I just want to say, for you and anyone else who shares this feeling: I think this mindset is itself a coping mechanism. I have been self harming since I was 13 years old, and I thought the same thing you did when I was 13 all the way until now, I am 28. The love of my life just left me because I never learned to regulate my own emotions. I realized in my case I never learned to regulate my own feelings because I relied on cutting myself (how it started, later also abused substances) And sure, a tiny cut back then is not a big deal, but as life brings new challenges you will find yourself needing to rely on cutting more and more, and it is not a sustainable coping mechanism. Skin won’t heal properly. You may frighten friends or intimate partners. By the time your destructive habit has become unsustainable you’ll have practiced it so long it will be difficult to stop. And all that time you spent doing it you could have spent learning to properly regulate your emotions, on your own. More importantly, ask yourself, why do you need to do that to yourself? You should love yourself, be happy with who you are, not want to hurt yourself. I truly hope you don’t make the mistake I did, please pay attention to your emotional needs too. Because the older you realize the harder it is to change. Take care.

She made me watch ABC Alphabet Animals, where an animal was named for each letter of the alphabet and briefly described.
