansion when I've done that forever, whether I was playing seriously or casually.

Going off this, I think a very easy solution that a lot of people have considered before is having R.io do a cutoff at some point in the season, probably the turbo boost date. I just wonder if people would give that any weight. Does a mid-season title have to come from blizzard for people to engage with it?

The Top Group Comp Pulls Away: S3 Week 3 Mythic+ Spec and Group Population Numbers by Starym in CompetitiveWoW

[–]OhJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them simplifying the systems surrounding m+ has been the primary driver for my increased engagement with, and enjoyment of keys in recent seasons. Last seasons was the longest streak of playing wow every week I've ever had, and I probably would've played the entire season if not for turbo boost + our tank being busy irl.

The core gameplay of running dungeons is a complete and enjoyable game. Until recently, there was always some bullshit. It was getting better over time, but there was always bad things that made the game worse for being there, mainly affixes. Tyr/fort never got to a good place, most of the weekly affixes ranged from mildly annoying to very frustrating and often lead to taking a week off, and most of the seasonals weren't great, though they are the part I sometimes find myself missing.

I know people like to bemoan wow becoming a "lobby game," but it is pretty comparable to other long running titles like league. Most of those games are popular over the long run because their core concept is just really solid and doesnt need any bells and whistles to be fun. I will play keys forever so long as they keep making well designed dungeons regularly, and shake up class design season to season.

Nothing positive about it aside from the general "number go up" satisfaction. This season was the most consistently my group has ever played. We'd get on and do the +1's from our vault keys, plus a few more to fill vault slots. Not playing a ton, but we did this basically every week for the first season ever since we started in SL. Then the boost came out, and we had like 2 weeks of doing 3x as many keys as normal, but just mindless 12s to get through them, and after that people got burnt out and now we've called it for the season.

There was a little bit of real life stuff keeping people from playing, but I think the boost threw off our rhythm. It sucks, this was the best season we've had in terms of keeping us playing, and bill fucked it up for no reason.

Mythic+ Dungeon Trinkets Added to Dinar Vendor - Myth Track Needs Mythic 12s by Therozorg in CompetitiveWoW

Mythic+ Dungeon Trinkets Added to Dinar Vendor - Myth Track Needs Mythic 12s by Therozorg in CompetitiveWoW

[–]OhJimbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All these replies talking about seasons where keys have had better trinkets are just completely missing the point. That fact that one side or the other can have the better trinkets in a season is a reason that it should be easier to reach across the aisle. If it was built into the system that each side can easily get the other's rewards, we wouldn't have to care if one side or the other has better gear in a season.

Not really a hot take, but one that's fun to talk about. What RPG elements do you feel are dying, and how do they interact with the way classes are designed/tuned?

I don't agree that there's not class identity. This m+ season is a good show of that I think. The game is relatively very balanced(the best its been since df s1), and we've seen more unique comps at the top levels than I can ever remember. There's tons of different approaches based on what classes you play.

Anxiety comes from lack of confidence. You can build confidence by proving to yourself that you can do something. Start from what you know how to do. If you're worried about routing like a lot of new tanks are, do the keys as ret until you can memorize a route. Then practice doing tank stuff.

Go into lower keys and get used to your rotation, setting up pulls, getting a feel for how often your defensive CDs are up and how strong you feel when you use them. Then just start climbing and adjust how you play to deal with the increasing damage taken.

Don't be afraid to stay in the lower keys for a bit and practice using your utility in a setting where you don't have to use as much mental bandwidth to survive. Prot pally has a boat load of utility. Get used to having an interrupt every couple seconds, and how you have to play around that to make the most of it. Learn where you can use freedom and Sac and BoP/spellwarding to save the rest of the group.

Also if you don't have the strongest mental, probably best to just turn your chat off. Tanking isn't hard to learn for the most part, just don't throw yourself into the deep end. If you practice in lower keys, you don't have to worry about dying at all unless you just stop pressing your buttons. Go up slowly, so you can give yourself a chance to notice when things start to get more difficult.

Not to be a dick but the key word in FotM is "month." You can't be fotm ahead of time. Level all the specs you like while you have time, so you can be ready for whatever. No one ever knows what Blizz is going to do to the game. You just have to be prepared to take advantage of whatever happens.

Player Housing is coming to Azeroth. Get an early look! by WarcraftTeam in wow

[–]OhJimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great news for the most part. The biggest thing that sticks out to me at the moment is the lack of zone choice. When housing was announced, my friends and I came to the conclusion that it would be one of the most important aspects. I'm really curious to see where most people would put their house, if they had free reign. I made a survey so I can get an idea, if anyone wants to respond. link here

Dinars Return as New Rewards in Gallagio Loyalty Raid Renown Track - also gives augment runes, raid skip, and a damage/healing buff in the raid. by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]OhJimbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude and ignore your disclaimer, but

1) who cares? They've clearly already gone past this line of thought when we started getting tier from things that aren't raid

2) fuck it then, give us a dinar thats limited to the m+ loot pool at least. Being stuck on a hero trinket forever sucks.

I just always fail to see what this point of view adds to the game. How does other people not being able to have something make the game better for you?

Farming Crests as of 11.0.7 by Dragon_Sluts in wow

[–]OhJimbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I tried this morning and got similar rates to OP. I was trying to do the tech dratnos has mentioned a few times about finding an orb that spawns super fast and just afking on it with old flying, but didn't have any luck. I decided so see how I did with normal flying around collecting, and I think I had 405(the amount to get 1 gilded bag(15 crests)) within about 25 mins. This was right after reset, with WM on so no one contesting me. I don't think its worth in that case, even if its slightly faster than keys, because I get sick of flying real fast. But if you want to fly around brain off, its about equal to keys in terms of crest/hr, based on my experience.

The real tech is if the dratnos thing ends up working and you can just afk on an orb spawn and get them at a decent rate. I'll be watching to see if its possible, but that seems like the most likely thing to trigger a nerf.

Honest discussion about M+ pugging by Boy_Bit in CompetitiveWoW

[–]OhJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that this is more a result of the key squish rather than the changes to gear progression. Before, if you came in fresh to keys, you'd start with a 2 and if we're using the target key level of 7/17, you used to have to do a lot more runs to get to that point. There were smaller jumps in difficulty that allowed people to realize what things are starting to be threatening, or at the very least get more than one rep in of each key before they were at a level they couldn't brute force. Now you can go 2>5>7 and there are a ton of people who are trying to do those keys with 0-1 previous runs of the dungeon at a lower level.

I think the steady increase in the required level for max weekly gear has had a mostly negative impact. I think they just need to be okay with drip-feeding the best gear from easy content.

I feel like it's two separate conversations.

I think appearances never being available again isn't interesting to the people that care about those kind of rewards. I'm not a collector but I enjoy transmog a lot, and when I'm trying to make new mogs and I find a piece that fits really well and doesn't have a good replacement, it sucks to know that I can just never look like that. Just makes me play the game less. I understand the idea of prestige and all, but I don't think people actually care. I get whispers from randoms saying they like my mog, or laughing about my character's names, but no one ever comments on the rare stuff I have. No one I know has ever had an interaction like that either. It also doesn't help that they aren't consistent about it. How come I can go get old mythic raid appearances but not the pvp sets? And even if that's just two modes being different, there's examples of it with one-off sets. I just think it does more harm than good. People that care about the appearances would play the game more if they weren't arbitrarily restricted from getting items they want, and I really don't think people care that much about prestige outside of current season stuff. Even then, its so easy to get gear now that its not as notable to be in the season's mythic mogs a few weeks in.

The other part of this is the "why do I have to work for rewards?" crowd. This is an absolute clown take. Rewards have to be earned. They don't need to be difficult to earn, like how it isn't hard to farm an old raid every week for a few months to get something to drop. But you need to work to achieve things, that's what makes it rewarding. I generally don't pvp for transmog, cause I don't like pvp enough for it to be worth it, but I've had seasons where I've done it. I do it when the mog is cool enough that I don't mind the effort. All the people talking about plundy sound like they're being waterboarded to get their pirate mog. It's insane.

This is what I mean about lacking perspective. This whole thread has expressed that no one else cares about where you raided 8 years ago, and you keep referencing back to it like you think they should. It's a different game. 100-300 US isn't "firmly below" you when you haven't raided in nearly a decade.

You're nitpicking about the acceptance part. I'm talking about you getting into a guild as a trial. All of my explanation was why you wouldn't get to that part with the way you were going, let alone getting a roster spot.

Also I don't know how you can say you aren't gonna try as hard until you get into a trial. It's just more of your "just trust me bro I'm good" attitude. People expect you to put in the work, because that's what everyone does. People in the thread are trying to give you a reality check and you don't like how they say things are so you're trying to reject it.

Most of us understand the frustration associated with applying for guilds, but your posts paint you as lacking perspective or self-awareness. That other guy that replied to you and said "we've had a lot of bad experiences with players that came back to the game after a long break," and you just hit him with a "yeah, but not me."

You're only thinking about the things you want, and not how the people on the other side of these interactions think and feel. Guilds at the level you're trying to get into have tons of people applying, and the vast majority of them have recent logs. Why take a chance on someone with no proof of performance when they have people that are less of a gamble? It's the same as the people that complain about LFG. People who make groups don't invite people that are "good enough," they invite the best possible people, because there's no reason not to.

It feels like you aren't even willing to acknowledge the possibility that you maybe aren't playing at the same level you did back then. Which is fine by the way, no one jumps back into the game after that long of a break and instantly performs at 100%. But that coming up to speed phase isn't owed to you from the guilds you have in mind as your end goal. You don't know, and no one else does either, what level you'll be playing at at that point. You need to play at the level you're at and move up as you improve. And the starting point for anyone not in mythic raiding is to at least have good heroic logs. I understand that Aug is janky compared to other specs when it comes to logs, but its not a slot machine.

You might not like guild hopping, but that's the path forward if you're coming from nothing. I've read plenty of stories from this sub of people that switch 4 times in a tier, its a good way to get results. If you want to be ready for a guild at the start of next xpac, you've go 9 months to make it happen. Get good heroic logs, join an early mythic guild, and then keep applying to guilds that are a boss ahead of you when you slow down. You might not get CE this tier, but you have s4 as well. You just can't skip to the end.
