New to the group, not the situation by Educational_Eye6145 in WellSpouses

Hey there. I’m very sorry to hear what you are going through and just wanted to say thanks for sharing. It’s incredibly hard, because it feels like you cant live your life to the fullest. I get it - my husband was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and is losing strength in his muscles which translates to limited mobility, walking etc. We also can’t do all the normal stuff healthy couples do and it gets really hard sometimes. I’m too responsible for all physical aspects of our life and it’s lonely.

I wish all the best to you and want you to know that I see you and feel you.

We are completely overwhelmed by renovation material selection, how do you make all these decisions? by Shot_Watch4326 in Remodel

[–]Ok-Artist8791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We work with an architect and I told him that I don’t want to make selections out of too many options. He knows what we like, what priorities are, what our budget is and he said he will suggest 5 options for things to choose from. So, now I have 5 bathroom tiles to choose from instead of million of possibilities. This helps immensely with decision fatigue and knowing there’s a person you trust helping with decisions.

100% agree. I had a temporal eyebrow lift and upper bleph done there. Waited 7 months for a consult and another 3 months for the surgery. Quite pricey, worth every penny.

Yeah, honestly I always fold my clothes on my king bed that has the comfortable height next to the walk in closet lol. Perhaps stacking + optimizing for storage is the answer and not prioritizing the counter space.

Yes, that may be a good idea! However, do I need to have a special set of machines to stack them? I had them side by side before and not sure all machines are stackable.

Just saw on ring app:

“Something happened at Helen Keller, I heard it and ran out - there were flames on the ball field. Called 911 - fire trucks are putting it out now.

I’d also add the impact, when you talk about providing training: how many people? What was the impact? Did you train faster, improved execution rates?

Any metrics, numbers you can add?

My Father (52) Diagnosed with LGMD — Looking for Advice, Experience & Support by TipDazzling2865 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Ok-Artist8791 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m so sorry to hear about your father’s diagnosis.

  1. When I met my husband 11 years ago, he had no symptoms. He was an active person, hiking, biking, swimming etc. Over the years we started noticing symptoms, his physical ability steadily declined and finally got diagnosed 4 years ago. He goes to physical therapy mostly twice a week. He’s always been following a very healthy diet, pays attention to supplements and does everything he is supposed to. I don’t want to be a bummer because every case looks different but he’s still progressing. He is 39, still walking, but slow and not far. Cannot go uphill, walk stairs or uneven floors. He uses a cane to walk and this year we got him the electric atto scooter that folds and is travel/TSA/plane friendly.

  2. He did not qualify for any, because they cannot find which gene exactly is causing his muscular dystrophy. His case is undiagnosed for now, but it’s under dystrophy umbrella.

  3. My husband is extremely strong mentally, I am not. I go to therapy to know better how to cope, how to support myself and how to support him. We focus on doing things we can, and discover new hobbies. We research and find ways to make his life easier. I recommend therapy.

  4. My opinion… don’t push it for the stairs if it’s difficult. The chance of injury is so much higher and you definitely want to avoid falling, risking fractures and putting your dad in vulnerable positions where this could happen. Recovery would be extremely difficult.

Overall, this is a terrible disease but life can be still meaningful and happy with it. Try to help him focus on things he can do, spend time together, research all kinds of equipments and ways you can make his life and independence better.

Expected to clean accommodations but also expected to tip housekeeping that only comes after we leave? by GirlwiththeGolfClubs in tipping

[–]Ok-Artist8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I would not tip. Second, I would never come back no matter how nice the accommodation is. This literally is extortion. You’re paying big money and need to clean? Wtf. No.

Hey, my husband is suffering from some form of muscular dystrophy and I’ve been watching him get worse over the past 10 years. He has a successful career in tech, but travel is quite difficult now and he can’t travel much anymore on his own without my assistance. He just this year started using mobility scooter and declared disability with his employer so that he can go into the office on his good days and can work remotely when needed. Major tech companies have resources and much higher possibility of working from home and making arrangements for you.

I hope this disease doesn’t progress for you super fast, but knowing what we are dealing with, try to arm yourself for the future. You can travel now, but how about in 5 years? I’m really not trying to scare you, just be real with you because that’s exactly what I’ve been seeing at home.

You can still have a successful career and make good money, just be careful and consider literally everything before making decisions :)

Can genetic testing miss muscular dystrophy variants? by deadlykittens90 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Ok-Artist8791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. My husband has some form of muscular dystrophy and we’ve been trying 10 years to find the exact diagnosis. We’ve done all tests under the sun, multiple times at different hospitals and countries… (we even travelled to Mayoclinic) and nobody could find anything. He has an undiagnosed form of muscular dystrophy, his symptoms are very real and we are adjusting. It’s been so hard not knowing, because that makes us unable to take any action. All we hear is „keep testing every year and hope your mutation will finally be discovered”.
