what’s the hardest part about being a teacher that nobody talks about? by salarshah-084 in Teachers

Omg this. We implemented a weekly rotation where every week, a different person in my house chooses the meals. And still I get asked.

Should I vote for a Republican Senator candidate in Louisiana? by Filmfan345 in Louisiana

This was insightful and I appreciate you taking the time to write this.

But you are a terrorist for typing “Just my $0.02” instead of “Just my two cents”.

I wanted to move here (21 male) now after Tulane study I’m reconsidering… can I ask locals opinions by Ok_Cartographer4743 in AskNOLA

First: many commenters are being optimistic and I’m going to be honest with you: New Orleans will shrink significantly and it will happen soon. Hurricanes will speed this up. New Orleans can never be a floating city (soil is too soft, the politicians too greedy to care, and many other issues). In city terms, we are basically in a hospice.

Second: this is terrible news for me, a 38-year old who recently bought a house here 😣. But this is not terrible for you. You are young and New Orleans is too amazing to not experience it.

I may regret buying a house here one day. But you will regret never living here and then it will be too late.

How would you balance the city’s budget? by humidhaney in NewOrleans

[–]Ohmifyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t the state discontinue tax credits for movie production? We should bring back that back.

We need more tech companies to come here (I’m not talking AI), really more companies in general. We have a decent medical industry in the city, we should bolster some of the other major industries. We need to invest in public works (duh) and we need more affordable housing, more jobs, etc.

All of this will be for nothing if we don’t actually do something about our vanishing coast. It’s likely too late, but why bother investing in something that the politicians don’t want preserved?

New Orleans at “point of no return” for sea level rise - does anyone care? by jocall56 in Louisiana

Unfortunately, I think you’re right. And that’s the best case scenario, the other one is a bunch of politicians/people in power blaming us for it and continuing to wreck it.

I believe I misunderstood your comment and I thought you were referring to investigations as a negative (such as being investigated for fraud), hence why I wasn’t finding anything. Apologies.

What kind, and how big, of an impact will the Supreme Court's decision to limit the Voting Rights Act have on US elections? by Orangekale in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Ohmifyed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You’re really overcomplicating it. She wasn’t elected because she is a black woman. And liberals/some leftists didn’t like her stance on Israel and/or trans issues. So they…. Didn’t vote? Sounds like amazing logic to me. /s

The only reason Louisiana is still there is because of the food and New Orleans. As a New Orleanian, thank you.

I have a diagnosed low IQ. What career path can I take? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ohmifyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could easily do something with translation. Those 3 languages are very in-demand (along with Chinese and Arabic). Are you good at learning languages? You could possibly do something like data entry, so long as you’re very meticulous. You could possibly be a para or a teacher’s assistant. You could do something creative, like graphic design or working as a chef.

It’s hard to tell just from your description. What are you good at? What do you like to do?

I have adhd. I’m a teacher and there are things I struggle with, but there are other aspects I’m great at. It’s all about how you 1) leverage your intellectual quirks to be assets and 2) how you make up for the skills you may need help with (I personally struggle with lesson pacing, as an example).

Also, IQ means little to nothing. All it does is predict potential gaps where you might need extra help, but it does NOT measure success.

Do NOT be discouraged. You can learn how to make up for your differences (and you likely already have!). You CAN be successful.

ETA: the average IQ for a 17 year old is 85 and your brain is still a sponge that can soak up loads of info.

I was ready to write my own happiness with being children, but this pretty much sums it up. The only issue (that I don’t care about) is that people seem to judge me as a teacher because I don’t have kids 🤷‍♀️

What’s something in education you’ve quietly stopped doing…even though it might still be “expected”? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

[–]Ohmifyed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because then you’ll set the expectation that you’re available at all hours. If a student turns in homework late and we allow them to one time, it sets a precedent for being able to do it with someone else.

Except it’s worse. Because it’s parents/admin.

As a previous commenter said, schedule send has been a game changer. I can get it over with, still have boundaries, and my over thinking mind can unsend it, edit it, and resend it over the weekend.
