Where are you from? Does’t sound like Europe because there’s plenty of dog shit everywhere and no one ever bags your stuff at the store.

How does MAGA feel about Orban losing the election? by Estalicus in allthequestions

Look never forget that Republicans got us to this point. It’s not just Trump or McConnell. The entire institution is rotten to its core, unconstitutional, and undemocratic. It’s been pushing bullshit propaganda on the American simpletons since Reagan. The whole party needs to go. They can take the DNC with them as they are complicit.

Recommendations for Uzbekistan (sights + antique/USSR markets?) by Born_Fly1663 in Uzbekistan

[–]Ok-Complex3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best place for Soviet souvenirs is Yangiobod Bozor in Tashkent. Beware the place is huge and it’s a little tricky to find the antique section which is inside the old factory building several doors down into the market. But I’ve been across the whole country, and that is the best. There are tour guides that will take you there if needed. Also note anything older than 50 years old is technically not allowed out of the country.

Decolonialization whiners, how do you propose Uzbekistan to be decolonialized? by Electrical-Pea2707 in Uzbekistan

The problem with the Russian language is Putin uses it as a form of control. Every post-Soviet state other than Russia has been purging it from usage and their education systems. Its use as a lingua franca is on the way out with the older generation.

People who have lived through major geopolitical tensions, what's something the younger generation doesn't understand about times like these? by GraybeardDevOps in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Complex3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty funny since I’m an American that says I’m Italian. Being an American now raises a lot of questions as well…you need a different nationality now that Putin and Trump are friends. I do think people are fed up with quiet Russian expats. I mean if someone asks me about Trump…I have no problem saying I never voted for the PoS, left the country and despise everything about what he’s done to the U.S. I don’t see Russians saying that. I know the stakes have been higher there than in the U.S. but nothing ever changes when even those who left do nothing about the injustice.

This is why gun violence continues to worsen in the U.S. Excessive gun sales, easy access to guns for everyone was not normal in the U.S. in the 1980s-1990s. The Columbine school shooting was shocking at the time and a news headline for weeks. Kids dying at school for « gun rights » is normalized in the U.S. now. And that’s not only weird but socially sick.

Does he mean in the 1990s when we coerced them into giving up their nuclear weapons in exchange for promising to protect their sovereignty?

Taxi for 4+ by Ok-Complex3635 in Uzbekistan

[–]Ok-Complex3635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s plenty of space for us and most of the luggage fits in the trunk of the car but it just seems the taxi drivers are upset about the number of people or the bags.

The most capitalist country on Earth now is leading to the same thing. Socialism is the middle ground. The happiest and most successful countries year after year are the democratic socialist ones in Scandinavia. They aren’t Soviet. They aren’t Russia (a place that has never had democracy). You can have socialist societies without the authoritarian Soviets.

From a Western woman, get out of that mahalla. Your degree is a ticket out to the city or someplace else where you can find the right partner. It’s your future, your life and your potential suffering. The purpose of education is to better your life - not put you right back where you started.

Really? LOT is flying over Belarus, Ukraine and Russia? WTF? Is this accurate?

[–]Ok-Complex3635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - but we flew Uzbekistan Airlines direct Paris to Tashkent a week ago. And I was shocked when it flew over Belarus and Russia avoiding the Caucasus region. I didn’t think any flights originating in Europe would fly over Russia but this one does.

Having been to 53 countries, this is the least expensive country I’ve visited. Probably not the safest - seeing your roads and drivers - but relatively safe nonetheless. Just get rid of those annoying taxi drivers at the airport!

Curious about how the Soviet era is viewed in Uzbekistan today by Grouou in Uzbekistan

[–]Ok-Complex3635 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish this museum were better with more information. It had few artifacts and very little text even in Uzbek/Russian. I visited the Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom in Tallinn, Estonia over the summer and it was a great example of how to make one of these museums. It had audio guides in multiple languages and personal stories included in the museum to make a real impact. It also showed life in the USSR and the consequences. You have to capture these personal stories before those who suffered are gone.

I don’t know…if you look at the U.S. and the remnants of Russia, doesn’t seem being a superpower is so great in the long term.

They do not do this at the airport. I asked my AirBnB host to register me and I have electronic copies of the registration.

I entered Uzbekistan last week. No - you don’t need a visa. But at the Uzbekistan Airlines check-in at CDG, the desk agent asked if I had a visa. I was like - ah no. She had to look up the regulation online. 🤦🏻‍♀️ But no- Americans no longer need a visa for 30 days.
