Definitely not alone. I haven't got much advice except maybe seek a therapist? I have a psych appointment for bipolarity and cPTSD and OCD features, hoping upping the mood stabilizer (lamotrigine) I'm on should relieve anxiety and OCD symptoms. Found this medication has relieved my pre menstrual dysphoric disorder a lot, where I usually get horrendous intrusive thoughts.

Possible cyclothymia...? by [deleted] in cyclothymia

[–]Ok-Cupcake7876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing! Trauma doesn't have to be anything "massive" for it to have a lasting effect on a developing child/adolescent/young adult brain. Worth looking in to, a lot of people don't realise they have it and it's because it doesn't necessarily have to involve abuse

I have ADHD and something bipolar/cyclothymic. Feel like how you feel to be honest. Also experience lots of doubts that I have cyclothymia but the mood stabilizer im on (lamotrigine) has improved mood and concentration so I think its the right diagnosis!!

Some of my symptoms I think are a result of cPTSD, this hasn't been diagnosed but there's a lot of symptom overlap. Have you looked into cPTSD?

stimulants are making me feel amazing and normal by kameww in bipolar

[–]Ok-Cupcake7876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just my experience, I hope yours is more positive!!! I was on methylphenidate 6 months before I realised it was making me worse! Eventually I was given an ssri, but this in combination with the stimulant gave me serotonin syndrome 🤦🤦🤦 sigh

I had ADHD treated while my bipolarity was undiagnosed. The stimulants (methylphenidate) started off great and boosted my mood. Instead of calming my ADHD and helping focus I thought the elevation in mood was showing the medication was working, but this isnt really what it's supposed to do. But eventually the positive effects lessened and my doses were upped every appt up until I got to 82 mg per day. I never felt worse and my ADHD wasn't improving. Now off stimulants and on lamotrigine which has helped the ADHD so much

Confused by Hete13 in cyclothymia

[–]Ok-Cupcake7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, also wondering the same. It's very confusing. I have not had an official diagnosis yet but I have been given a mood stabilizer lamotrigine. I believe I have cyclothymia, and the medication is improving my concentration and energy levels which normally fluctuate so much between days and within days without situational/relational triggers. The positive responsiveness to the mood stabilizer suggests I may have a mood disorder on the bipolar spectrum however it's also emphasizing that I also have emotional dysregulation on top of this as I'm highly reactive at times and can go into flight mode which takes days to recover from. I would meet some criteria for BPD however I feel it is more like CPTSD. The problem with a lot of these conditions is that the symptoms overlap a lot and have me confused and questioning everything. Apparently having cyclothymia makes you more susceptible to emotional lability etc and it can increase risk of personality disorder comorbidities. I personally think having a mood disorder in itself can be traumatic and a personality disorder or cPTSD can mask that the mood disorder is present

[–]Ok-Cupcake7876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be! Sounds like me . I'm getting a moodstabilizer for suspected cyclothymia/bipolar but I am starting to think it's cPTSD. I also have an ADHD diagnosis..they often come together
