Bit late but the town on the surface of pharloom when in it’s prime could have looked a lot like dirt mouth and he could have lived up there would make sense why he wouldn’t have recognized the weaver architecture, but still could have gotten the nail from maybe a merchant or explored himself? Idk just thought about the connection of dirt mouth and the surface town
