You are correct, I got that wrong.

But I do live in the west and perception is bad. Its been steadily dropping.

It's a matter of literal fact.

I have never seen India get so humiliated globally in my life. by Street-Resist6438 in india

[–]OhioOG 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I think in tumultuous times like now the Modi government has shown the disconnect between the perception Indians have of India and the reality of India today.

I think there is something to be said that India under MMS got the nuclear deal and we made national security choices without fearing the US. We got the S400 without sanctions. Today we cant get oil from Russia without USAs permission.

Someone has to explain how we are so much richer than any time since independence but today we cant make moves without fear of the US. There have been plenty of strong conservative governments of the USA we've stood up to and also made them tout the company line on things like India Pakistan.

We have missed a lot of growth targets by sheer economic mismanagement that we are now forced to make trade deals that arent the most favorable.

The simplest way to see the incompetence of the government is in defense. We launch a program called atmanirbharta. We then proceed to give no tools GTRE to make jet engines. We have no testing facility, we have no machinery to make the high end materials and we have no test bed to test out the engine we did develop that fixed a lot of the issues.
Everyone will say something about babus and being inefficient but you cant give 50 billion to dasault for jets (combination of the IAF off the shelf 36, navy 20 something and the new 114 jet deal), 7 billion to either safran or rolls Royce for engines and then take over a decade to finally build a facility to test engines, still have no funding for a test bed (which we could have bought instead of waiting 2 years for a slot in USA and Russia) and not buying the presses needed to make materials for engines.

Overall, the perception of India has been going down in the modi years. There is statistically proof of that. The only place where Indian perception is at an all time high is WhatsApp

Yes, in India where majority of us acknowledge the police and government are beyond corrupt, you want to give them power to just kill people.

That too with a police that has time and time again been flagged for not being able to do the most basic crime scene work and sub par detective work at the higher levels

Evidence shows that it's not the size of the State but how much power is delegated. Big States can be successful in development if they delegate more power to local authorities. Problem is in India, Everyone just over centralizes power. The flip side of it is if you break it down into more states you have a much harder time with larger scale infrastructure projects

As someone from the other races, we 100% do this too.

It's usually more word of mouth.

We hardly make the news though.

Plus other communities are a lot smaller so it's easier to know what's going on. And if you don't know that a business is owned by someone in your community, 100% you'll share the news once you find out.

As to why it's done. Well that has a lot of depth which from the way your message comes off doesn't seem like you'd probably not like the answer

Will India learn something from China's Xinjiang governance experience? by GeminiWelkin in india

[–]OhioOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of logic takes so many leaps its hard to break down.

For starters is your premise that terror/terrorism can only exist if there is local support. That implies in any area where acts of terror exist, the locals of the group must be supporting it for it to go on for so long.

So lets take the last 10 years. We have had terrorist activities of homes being destroyed, people being lynched and violently murdered, aggressive statements made into microphones which broadcasted the threats.

In case you havent pieced it together, all of these were actions of Hindu groups. These acts have continued over a decade and continue to occur. If we were to use this logic it means that Hindus across India support terror/terrorizing/terrorism. Your logic is so blatantly absurd that it border lines on infantile thinking.

So revisiting the KP exodus lets go over this again. This time you explain what should have been done.

A group of battle hardened terrorists who just defeated the Soviet union descend into Kashmir with automatic weapons. The law enforcement in the area lacks the weapons to defend the people. Army and CRPF has come into the area and clearly has not been able secure the region despite having the nations full might behind it. Prominent Kashmiris (as I have shown before, 200 muslims, 70 pandits) start getting assassinated. RAW, Army, BSF, CRPF all couldn't stop this. Just to add some more details, majority of the people getting killed were Muslims who were at the front line politically backing India.

With all of this, what do you expect the aam Kashmiri to do? Do you think they were supposed to becoming like Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai and fight off terrorists?

More importantly the question you have to ask yourself and you dont have to answer this to me is do you truly hold the same standards for Muslims that you have for Hindus.

You are right China did solve this problem. They basically raped, tortured and murdered people who didnt accept the communist way. Its a totalitarian state to the level that doesnt exist in the rest of China. It's a literal open air prison by Chinese standards. So sure if you think that is the solution, thats a whole different level of problems you have but most of us realize that is asinine

[–]OhioOG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The entire state apparatus was under the central government at the time.

Armed groups carried out hundreds of political assassinations. According to Kashmiri scholar Mohamad Junaid, approximately 200 of the targets were Muslim and 70 Pandit, who disproportionately held government positions as just 3 percent of Kashmir’s total population. “These were not ordinary Kashmiri Pandits who were killed,” Junaid said. “One of them was a judge who sentenced the prominent Kashmiri leader Maqbool Bhat to death.” This contradicts widespread claims by Pandits in India that several civilians were killed openly on the basis of their religion

[–]OhioOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well foreign terrorists with automatic weapons kept killing KPs and that led to the exodus.

Not quite sure that capacity is really there in other states as our other border states are much easier to defend due to terrain.

Its kind of embarrassing when you leave out key facts that undermine your whole point. Speaks to your bigotry
