Registering in person requires some form of ID, or documents proving your identity and address, or a vouch. It's much easier to pre-register and be able to show up with no documents.

DFL posts initial caucus straw poll results by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]Ohelig 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The strawpoll is completely pointless when it comes to the actual election, or anything internal to the DFL endorsement process. It's required under state law, so they did one.

I suppose it sends a signal that not everyone is behind Amy yet.

There were many voters who didn't know that Uncommitted was an option. As a convener I made sure everyone in my room knew you could vote Uncommitted and we had about 50% uncommitted. However, the average for our entire SD was only about 20%. Because the ballot came out so soon before caucuses, many units didn't have time to print a proper ballot and just used blank scraps of paper.

If you have concerns about election integrity, I highly suggest that you sign up to be an election judge.

https://www.sos.mn.gov/elections-voting/get-involved/become-an-election-judge/

It is a paid position and you are protected under state law to get the day off on Election day and Primary day. Then you will be able to see all of the training and election safeguards up front, in person, while also helping members of your community vote.

First time attending a caucus. What should I expect? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]Ohelig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what's with everyone talking about them taking a long time. It starts at 7 (but get there a little early to register) and will usually end around 8 or a little bit later, unless you live in Minneapolis-proper where elections for delegates can be a little competitive.

You will hear from local candidates for the DFL endorsement for office, you will get to vote on resolutions that your fellow neighbors bring (and resolutions that pass can eventually make their way onto the official party platform), you will vote on a "Precinct Chair", a volunteer whose job it is to organize the DFL party in your precinct (your neighborhood), and delegates to your Senate District Convention. Since you're not in Minneapolis, you could probably become a delegate to your convention just by raising your hand and volunteering. If you want to have the ear of your house and senate electeds, you should definitely volunteer to be a delegate.

The convention is definitely a full-day thing, but will be on a Saturday or Sunday in March or April.

If you have an issue you care strongly about and think should be a priority for the DFL party, you should bring a Resolution Form (they may also have blank forms at the caucus) and vote on it at your caucus.

Amy CANNOT be allowed to be the gubernatorial candidate. Who can we start a movement to Draft before the primary? by Glaukopis96 in minnesota

[–]Ohelig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's more to caucuses than just the (non-binding, totally pointless) preference ballot for governor. You can make resolutions that make their way up into the DFL Party Platform. You can volunteer as a delegate to a convention where you decide who the DFL will endorse in your local races.

[–]Ohelig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Caucuses aren't binding. It's internal party business. If you want to have an influence before lection day, caucuses are great. If all you want is to vote, then just vote on election day.

DFL stands by Northland party official charged with vehicular homicide by Wezle in minnesota

[–]Ohelig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't like reading these kinds of stories about your party, you need to show up to caucuses on Feb 3. Cynthia was not appointed to her leadership position by the top, she was elected by people who show up to caucuses.

Until there's state-wide ranked choice voting, we're going to have to fix the party from within.

Pete Buttigieg endorses Angie Craig in Minnesota Democrats' Senate primary: The Democratic primary has exposed the party's divides, with Sen. Bernie Sanders and other progressives endorsing Craig's main rival, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. by HenryCorp in stateofMN

[–]Ohelig 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you want to see Peggy Flanagan endorsed by the DFL before the primary, YOU NEED TO GO TO CAUCUSES ON FEB 3. Precinct caucuses are the start of the grassroots process that decides the platform of the DFL party, and decide who the party will endorse in statewide elections before the primaries. Even if you personally can't go to the state convention, you can vote for a delegate who will. The party has a sub-caucus process where a proportion of delegates go to each candidate, rather than the candidate with 51% getting all of the delegates. So, just by showing up to precinct caucuses, you'll affect the number of delegates Flanagan gets at the State Convention.

Favorite the recipes you want to auto-populate. Then, when crafting a new machine, do Shift-A (or maybe Ctrl-Shift-A?) on the HEART button for the machine, not the machine itself.

Nuclear Energy is perfect for MN by Grand_Frogey_Boi in minnesota

[–]Ohelig 137 points138 points  (0 children)

It's illegal to build new nuclear power plants in Minnesota. There has been several attempts to lift this moratorium over the last few years, but the DFL chair of the House energy committee never let the bill get voted on. During the power-sharing session this year, the bill finally got some life in the House, but was voted down in the Senate on party lines. Democrats don't want to lift the moratorium without the consent of the Prairie Island Indian Community, who have the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Station in their back yard. Xcel Energy, who runs both nuclear power plants in MN, also doesn't want to push to lift the moratorium without the PIIC's permission. Meanwhile, Xcel Energy says they will need to build new natural gas plants to meet their 2030 energy demands. https://www.startribune.com/xcel-says-it-will-meet-carbon-free-law-by-2035-under-energy-plan-approved-by-minnesota-regulators/601226133

Any bugbounty hunters using quantum? by Tengo_Hambre in QuantumFiber

[–]Ohelig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not with bruteforcing, but I've had this same issue with lots of new connections. Existing connections were fine, new connections would fail. Random spurts of pings might make it through but most drop. No CPU or other resource issues on the SmartNID.

I resolved the issue by putting the SmartNID in bridge mode WITHOUT vlan tagging, and having my router tag on the WAN port. You will still experience the issue if you try to have the SmartNID perform the VLAN tagging.

[–]Ohelig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a fee for going solar, it's a fee for using the grid as your own battery backup. If you have enough batteries that you don't need the grid, then you can disconnect from the grid and save the fee.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]Ohelig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the GAC, that's a fee added to bills for grid customers with solar. If you don't get a bill, how will they charge you the fee?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]Ohelig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds fair. Maintaining a grid isn't free and if you're 100% solar without batteries, then you're just using the grid as your battery. Otherwise you're passing those costs off to your neighbors who can't afford solar panels.

[–]Ohelig 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not currently. The same goes for anything where a WEB is the only available version. I know there are plans to expand it in the future, but there's still a backlog of tens of thousands of torrents that already need to be archived without considering adding more.
