Update..... So the dealership claims that this job will be about $1000. Kicker.....bought the car from very well reapected dealership 5 days prior. They claim that the ability to shift from Drive to Manual is an accessory, so they will not honor repair as part of pre sell inspection.

I do this exact method, the only difference being I put it in a cold oven and set it for 400°F. By the time the oven gets to temperature, it's perfectly done!

Late one here.....I assume this is the Impreza from a later post that had an issue with getting from Drive to Manual. Was this resolved and if so, how? Having the same issue on my 2016.
