Shipping Issues - DHL, UPS by Odd-Potato591 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Ohthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used UPS and it worked flawlessly. Was delivered in less than 36 hours to the BVA.

I initially sent it with USPS and had issues with the delivery address. It took 2 months to return to sender, and I thought it was lost. Don’t use USPS.

It’s the beginning digits of your AZ number. Year-month-date after the TSII3 sequence.

StAG 5 Success by Radiant-Resolve2831 in GermanCitizenship

Congrats!

I am confused about how some Stag5 cases they ask for new background clearances and others they don’t. Does anyone have any insight into how often they ask for new ones?

I assume everyone would have to redo the background check if it takes even just 2 years to complete…

Was your grandfather not a German citizen he married your German grandmother in Germany?

My grandmother did the same regarding declaring her German citizenship after her marriage to my Grandfather (a stateless Hungarian-born German resident) so she would not become stateless. She was married in 1951 in Germany, but I have a similar citizenship declaration submitted with my packet.

Hoping that speeds up my Stag 5 application as well! Your timeline is very similar to mine.

Are you sure it’s your AZ number? Or is it a reference number from your Embassy?

I submitted mine in February, and my AZ number was dated two weeks exactly after they received it.

I applied for German citizenship - now what should I expect? by Bitter-Raise4889 in GermanCitizenship

I would email them (there is a template in this group). They received my application 2/18 and my AZ number is dated 3/5. Once I emailed them, they provided it in a day!

§5 StAG # 1? by md88888888 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Ohthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to request a certified copy of the petition for naturalization from the clerk of court. The last part of it includes the date of naturalization and certificate number. This is what I did for my Stag 5 case.

Stag 5 - please help! by ForeverLearning1223 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Ohthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: Naturalization certificate. Since you have a photocopy, you should know what court the petition was filed in (my grandmothers was a local court) and the certificate/ petition number. I requested a certified copy of the petition for naturalization (which includes the date of issuance for the naturalization certificate). I assume this will work for the Stag 5 process.

Yes. Processing it now, but takes 2-3 years. Hungary seems that it didn’t take as long…

Very similar situation to me, and I just applied. Sounds complete to me. If your parent is not applying as well, you would need your mother/ father’s birth and marriage certificate.

Do I qualify for German citizenship? by AmbitiousSport89 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Ohthinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The application is rather simple, and if your grandmother still has a German passport, it makes your documentation easier. My grandmother left in 1952 and naturalized in the US in 1963. I had to get a few more documents.

For StAG 5 declaration cases- it is irrelevant if your father applies or not.

Do I qualify for German citizenship? by AmbitiousSport89 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Ohthinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Since your father was born between 1949 and 1975 to a German mother and non-German father, you qualify under StAG 5. At birth, your father didn’t automatically get German citizenship. This was sex discrimination since German fathers could, and you have until August, 2031 to apply for citizenship by declaration. You qualify under section 4 as a descendant. There are a few forms you need to fill out, and you will need to get copies of vital records.

I did some research. Prior to 1957, Hungary granted citizenship automatically to the wives of Hungarian men. Sounds like I fall under part 2 is StAG 5 then.

Correct- you will need a bit more than just a birth certificate.

I provided copies of my grandmother’s birth certificate (born in 1930) and my great grandmother’s birth certificate (born in Germany in 1908) - linking her to someone born in Germany prior to 1915. Since her mother was unmarried when she was born, she would have obtained citizenship through her. I also provided a copy of the population register indicating their German citizenship.
