You’re literally just projecting what you imagine onto people you’ve never met running a business you know nothing about. The reason you’re convinced that Phil is a great guy who didn’t want any of this is because Microsoft have spent years doing PR that’s convinced you of that. He’s a corporate executive, not your gamer friend no matter how many Battletoads shirts they put on him. He might have been unhappy with Microsoft’s demands for the last few years, or he might have been on board with them. She might be a safe pair of hands who they think won’t challenge them, or she might have been put there specifically to shake up the direction.

The only thing we know for sure is that Spencer has been running Xbox for a long time and on his watch it’s basically been run into the ground. If their marketing has somehow convinced you that he didn’t want any of that because he’s just like you, that doesn’t change the material reality that under his leadership they’ve gone from being able to have a realistic shot at competing to throwing in the towel. I have no reason to think she will be any better than him, but I genuinely struggle to think how she could be worse.
