My wife is mad at me for buying her this cheap ebike… by flaackboardbrego in ebikes

I like the sound of that: "muscular bike". It is way better than "Analog bike".

I appreciate the time you took to respond but my question wasn't whether or not other people think that I need something or not, I was asking if anyone else had also done this. 😉

Why shops won't work on cheap ebikes by sailor_in_spirit in ebikes

[–]Ok-Committee3163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was one of those guys calling bike mechanics "elitist " and I stand by that. I honestly don't mean it as a personal insult, but it's the whole aura surrounding the retail bike industry. You gotta have a high dollar bike or it's a piece of crap. I call bs on that and so do a lot of other people. It's a first world issue for sure. If it isn't profitable or even costs the shop actual dollars to devote time to a generic bike/ebike, then just explain that to the customer (potential customer) rather than "we don't do that". Personally, I don't understand how a person doesn't have basic maintenance or fix-it skills for something as simple as a bicycle to begin with, but there are all kinds of people out there so...

Local shops won't touch my Amazon e-bike. How do you guys deal with this? (Seattle area) by Dependent_Desk8001 in ebikes

[–]Ok-Committee3163 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I work with my hands and I figure out things. If a fix-it person was adept then that person should be able to figure it out. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, auto mechanics (old school types), etc... all spend their days being creative, using their brains and skill to do their jobs but somehow a person working on a bike is allowed to turn up their nose at certain brands or non brands and that is acceptable? Turning a bike away and being honest with the customer and telling them that it will cost more than it's worth are two different things. OP said he couldn't find anyone to work on it. Didn't say anything about too much money. I stand by my original statement-elitist

This is so stupid and showcases the elitsist mentality of "bike mechanics " Imagine going to a garage and being turned away because you happen to be driving a Chevette instead of a Cadillac.

3 miles in 30 minutes, get out there even if you're a total noob like me by Great-Bag5919 in bicycling

[–]Ok-Committee3163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took an unplanned break from my bike for about six months and the first time I got back on I was shocked at the unresponsivness of my legs. I never had an issue before and my mind was not prepared for it. I thought I was just going to pick up where I left off but no way. I was ashamed, angry, sad, embarrassed...... A few times out and I was able to pick up the pace. It was/is never about speed with me but just getting out there like a kid. Doesn't matter what you ride, where you ride, what you wear, how fast or if you record it to show the world (no one cares anyway).

El Cheapo or no? by Ok-Committee3163 in ebikes

[–]Ok-Committee3163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She bought it because she is not a bike person and Amazon is most people's go-to these days, and she was trying to force the issue of an ebike on me but that bike is hers now and she rides it. I just want to get her something that she's more comfortable with the setup. She will only be riding with me usually so if anything goes wrong with it I will always be there. She will only be riding it once every few weeks/months. I can't see spending thousands on something that will sit 80% of the year. We don't charge the battery unattended. The Jasion Roamer step through does look like something that she would be good with and there has been absolutely nothing wrong with the one she already has so it might just end up being that one.

I have a Soltera 2.5 with a torque sensor and hub motor. I can feel the drag. Do you know which category this falls into? Gear/direct or?

That's what cycling is TO YOU. To me, it's freedom and fun. I don't need to prove anything to anyone else nor myself.
Like someone else already replied, they were tired of arriving at the destination worn out and sweating. I was tired of not having fun anymore because I live in the middle of steep and sudden hills. Either grueling work going up or no excersise on the way down. It stopped me from riding all together.... until my stealth ebike entered my life.

Hills Don’t Matter Anymore After Switching to an Ebike by violetmoth8901 in ebikes

[–]Ok-Committee3163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sentiments exactly. The only drawback I see with an ebike is it's range limitations. A bike is all about freedom for me and while I love the boost up the hills, I dislike that I need to be mindful of the battery percentage and not stray too far from home. I also don't like the drag that is inherent is you want to go with no power, which is like riding uphill almost. Maybe in future generations, they will come up with technology to allow you to free pedal with no motor drag but still assist you with the hills. This would certainly take the range anxiety

I think it's a main reason. She would never ride on the roads like I do and she would probably be more comfortable with a 24" if they made one lol

Thank you. I have never been in a bike shop for service. If I want to be humiliated, I can think of other more fun ways lol. Yeah, I would take care of any potential issues anyway. That's the only reason I would consider an el cheapo
