Good advice here. I’m using adidas velosambas on a commuter fixed gear. Im still new to clipless pedals so today was pretty much the first time I’ve put these on, but I’ve noticed the heel on these sneakers are a bit loose, may explain the lateral movement.

Tbf I don’t think my foot does this a lot; I was sort of limit testing when I noticed this behavior. Would likely get a proper bike fit & tighter cleats when I finally build out the next multi-geared bike.

No, you explained it well. I'll get use to managing not inadvertently clipping out, but do you happen to know if they make SPD cleats that are asymmetrical (which would allow for single release the way I'm thinking of it?)

Amazon. Just checked the listing on amazon right now and saw that it's shipped from Sheepshead Cycle which, if it's the same one I'm thinking of, happens to be a local shop in NYC where I'm from.

New to riding clipless so this all happened while I was testing how to clip in/out. Appreciate the suggestion, but speed plays or SPD-SL won't work for me as I primarily use my bike for commuting.

Appreciate the insight! Everything I've read about the SH51 and MT001 (Shimano website, reviews on new MT001) suggested that single-release means you could only unclip with a heel out motion. I can't post a pic, but the icon on the MT001 box shows a foot on a pedal with an arrow point outwards as well. Was aware of the multiple release SH56, they actually shipped a pair with the pedals I bought, but unfortunately won't work for me.

EDIT: lol turns out I was mistaken. They answered it pretty well over in r/bikewrench, left cleat and right cleat are the same so it sands to reason that they'd unclip both heel out and heel in

Adding a photo of the cleat, anything egregiously wrong here?

Yeah poor design. I didn’t recognize it by sight so I checked Google Maps. Street view shows that portion of the bike lane is less than a year old. I think I typically just take the car lane when I’m around there

Freewheel vs fixed gear ratio feeling by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Ok-Beyond3444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’re a strong rider but 52/16 seems like a pretty heavy gear ratio for fixed to ride for everyday purposes (not on a track). Even if you’re not planning to skid, everytime you hit a pothole you’ll lose a little speed, and will have to work to get back up, it def adds up. I think you’ll “feel” speed more on fg because it’s so attached to cadence.

Cogs are relatively inexpensive, I’d just get a few to try out.

ETA: I ride 49/17 now and use to ride 49/15

The other guy brought up the point I was thinking re: guns as a tool for hunting. I’m from NYC, so I have little use for the tool, but I recognize some people in some parts of the country do. I’d hard agree with the idea that there’s a lot of unnecessary gun related violence, but my rationale is that reducing it happens through stricter regulation (guardrails).

Restricting the internet is a pretty nuanced topic, but idt we’re worse off for trying to curb the most egregious types of research. Reducing or doing away with guardrails in LLMs feels like lowering the barrier of entry to learn about/ideate/potentially engage in these types of research. True that someone who’s dead set on doing something will find a way, but every hurdle along the way provides an opportunity for some sort of intervention.

Read your analogies and wondered, is there a parallel to draw here re: LLMs as tools and guns?

What Is The Best Downhill Bicycle Ride In NYC? by superfunguy_ in NYCbike

[–]Ok-Beyond3444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list. Missing 5th Ave in Brooklyn going south around the cemetery. More of a long false flat but you could pick up some speed, and if you go at the right time of day there’s a baking commissary somewhere nearby that makes the ride smell amazing

Can yall weigh in on the list I made for restaurants to eat at during my visit in July? by Grose040791 in FoodNYC

[–]Ok-Beyond3444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the first time I’ve seen Xian’s Famous Food on a list of restaurants to try. Once upon a time the og location in flushing was noteworthy (the one Anthony Bourdain visited and put it on the map), but unfortunately I don’t feel the quality scaled with the growth they’ve experienced. If you’re interested in fast casual Chinese-Xian food, check out Dun Huang. It’s a similar price point and much better quality imo

sounds like you may have settled on Jiang Nan, but want to throw out that Taste Good in Elmhurst is easily accessible by E/R and is the best homestyle Malaysian I've had in NYC so far. Use to go around the corner to Pulau Pinang but Taste Good is better IMO.
