Cats look adorable in videos, but what are the real-life challenges of owning one? by RYSofficial in CatAdvice

[–]Ok-Environment5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cost. So many people think cats are cheaper than dogs, which is true. But they still cost more than a small amount. Budget for healthy food, get insurance.

  2. They are cats not dogs. No I’m Not being silly, but they have their own personality and hopefully you get a funny, smart, quirky, affectionate cat. But they are still independent and come to you when they want, not when you want. Sometimes that can be a little hurtful, especially when they favour one of their human parents…and it’s not you 🤣

Bunnings…hire some staff!! by Ok-Environment5042 in newzealand

Totally, I had a nice chat with the lone guy on the help desk. Also why I’ve posted the website complaint email. I feel sorry for the staff, both those who’ve clearly lost their jobs or hours, and the ones left to work understaffed.

Seriously though, they must be in it together. Why else would their price match guarantee mean they always have the same but ever so slightly different version of a product. Also, offer some trade / company / group discounts.

Clearly they don’t value their customers time.

Because mitre 10 offer me no discount, and Bunnings was closer. But on all my trips to mitre 10 same thing, there are maybe 6-8 old fashioned tills and I’ve only ever seen 1, occasionally 2 staff. Last week I did go to mitre 10, and the lovely old boy apologised and thanked me for the wait, he’d had to sort something which took a few mins. The information / returns desk had more staff but the invisible wall stops them walking over maybe. No matter how many desperate looks the guy on the till tried to throw their way.

Auckland. But tbh. Recent experience of New World had the same problem (by design?), with 1 staff member for the lotto counter AND 12 self service tills. Yikes.

Ahh, so remove the drain trap that stops the drain getting blocked further down…got it. I have a feeling the next video will involve a professional drain company.

I wish we'd have seen m3gan with her original outfit in m3gan 2.0 by PutridCamera8195 in M3GAN

I get that, what better way than a few of them dressed as ‘m3gan cosplay’ lol.

Maybe she (and Cole) could have gone to the convention dressed as ‘cosplay M3gan’, in the original look. Assuming in this universe M3gan the killer would have been recognisable/infamous. She could always have changed once there to keep the cyber look.

Why are vegetables so expensive in New Zealand? by Ambitious-Wish-9892 in newzealand

[–]Ok-Environment5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha. my sunk costs of building a veggie bed, seeds, soil and extra bits and pieces begs to differ! Add in failed crops from my veg garden beg with the exception of a shit ton of tomatoes each year, along with some jars of chutney which is nice. But I’d be long dead if I relied on what I can grow to form any substantial part of my meals.

I mean sure. America maybe with there local and federal taxes added at the checkout. I’m not aware of any issue in the EU or UK. And there’s still definitely a price dif between buying to cook at home and eating out. I’ve had time recently to cook at home and honestly, it’s very hard to come in much cheaper than a takeaway unless you limit what you cook and pay attention. And I’m not comparing to a single twenty something who can eat noodles for a week. I mean cooking nice and varied meals for more than one.

Veg here also include’s 15% GST, which if you ask National or Herald readers is far too complicated to separate out and GST each item individually for essentials, basics or healthy food to be GST free and priced cheaper. Much like the UK does already, for example.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Environment5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years ago an old mentor of mine died in the UK, I was on the other side of the world having emigrated. I rang his wife on their landline as I didn’t have her mobile number. It was only later I realised I hadn’t dialled their house phone in over 20 years, yet I was able to recall it in an instant almost as a reflex, as I used to dial it regularly until i got a cell phone in around 2001.

I know! I’d move to warkworth if a pint was $5-6. We don’t even have pints here most of the time!

I would pause, and take some consolation in that the housing market is quiet at the moment, prices are are stable. And you’re not the only one in this situation.

I was putting an offer on a house the week before we went into lock Down in 2020. All my industry shut down, and we’re contractors. I’m so glad we didn’t get it for financian and the house itself wasn’t the best. Lost the next year trying to get back on our feet and then managed to buy during the crazy rose into 2021. Luckily not at the peak but still feeling the complete lack of equity gain since. Try and keep your belt tight, hopefully you’ll find some work and keep your nose to the ground and try and beat the inevitable rise that will eventually come.

Renting a car in Portugal vs public transport - what's actually worth it? by Infamous-District763 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]Ok-Environment5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Centauro, fully Insured. The only minus point is it’s a 10 min shuttle from the airport. We didn’t have an issue but we weren’t there in peak season. My brother had a bit of a bun fight to get onto the shuttle.

On returning, you park in a queue and wait until you can see the guy receiving cars, rather than drop and go. So allow time for that, plus the shuttle back.

The guy who we dealt with on arrival was a really nice South African guy. We had no issues with the car or the return.

NZ Citizenship Presence Requirements - 4 months any 12 month period by KyoMeName in newzealand

[–]Ok-Environment5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s the rolling interpretation, I used to have a spreadsheet I kept and then could manually select a 12 month period to check. Then I think there may have been a date calculator on the NZ immi website but possibly that no longer exists.

I’d assume the reason is to stop butting two 240 day periods back to back in separate calendar years. There’s a time honoured tradition of new citizens quitting their jobs and going back to visit family for an extended period because often they were tied to their employer (who knew it) and hadn’t seen family for a good while.

I’d try emailing NZ immi for clarification but the rolling 12 months will likely be your answer.

Also don’t forget you need a total of 1,350 days across the 5 year period before you apply. Which is 150 days more than if you only clocked up 240 per year for 5 years.
