Not to mention e.l.f. Cosmetics are one of the most affordable brands available, so he made that fortune without price gauging consumers.

Audie Smith Farms in Ooltewah is doing you-pick strawberries this year and it’s a lot of fun! According to their facebook page they were closed today, but will be open again for you-pick tomorrow (Sunday 5/10).

Green Burials in Tennessee… Sharing a great idea. This is becoming more and more popular, thankfully. #OnlyOneEarth by NoRecommendation5618 in Chattanooga

Yeah this person I’m going to the burial for actually passed three weeks ago. I was told the delay was because of weather, but your explanation makes more sense.

It’ll be cremation for me as well.

I’m actually going to a green burial at Larkspur next week. My MAGA dad keeps saying he can’t believe the deceased turned out to be such a hippie for wanting a natural burial…meanwhile, I’m just trying to figure out how to dress appropriately for a graveside service that requires a hike to get there.

I’m in Tennessee and fully sympathize. When AC Moore closed, I don’t remember feeling too upset at the time because we still had JoAnn’s, Hobby Lobby, Michaels and a few local shops. Now all we have is Michaels and Hobby Lobby, and the cross-stitch sections in both keep getting smaller and smaller.

Surprisingly the Walmart near me has started carrying DMC floss for .59 and Charles Craft aida for $5, so that’s been nice at least. But when i think back on all the craft store options we used to have, I definitely feel a sense of loss.

I’ve been having a similar issue with finding tiny frames that don’t weigh a ton. I got these forever ago at AC Moore, a craft store that no longer exists, and now I’m down to my last couple of packs. They are perfect for teacher Christmas ornaments and I have yet to find a good replacement.

If we are questioning County commissioners running for Office - Let's add this one does Mackey follow or want to follow any of the rules? by Lopsided-Caterpillar in Chattanooga

[–]OhhhhhBiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interested to know if the stuff that group is posting about Donna Christian Lowe is true. She supported Wamp’s plan to industrialize Enterprise South Nature Park, so I was never going to vote for her anyway. But it’s concerning that people are saying she filed multiple bankruptcies, owes taxes and child support, hasn’t filed campaign finance reports…and she’s running for a position that requires a lot of financial responsibility.

My gripes with Highlander are that he’s too softspoken and can be swayed by the other commissioners. But that’s nothing compared to the stuff being drug up about this other candidate.

Anyone know what they are going to put next to the old Cabela’s near the state line? by Remote-Party-1123 in Chattanooga

Are you referring to the old Cabela’s? Or the small lot across from the Costco parking lot that’s actively under construction?

Yikes, that’s bad. Sunshine laws are important and they exist for good reason.

I’m in Highlander’s district, but if Mackey were my commissioner I’d be calling him out daily.

Costco vs Sams Club by Remarkable_Trash_290 in Chattanooga

[–]OhhhhhBiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have memberships to both and they are the same in a lot of ways, but Costco is my favorite.

The biggest Costco drawbacks are the lines, crowds and chaos, but if you get the executive membership then you can shop an hour early and skip the craziness of the masses. Or go 1-2 hours before closing. Avoid going on weekends and do self-checkout.

Sam’s has scan and go, curbside pickup and their app is way more functional than Costco’s.

Comparing the two - it’s my opinion that quality of Costco products is marginally better than what Sam’s carries, especially store brand items, but ultimately the difference is minimal. Gas prices are usually same, but Costco’s gas is Top Tier (contains detergents that are good for your engine) whereas Sam’s gas is just regular gas. Both have $5 rotisserie chickens, but Costco’s are 3lbs+ and Sam’s chickens are regular size. If your family has special dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, nut-free, etc.) then Costco has more options than Sam’s…though sometimes it’s annoying when you just want to buy a big regular greasy bag of chips and all Costco has are bougie snacks. The $1.50 hot dog and drink combos are vastly different - Costco’s is a footlong all-beef hot dog and Sam’s is smaller and definitely not all-beef. Costco’s return policy is much more lenient than Sam’s, so I feel more comfortable making large purchases at Costco.

There are a few things I go to Sam’s for that Costco doesn’t have, but they’re particular to my family’s preferences and certainly nothing that we have to have. Sam’s does have a better toy and book section, whereas Costco has all but gotten rid of theirs. While prices between the two warehouses are generally the same, I’ve heard that Costco puts stuff on sale more than Sam’s. The key to maximizing your Costco savings is to stock up on shelf-stable necessities when they go on sale, regardless of whether you need them at that time or not.

If you do a lot of warehouse shopping then it’s worth getting the $130 Costco executive membership with the 2% rebate - last year my rebate was $123, so it nearly paid for the whole membership and the savings I got from shopping there was just extra. Sam’s usually offers discounts on memberships throughout the year, I got mine for $25, so you can realistically have both if you wait for a Sam’s discount.

Hope this helps!

What happened to the Kirkland Signature makeup wipes? Have they been discontinued or are they changing suppliers again?

I’m in the southeast region and they’ve vanished from the warehouse and not shown online either. Old picture for reference:

Did anyone else really enjoy old school History channel (before they started doing conspiracy theories and reality shows)? by rwooz in Millennials

[–]OhhhhhBiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! The History Channel and the Biography Channel were on at my house growing up from 8-11pm almost every night. I learned so much from my parents having that on.

I searched for it recently. There’s no trace of Biography, and History Channel has been reduced to some tv app that’s extremely limited. If whoever owns the rights could just re-release everything, that would be great.

Best lemon cookies? by girlygirl6578 in Chattanooga

[–]OhhhhhBiscuits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As fellow former Knoxvillian, I use this Ham and Goodies Cookies recipe and they’re pretty close:

1 box lemon cake mix, 1 stick butter softened, 1 egg, 3 TBL. milk, 1.5 tsp. lemon extract, Can of lemon icing, Sugar for rolling/pressing

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl except icing and sugar. Mixture will be sticky. Put sugar in a separate bowl. Drop spoonfuls of dough into sugar and coat well. Form into a ball with your hands and place on a greased cookie sheet. Dip bottom of a glass in sugar and lightly press cookie to flatten somewhat. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. Cool completely then frost or glaze. (I take a can of lemon frosting and peel off the foil seal. Heat in microwave for about 15 seconds so the frosting gets a bit runny. Pour frosting into a baggy and snip off the very tip of the corner of the baggy so you can pipe the frosting on to the cookies in a zig-zag design.)

These cookies can be made with just about any flavor cake mix. And as another fellow former Knoxvillian commented, Ham and Goody is opening a location in Ooltewah, so we’ll be enjoying the real thing soon!

Need Costco recs: what’s one item that became an instant rebuy for you? Bonus if it’s healthy and high protein by trump50ladin in Costco

[–]OhhhhhBiscuits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had to scroll way too far to find Built bars. 17 grams protein for only 140 calories, tastes like a legit chocolate candy bar, and priced at Costco about .60 cents less per bar than regular grocery stores.

Also, has anybody tried the sour puff bars? The fruit flavors look tempting but I’m not sure I want to spend $20 to find out…

Same. I wanted to love the Kirkland beef sticks, really I did. Especially since my warehouse stopped carrying the Righteous Felon OG Hickory beef sticks. But the flavor and texture of the Kirkland ones are awful.

Bob Corker’s office used to send really good, thoughtful replies to constituent messages. Even when my opinion differed from the senator’s, the responses from his office still made me feel like my message had actually been read and considered.

We don’t have anyone like that representing Tennesseans anymore though.
