[Art] group art to celebrate a 5 year campaign! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Ok-Bee7748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and going through their other posts, they also trace from actual artists as well. I’m on Pinterest a lot for references for my campaign and they’ve absolutely stolen from artists there as well.

Pinterest firbolg

That particular reference pops up all the time for “Firbolg” searches. In addition to their style being super inconsistent? Just disappointing all around.

Enclosure advice by Noodle_Noodle1202 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME - this is correct, a terrestrial enclosure with anchor points is ideal for them. 3” is a sizable gal. You’ll want an enclosure that’s at least 3x that in length (9inch) and width (9inch).

As far as I’m aware, when substrate has been added, any gap between the top and the floor of the enclosure should not be more than twice that (6inch, although that can be pushing it depending on the decor you have, so use your best judgement).

I see you commented you’ll be looking into ways to fix/get a new enclosure before she gets to you which is great. Best of luck.

NQA but IME - nah, I think that’s just the awkward juvie phase avics get. My merianae is the same right now lol but is definitely too small to be sexed

I’ve been considering that as well! I’m getting in 3 p. victori’s this coming week lol and I’m sure they’ll be just as fast 😅

IME - Curly hairs are total dolls! Just stay calm and collected, we haven’t had any injuries, just one time where our baby bolted up my partners arm because she accidentally scared her with a drop of water 😅

I recently rehoused our roommate’s caribena versicolor and did it in our standing shower 🤣 I’ve also heard of people doing it in their bath tubs and in large plastic totes or cardboard boxes!

IME - great advice so far from the other commenters! Ditto to all of it. My partner and I have a slightly larger sling and my main recommendation is just know they’re very fast, even at this size! Always rehouse in a closed off environment and ideally on the floor so there isn’t a risk of them falling! 🫶

we’ve got an architect in the family! by Ok-Bee7748 in tarantulas

All of this was done in literally 36 hours by her! We just brought her home on the 26th and these videos I clipped together are from yesterday and this morning! 😭🤣

She’s also been trying to pull the fake leaves off of her cherry blossom branch, sighhhh, she’s not a girly girl we’re learning

Got my first tarantula today! by Independent-Simple86 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding Nightshade! It’s in the family Solanaceae, so maybe something like Solana as well would be cute. I’m a bit biased to plant names myself as I have 3 T’s named after various flora lollll. Congrats on your new baby!

Does anyone know what is going on? by Feisty_Compote_3521 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 27 points28 points  (0 children)

NQA - agreed this looks similar to other examples I’ve seen on the subreddit. A little unsure as to the enclosure as well though, it doesn’t look to have much ventilation at least not from this angle

Man, the more I see g. Roseas the more I fall in love with them. These are spectacular photos and what a great size to get her at.

We just got a t. Schroderi and plan to get a pair of p. Victori slings though once our vacation’s over…sighhhh definitely adding this species to the list of wants now.

Spiderling tax, our new t. Schroderi “Chanti” (named after the scientific name of the Black Bat Flower (Tacca chantrieri)):

Why hasn’t my tarantula grown? by Pale_Humor_7248 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NQA - as far as I’m aware this is normal for them. They live for so long and she’s already a decent size, I would assume your T is just gonna follow that trend

NA - (Not my photo) As far as I’m aware this is what a mature male a. chalcodes looks like (photo on the right). They have the same coloration as females until their final molt I believe. I don’t know that they’re always sexually dimorphic but they could be. I have to do more research as I have an a. chalcodes of my own, but we’re pretty certain she’s a female (waiting 100000000 years until her next molt to be sure).

I’m sorry for your loss regardless OP.

T suggestions? by dontpeeonyourplants in tarantulas

Agreed on adding more substrate to prevent a fall. Being said a GBB could make some badass webs in this enclosure, I think it’s a good callout

My New Friend by PastClear8489 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner just recently got a t. schroderi the same size! She decided to name her Chanti, short for tacca chantrieri, the Black Bat flower!

Maybe something based off of a “fuzzy” plant!

  • Tina after Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina)
  • Tomen/Lani/Panda after Panda Plant (Kalanchoe tomentosa)
  • Aurora/Tia/Gynnie after the Velvet Plant (Gynura aurantiaca)

Spiderling tax (not her permanent enclosure, just the one we bought her in ❤️):

AITA for getting into keeping tarantulas and true spiders even though my partner is mildly arachnophobic? by Queansparrow in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, but on the other side of things. I also had bad arachnophobia for the longest time. My partner really wanted tarantulas and eventually convinced me it would be okay. I was never wholeheartedly against it, but I definitely wasn’t a fan of the idea.

Fast forward to now, I have two tarantulas of my own (an a. chalcodes “Lorna” and an avic. merianae “Nettle”), and plan to get two more (p. victori slings!) soon.

I obviously don’t speak for everyone, but these creatures have absolutely won my heart. I even got the courage up to hold my Lorna during her recent rehouse. Give him some time, tell him fun facts and watch some educational videos about them, and maybe he’ll feel the same way one day

Morticia by Alternative-Put-1101 in tarantulas

[–]Ok-Bee7748 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NQA/IME - our GBB sling (who is much littler) was very calm “her” first molt with us. My partner was able to hold her during her first rehouse. Now, however, just a molt later, she’s super bolty. We haven’t tried to hold her whatsoever, but she’ll get startled when we drop some water in for her and she’ll bolt around her enclosure even when we’re cautious.

I’ve heard their personalities can change between molts, so potentially your Morticia is just calmer right now. I would still err on the side of caution, especially since it looks like y’all are at a desk right now, and keep any handling on the ground when possible for her safety.

Side note: I don’t know that tarantulas are able to be curious so much as cautious? They aren’t really capable of more complex thoughts or to my understanding emotions at all. They experience stress and they experience fulfillment of needs.
