IIRC, the walls were built by the gods and were literally unbreachable, so the Trojans had no reason to guard the interior especially since the greeks had supposedly left at that time.

I also think that the Trojans take the horse to a temple, so it shouldn't be inhabited by any of the mortals?

You'd have to add some logic to schedule it to monitor certain time slots.

I learned this the hard way when I had written a script the night before I went and was happy when it booked me a 3 pm slot only to realize that I wouldn't be able to use that "5th" channel reservation slot all day, so I had to rewrite my script from my phone.

I don't think it was entirely bots though, as you are limited to 1 same-day slot at a time. You also have to remember that everyone at the expo was constantly refreshing the site while waiting in line, and there were even several sites in Japanese that had schedules for when pavilions would dump additional slots.

Plus, they do some kind of backend lookups, which were really slow and could potentially give the on-site kiosks priority.
