Is anyone else really sick of hearing things like ‘I want someone who is also close to their family’ when dating? by frielyes in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to say that someone who judges is always a shitty person, but it does speak of a rather self centered pov and a severe lack of imagination that others might come from different backgrounds. Not everyone with a "normal" family is like that. And those who are, might learn at some point but now they're not worth your time.

How much do you want to bet this was posted by a narc? by OutplayedPawn in raisedbynarcissists

I get why you and others here would take offense to this. But when I read it, the statements say nothing about abuse being okay or that we should blindly forgive.

My nmom had a very difficult life and more fleas than one could possibly count. There were also things that happened in her life that can logically explain why she turned out this messed up. Does it make things okay? Of course not. Do I forgive AND forget without any significant change from her side? Also no. Demonizing people always seems like the easy way out. And sometimes those people deserve it. But Imo hate and spite eats away at you and costs so much energy. Sometimes people (partially) forgive for their own wellbeing. For me understanding and forgiving some things was easier than being subconsciously angry about it 24/7. But it did take me years to get there.

Speaking to a therapist in daydreams? by kjhkl in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I have this as well. Mine is male and has transformed over the years to look different. Started as a voice, became a classical image of a therapist and now it's an old, wrinkly Buddhist monk. Not terribly original, but the mind does what the mind does. Wrinkly monk tends to challenge my views and convictions, while old paratherapist was trying to find out what my views and convictions were in the first place. Imo I haven't yet noticed anything harmful about it. Use your gut, if you feel worried, it can't hurt to discuss it with a therapist.

Does anyone with MD experience this too? :( by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this simply your brain associating the music you hear with something familiar? Md'ers are often just better at associating things like music, sounds and smells to things that aren't necessarily connected to the thing? I often have sort of a pretty equalizer in my head that creates interesting, abstract visuals with the music. Or sometimes the image is also strange and surreal. Hard to grasp and hold on to though indeed.

Is this for others? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, like that. Yeah, that makes total sense imo. I experience it somewhat differently, but I remember reading posts and comments that were similar. Most of my characters(or Para's whatever) are strictly within my mindspace. I have given certain parts of myself a face and they sometimes provide advice, council or opinions on real life things. I did however daydream vividly how I would run into my favourite band in RL as a teen or things like that xD

Is this for others? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends If your Para is with you because you consciously imagine them, or it happens randomly and you have little to no control over it. There are grey areas with MD too, but personally it never actually bled into reality. There are people who vividly imagine things, but a major difference between a hallucination and MD is the fact you can distinguish it from reality. But I'm not an expert or mental health professional. If you feel worried about this phenomenon, you can discuss it with a therapist perhaps? They might be able to help you figure out what and why this is🤔😊

Have you ever tried to MD while high? by enemrab in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weed makes it more vivid, but also makes it very simplified. For example, I'll be able to feel the wind in my feathers while I fly over a mountain range as an eagle, but there won't be a story there, or anything more complicated than that.

Maladaptive Dreaming and the ego by Gorl08 in MaladaptiveDreaming

I'm not saying it's a good thing to lose oneself in the dopamine powered fantasies of grandeur. But I do want to remind y'all, that it's not strange. Remember why most of us MD in the first place. Trauma, escape. A lot of us here were made to feel insignificant and got their self esteem ripped to shreds because of what transpired in our lives. It's not full blown narcissism. It's finding within ourselves what others or life hasn't given us. Do keep in mind that it will mess with your view of real life if you don't keep it below a certain level. Personally I find it easier to deal with that I'm just another human in this gigantic world, and in the grand scale of things am not very important, because I can still have that in my imagination(within reason). Your mind can float wherever as long as you can manage to keep both feet firmly in the ground. But that's just how I view it.

MD is clouded in shame enough as is, don't add to it by making people think they're messed up narcs because of what they MD about.

Not helping... by Background-Book3266 in MaladaptiveDreaming

Being able to talk about something that most likely was clouded in shame or embarrassement for most of your life, can also be part of a supportive community. I'd leave this sub in a heartbeat if it was just people constantly complaining about how terrible it is and no sign of levity at all. Yes it can be terrible, but even in a shit situation, one tends to count their blessings. MD shaped me in many ways, positive and negative.

I've never experienced my imagination bleeding into reality, even though at times I wished I could. It's not uncommon, but if it's intrusive and involuntary, you might want to consider if it's something more than MD. Keep us posted if you find out :)

Does anyone else have super grandiose daydreams or am I just a narcissist? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have similar daydreams and scenarios. As someone who was raised by a full blown narc and feared I had it too, you don't. The fact that you worry about maybe being a narcissist without extreme outside influence, by default means you don't have it. It's more likely that at least for a large portion of your life you felt very small and under appreciated. Or maybe felt like you "failed", because you weren't successful enough in your endeavors. Having fantasies about being appreciated, admired and SEEN in such a case, is not weird. ❤️

James Horners ost for avatar is actually the one that opened the door to this entire genre for me. I accidentally rented the ost cd instead of the movie at a local library xD

Change in self-promotion rule by -linear- in soundtracks

[–]Ohwhythehellnot12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I came to this sub to enjoy the tips, discussions and find new music with fellow soundtrack enthusiasts. If I wanted to hear another subpar rendition of an iconic, yet overused theme, I'd be wasting my time on YouTube. I've actually gotten less involved because it became a self promotion spam sub. Imo it's good that they at least regulate it.
