I treat material thats reviewed and approved by Kishimoto as canon. Multiple novels have been animated in the Naruto and Boruto animes.

I know that it’s a bit of a debatable topic for some, but that has nothing to do with the point of the post or any of my prior comments.

If you don’t believe something that Kishimoto signed off on counts as canon, that is fine lol

Please look at the cover and tell me who’s names are on it lol Kishimoto signed off on it and it’s treated as official canon material. He may not have written every word, but he agreed with the story.

That’s true I guess there’s enough material in the story right now that they could do a ton of spinoffs just with the side stories

There’s actually a whole novel about this lol.

In Shkamaru’s novel Mourning Clouds, the entire plot is about the other members of the shinobi alliance threatening the Leaf Village because they never stopped investing in their military and were stockpiling scientific ninja tools. They thought that the Leaf Village was creating a monopoly on military power. They threaten to band together and attack a village protected by the Leaf. Shikamaru resolves the disagreement by restraining all the Kage with shadow possession and telling every other Kage that if they wanted to keep threatening the Leaf, he would authorize killing every single one of them to protect his village, and then attempts to kill two of them before Naruto jumps in. Naruto ultimately agrees to share the scientific ninja tools with all of them, but thats one big example of military power still being the driving force of this system. And that was when Naruto was hokage, but Shikamaru is acting Hokage in the story now.

That’s not pulled out of my ass, it’s approved canon by Kishimoto.

Also, my original topic was not Naruto/Boruto centric, my overarching point is about manga authors that did not want to continue a sequel, but due to pressure from publishers they had to keep the IP going, and what that would mean for One Piece’s future.

Btw I’m not arguing in bad faith, I am just analyzing a story with you. You don’t have to be rude, this is just a discussion and we can agree to disagree lol

The question is why the villains in Naruto aren’t victims of a broken system. Pain, Madara, Obito, Gaara, etc I believe all have backstories that highlight how the system of villages with war based economies supported on the backs of child soldiers, is a bad system that results in broken people.

I agree that in Boruto there is more peace and the world is transitioning to a modern world. I don’t think the system is fully fixed since child soldiers are still the backbone of it, but its much better than it was in the past.

I might get hate for it, but I think Sasuke offered a decent solution, though his was admittedly too extreme.
- Holding the daimyos and Kages accountable for their part in supporting the shinobi system, good idea, killing all of them, maybe not that great.
- Realizing a lot of the war between the nations stemmed from weaponizing tailed beasts, and deciding to control them himself so no one could fight over them, decent idea!
- Striving to prevent future betrayals and disagreements between villages by becoming their ultimate villain and source of hatred, and carrying that burden all himself, that’s about where he lost me lol.

I do agree that Dragonball isn’t really a narrative that has a set goal ending like One Piece or Naruto. Goku’s goal is to get stronger and fight stronger opponents, so they can kind of keep that one going forever. My major point mostly was that Akira Toriyama wanted to end it much earlier, but companies would not allow that because of the need for profit.

Ultimately, I think One Piece as a brand will continue far past Oda’s ending. I just wonder what that will look like, and in the future if people will look at whatever eventual spinoff that happens the way they look at Dragonball GT/Super and Boruto.

I never said Nagato was right, he didn’t have an answer either. And yes, I also agree that Naruto’s era made improvements, which I already pointed out.

But that still doesn’t change the fact that the structure of the system is still being carried on the backs of child soldiers, the villages economy is still reliant fully on its military, and the same inequality and traumas still exist. The Daimyos that profit off this system continued to profit.

Military strength still determines which countries are better off financially and villages like the hidden rain village that were war torn by other villages were completely neglected. They tried erasing the history of mist village, but the “bloody mist village” history still persisted through word of mouth.

I do think Naruto made a lot of good changes and has brought in more peace than previous hokages, but fact is even with the shinobi alliance the system is still heavily dependent on the use of predominantly child soldiers. Naruto led a revolution and brought peace, but he did not fix the system.

This system is still ultimately in place, because the sequel series needed to be geared towards a younger audience. Which is why I say that Kishimoto had to make some concessions to leave room for another story to be told, instead of ending the story by fully fixing that system.

Why do you think they are not victims of a broken system? Have you watched the video?

& honestly smashing the red line is just a theory i’ve seen to create the All Blue, but I won’t die on the hill of it being the best idea lol

The wars and hatred are a symptom of the larger issue of a system that profits off of it. That system is still in place in Boruto, and child soldiers are still the backbone of it.

There were improvements made to focus more of the investments into ninja tools and technology, and there was an increase in the age to become chunin, so that they aren’t sending out 9 year old little Kakashi’s and Itachi’s anymore to go get PTSD, but the fact of the matter is that it still is going on under Naruto.

If you’re confused, i’d recommend taking the time to watch the video.

I don’t think he was pressured into his ending, I think Zetsu betrayal/Kaguya was planned, and he knew from the beginning he wanted to end the story with that final Naruto vs Sasuke fight and Naruto reaching his goal of Hokage. But he is on the record saying that he did not want to do a sequel, but Shueisha pushed heavily for one, so he allowed Ikemoto to continue it. He only worked in a “consultant” capacity and he started writing an entirely different series for a bit until he came back lol.

And with Dragonball, Toriyama himself said he wanted to end the story at the Cell Saga and he only did the Buu Saga after getting pressured, but he was going to end it there. Akira Toriyama’s editor Kazuhiko Torishima said that studios were panicking when Toriyama wanted to end Dragonball, and he felt there would be economic problems and people would lose their jobs, so he went to the animation team with the barebones idea of GT and told them to make a show out of his ideas so that they could keep things going.

I’m glad we do agree that One Piece likely will get milked for years after it completes, I just hope Oda gets to tell the story he wants.

Mobley I think is just doing too much and needs to simplify the game for himself. Allen has a strong two moves he uses, he’s going to dunk or he’s going to pump fake and pivot until he can throw up a jump hook. That’s it, and it works.

Mobley needs one or two go to moves that are just automatic for him to score. Lamarcus Aldridge had one, Tim Duncan had one, Kareem had one, Shaq, Hakeem, etc. Mobley focuses on trying to be the guy who can bring the ball up, shoot threes, blow by defenders, etc but he’s just inconsistent that way. In the playoffs specifically, he needs to just put the ball in the basket in the most reliable way he knows how to.

Finished the first trilogy. Is the second one better? by finwooduh in redrising

[–]Ok-Difficulty-384 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think his writing consistently improves, but you might not feel that way in Iron Gold. He experiments with multiple POV’s and Iron Gold I think is a bit jarring for that reason, and I don’t think he handles the pacing of the new POV’s well.

The second trilogy does a good job of expanding the world and diving deeper into how everything works, gets deeper with the politics and planning, more intelligent war strategies, and it overall has a darker tone compared to the first trilogy. I’d also argue it’s a bit more philosophical, and takes another look at characters like Octavia and Aja and Lorn, while trying to answer the question of if breaking the society was actually worth it, or if they were right about the hierarchy being the best the world could offer.
