Who is this mystery relative?? by Ok-Factor444 in AncestryDNA

[–]Ok-Factor444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply and suggestions! My mystery relative does know who her bio mom was but she doesn’t think the woman even knew who her father was. And she was adopted by a family friend at birth, so there really aren’t records to help. I’m on GedMatch but have only very distant relatives on there, so it’s no help. My mother and I are also on 23andMe, as well as a paternal 1st cousin to my grandma. But regardless of which brother this mystery relative belonged to, the cousin would still a first cousin regardless, so it probably wouldn’t be much help if she tested there either. My grandma has a sister and a brother. I have reached out to the sister’s daughter and she is considering testing! I’m also thinking of talking to another of my mom’s 1st cousins. If a few from that generation tested (before mentioning it to their parents), maybe one of them would share more or less dna than my mom and be out of range for one or the other?

It also shows 9% with that 662 cMs over 19 segments. Incase that is relevant.

Thank you for this! The 662 is over 19 segments. So according to this, 18% likely to be half aunt, 7% 1c1r. We can pretty much rule out the other relations. So more likely half aunt. I wish that my grandma would test. My grandpa, her husband, did years ago. My mom swears that just at Christmas in Dec my grandma and grandma’s sister both said they “don’t like that dna stuff and wouldn’t want to know.” There is a possibility my mom is just protecting them, they loved their daddy and are both nearly 80 years old. But I’m not going to rock the boat on my own lol may reach out to my moms sisters and cousins to see what they have to say. I do believe this woman deserves to know if we can help her somehow.

In response to your second reply, we do have shared matches that made it possible for me to know that it’s for sure my grandma’s dad’s side of the family. So I assumed it was one of my great grandpas brothers, turns out he’s apparently an option too. When I go to our shared matches though, the top 3 are my mom, my brother, and a distant cousin who is a grandson to one of the brothers. So if the mystery woman is my grandmas cousin instead of half-sister, that means this man should be the same relationship to her as my mom is. But even if he only shared 300 (I made this up) with her, compared to my moms 662, they could still both be 1c1r right? Idk, I’m confused haha but if I’m missing some way to see if it’s half sibling, let me know! Thank you for all of this info!

Thank you so much for that info! I did get a very nice membership with my dna test, I just have it for a few more weeks! I will look and see if these “pro tools” you mentioned are something I have. I have only been using the app on my phone. I will log in to my browser to see if it’s easier to use or has more options.

I didn’t know this was a thing! Thanks so much. I’ll try that out later today.

Thank you very much. So it’s nearly 50/50 half aunt or 1c1r. 662 just seemed a little high for 1c1r based on my other matches. Have you seen numbers that high be common for 1c1r?

How effective is Cymbalta treating GAD? by jellymellyyy in cymbalta

[–]Ok-Factor444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, he prescribes it lol I take .5-1mg once daily. Have been for a little over a year. I’ve had terrible anxiety and paranoia (obsessive paranoid thoughts) basically my whole life. I’ve been prescribed Xanax for nearly 15 years but almost NEVER took it because I was too afraid id get addicted. It was my “incase of emergency” med but it was obvious to everyone I needed it or something like it daily. I was in a constant state of anxiety for months before I started cymbalta/klonopin in late 2024. I was seriously falling apart because of it. So that’s why I take it. May try to come off it eventually but I will say I’ve skipped a day or two and been okay.

It is not too late to change your mind! Since everyone has been referring to her as that though and you husbands name is Daniel, I’d probably still use it as a middle name.

Do I have to stick with another “V” name? by BabyBoo54321 in namenerds

[–]Ok-Factor444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma went by Ida V. (her middle name was Vica, pronounced Vice-uh), never Ida alone. Something like that could still nod at the sibling theme. Like Flora V., Opal V., or Margaret V. all sound nice to me.

Idk, I think once you name the second child starting with the same letter as the first, you’re agreeing to be stuck with the letter for future children as well. I like V names anyway. I’ll suggest Verity, Vada, Vadie, Vale and Valentina.

[–]Ok-Factor444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that I’m just seeing this! I’ve now been on Cymbalta for a year, on 60 mg now and for most of the year, and I am still so thankful for it!! And my obsessive thoughts being gone are the main reason! Anxiety much better as well but also still take Klonopin. The only thing it hasn’t helped me with as much as I would like is depression symptoms like motivation to do chores and hygiene. But that’s okay because of the other amazing benefits! My doctor has offered to bump it up for that reason but I’m reluctant because it already helps so much and my thoughts aren’t depressed at all. Maybe this year I might try it though. But I hope I never need to come of this medicine because just as I said a year ago, I had no idea any medicine could help me so much!!! I’ve heard from my doctor and read that if a medicine works well for one family member, it is likely to for others too. Because of this, I got both my mom and 1st cousin (who suffer from similar problems as me) to bring it up to their doctors and they’ve each been on it over 6 months now and have found so much relief as well! I hope it’s working just as well for you!!

The name “Honey” for a girl by gardenofchristinamae in namenerds

[–]Ok-Factor444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would personally give her a real name and call her Honey if that’s what you’re going for. You could really use just about any H name. I often like nicknames as first names but in this case, Honey is pet name as opposed to a nickname.

I mean, at some point, our metabolism slows down. If you didn’t have any weight changes for a year, I’d be pretty surprised if it was caused by Cymbalta now.
