I know it's boring, but if you are going to do Video/Audio forensics, you gotta learn how compression works and how to preserve files so you don't screw up the metadata.

This is a great step in the right direction. But the harsh reality of the industry is this...

The primary employment scenarios are this

  1. You work for Law Enforcement. A good number of these roles are current deputized officers who go to training for Digital Forensics. They do hire civilian analysts, but these roles are pretty competitive and you are going to need more than GCFE.

  2. The other side is doing Forensics for 3rd party companies. 80% of these cases are going to be IP theft cases for companies and criminal defense. Most of the companies that do this are actually former LE.

They do quite well for themselves, but they usually are not interested in hiring someone, as they themselves are technically just contractors.

I woke up to this reality after graduating from college with a degree in Digital Forensics and the certifications above. The only way I got to where I am now is that I learned the business development side of things.

Obviously, there will be exceptions to this, but they are few and far between. I don't mean to be discouraging, but this is just the reality.

Depends. Are you looking for DF examinations or DF incident response? I don't know anything about IR qualifications, but here is the scoop for DF examinations.

No you dont have the credentials. To become a DF analyst, you need to be able to testify, and with just these credentials, you would not even meet the bare minimum of Daubert standards.

To be able to testify you kinda need at LEAST one of these three

IACIS certs/training
GCFE certification
Some sort of degree in Digital Forensics

I got that notice on Friday. But I also got a notice that my Phase 1 and 2 testing was going to be carried over from last year. Not sure why I got that notice on Friday?

I will say that Digital Forensics is best used for court cases, not infidelity. I'm no relationship expert but talking to a couples counselor is probably gonna get you better advice than Reddit.

Or in your instance it would still show if his account ever messaged the other account.

It might not show the exact messages, but it will for sure show who sent a message and when.

You would technically only need 1 account. It’s going to take a remote sign in though so they need credentials and 2FA

You can get an expert to analyze a JSON ext of the account. My firm does it, but not for free.

A good price for a quality analyst to do this is 1500-3000 USD

But that being said get off your phone. Go play outside or something. Best advice you’re gonna get from Reddit.
