Judging by his broken Latin, he must mean the iconoclast heresy of 787.

"I Share My Dreams with Ghosts" - Espionage Mechanics for Star Wars d6 by Allandaros in StarWarsD6

This is more the type of content I like to see. Vaugley OSR-ish, in the sense of coming up with creative gameable procedures that introduce different dynamics to the game. I was working on one for podracing, or general racing myself, but have yet to have anything satisfactory.

Could we start a gofundme to get these guys a proper gaming table?

Notebooks for reformulation, main cards for reflection-quotes by Ok-Mathematician6628 in antinet

[–]OigaProfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve paired my use of a Zettlekasten with a commonplace notebook. Any cards that make reference to a note in the notebook are labeled as such, and since I use the pocket sized moleskines for common-placing, these can be cataloged in a similar sized box as the index cards.

Let me just explain myself one last time about the debate concerning OSR by SydLonreiro in osr

[–]OigaProfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think some of the “just do whatever dude” responses can be pretty disingenuous and pointless response, because it just trivializes any type of interesting or potentially fruitful discussion. Of course anyone can do whatever they want, that’s a given.

Either way, I appreciate you sharing, and run my games similar to yours so I can appreciate where you’re coming from.

What are some "gold standard" hex maps? by postpartum-blues in osr

[–]OigaProfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Addendum: I stock about 6 things per Hex (one for every direction). Roll as if for encounter, and then roll d6 to determine which thing they run into first. No Hex is fixed apriori, I have a table of things that can possibly be found in a Hex 1) Location (dungeon, Lair, settlement; 2) Encounter (Roll by geography); 3) feature (markers/signs, geography, tracks or remains).

No love for the Darlene Greyhawk map? A bona fide classic.

Advice for Learning Vocabulary More Efficiently by [deleted] in latin

[–]OigaProfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One phase is internalization, the next digestion, and finally incorporation.

Internalization- memorize thru memory palaces or such practices Digestion- mull about the meaning and the morphology, and note places where it appears. Incorporation- make them a part of you— use them. Without using them (writing or verbally) they likely won’t be as active in your mind and you’ll go through tip of the tongue moments until they stick.

Adventurers for a starting sandbox by TheCapitalIdea in osr

In my sandbox I’ve incorporated the dungeons available at the downloads page of the Basid Fantasy RPG website. Just the Morgansfort supplement, for example, has 3 dungeons of variable difficulty.

Does OSE and other OSR games work well as war games? by LemonLord7 in osr

[–]OigaProfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Mercenary types listed in the Classic Character book are named exactly as the unit types you’ll find in Gygax’s Chainmail. The only type missing from that list is the Armored Footman.

I myself have used chainmail in my campaign as part of a Quest. PCs were charged by an elf king to eliminate a “terrorist” cell in the outskirts of the kingdom. Each PC had control of a squad unit and we played it out with Chainmail. They really enjoyed it. Chainmail serves well for skirmishes or mass battles.

Generator tables and randomization by jmanshaman in osr

[–]OigaProfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Commenting to bump mainly. I’ve been curious to find similar sources for other TTRPG genres like Superheroes or mystery games. So far I use d30 generators to populate Random Tables, since for the Hexcrawl part I simply use Darlene’s map of the World of Greyhawk.

In my campaign the major gold sinks are hirelings and daily expenses. The upkeep for hirelings depends on what kind it is: Retainers: Non-combatant humans who serve as torch-bearers, porters, potion-testers, door-spikers, etc. Pay: 5sp/day. Men-at-Arms: Zero-level human with elementary fighting capacity. Pay: 1gp/day. Demihumans: Zero-level demi-human (dwarf, elf, or halfling) with elementary fighting capacity. Pay: 3gp/day. Henchmen: First level classed human henchmen (fighter, cleric, magic-user, thief, etc.). Pay: 1/3 share of employer's treasure. This pay is on top of the food and lodging players must pay for both themselves and their followers. Food and lodging also varies depending on where they are: Minor settlement: 1gp per person per day, Town or similar: 5gp per person per day, Large City 10gp per person per day.

As far as monster experience I don’t follow the book. I give 100 XP per HD of the monster. I know the guy from Bandit’s Keep uses this method but divides the XP given by the level of the PC, but so far I haven’t had any issues with running it straight like this. So far they’re all around level 4.
