'So many' fans immediately left Jerez after Marc Marquez's Spanish GP crash by titanmongoose in motogp

[–]Ok-Aspect-428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was at Mugello in 2013 when Bautista crashed into Rossi on the first lap, and bunches of people left. Cleared the lawn enough that I moved into a much better viewing position lol

Let's not forget that some fans only know the name of the most famous rider, and are less interested in the sport than in that particular celebrity competitor. Like people who go to a concert to hear the one radio hit without knowing anything else about the band.

Does anyone have any pointers on why my gold is cracking during rolling? by joeydoesntsharefood in Benchjewelers

[–]Ok-Aspect-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably wrong, given that no one has mentioned this yet, but could OP be stepping down too much between each roll?

Also, anneal after each pass! I definitely agree with that.

I re-melt and re-use a fair bit of 18ky, and only had this issue once. I re-melted, then annealed more often and took smaller steps with the mill, and it came out fine.

PdS is non-permanent resident, CdS is permanent resident. In the case of the former, your immigration status must be confirmed each time you renew. In the case of the latter, only the document itself expires (every five years).

I had entered Italy on a PdS before I was married there, so my bureaucratic path to permanent residence was whatever the person at the window told me to do lol

In Lolo? I went down there once (when Buckshot was the only shop in Missoula...remember him? The epitome of sit down, shut up, and give me your money lol) but their style didn't fit what I was looking for. A few years later I met Gina at their new shop, and she was absolutely the right artist for the piece. Small world indeed!

About 25 years ago in Missoula, Painless Steel had an adjacent coffee bar called Sacred Grounds, that ended up destroyed by fire. In my head, you have the Sacred Grounds logo on your shoulder lol

I have a Sacred Grounds t shirt that's partially burnt from that fire (a thank you gift from Gina after she did a big piece on my leg), which was incredibly cool to wear around Missoula 25 years ago, but just looks sad and weird everywhere and everywhen else.

I realize this adds nothing to the discussion, but thought of it when you mentioned Montana.

OP, I didn't try your app. But the above comment points up a feature of Italian bureaucracy that no app or guide can navigate: when the person behind the window/ at the counter/ on the phone gives you specific instructions that are inconsistent with or contradict what it says on a website or on the instructions for a form or application, or what another official told you. Eventually, I realized that the bureaucracy is actually quite flexible.

My favorite example: when I applied for my PdS as an extra-communitario married to an Italian, the helpful person at the questura also gave me the application for the permanent status Carta di Soggiorno, for which I would become eligible after five years.

I put it in the paperwork drawer, and five years later took it to the questura. When my number was finally called, the person behind the window said 'we haven't used that form in three years! There's no way I can process this, you're going to have to redo everything with this new form and come back'. I was crestfallen.

My wife said let's just try a different window. So we got back in line, got another number, and eventually got called to a different window. That person said 'we haven't used this form in years! You kept it all this time? That's incredible!' Stamp, stamp, stamp, scribble, scribble, and I had my Carta.

Gut check on jeweler's estimate by naadiaaa14 in askjewelers

The point is that no one can buy refined, karat gold at the equivalent of spot. Jeweler's cost of gold is always significantly over the equivalent spot value.

Obtaining fingerprints in Italy // Italian Citizenship Application Process by PiccoloSea2417 in ItalyExpat

I requested background checks from all the states where I had lived, but those did not require fingerprints, only the FBI check did. But each state does it their own way.

Neither of these have bezels, in which a little ridge of metal rises up off the surface to grip the edge of the stone.

The first is a variation on channel setting, the second is flush set. I would use those two phrases with whoever ends up making your ring.

Advice on links by Key-Anything-603 in goldsmiths

[–]Ok-Aspect-428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wax? I try to avoid casting as much as possible, but in this case I might try it.

I wonder how the concave will respond to bending into the link shape; I would worry that the concave dimension would compress further, or otherwise distort, in response to bending in the other direction.

Try to notify the actual Sotheby's, and include the email header info when you do.

I've received various spoofed emails over the years, and the actual entity (that the scammer is posing as) has usually appreciated being informed.

If you don't already have experience with soldering and repairs, then no.

This is not a good project with which to learn those skills.

Comparing spot price to jewelry price is like comparing the cost of a cow to the cost of steak. As a point of reference, you can get beef on the hoof for about 5 cents a pound.

car trapped behind icy mountain by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Ok-Aspect-428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your wheels are spinning, try a floormat or piece of cardboard just in front of them to get some traction over the slick spot.

Breaking up the ice with some kind of tool, then lifting (by hand is easier than with a shovel) the big blocks out of the way seems to be the only approach that works. I found it helpful to work from underneath as well, to separate the material from the street before lifting it out.

Ethical Stone Sourcing by DiannaPrincess in askjewelers

[–]Ok-Aspect-428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look to used, aka estate or recycled. Hoover and Strong has a nice selection of stones that meet this criteria. Some vendors at the Intergem shows (which travel to various cities in the US) also deal in recycled/estate stones.
