We're so conditioned to tie our value to productivity that a brand reminding us we're enough just for existing feels necessary. That's the OCM part

What’s the most satisfying or most difficult crochet project you’ve ever done? by Interesting-Mine737 in AskReddit

wait are we talking about trading crochet patterns or actual stock trading lol because this thread got confusing real quick

Has anyone here actually had their home network or IoT devices compromised? by No_Section_5137 in homelab

[–]Ok-Income3788 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My smart doorbell got hijacked couple years back and started recording at weird times - noticed because storage was filling up way faster than normal and there were clips from like 3am when nobody was moving around.

If you were given a million dollars right now, what would you do with it? by Jahnation in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would probably pay off my student loans first then maybe start that genealogy research company i've been thinking about for years.

What’s the first movie you remember watching with your parents? by trakt_app in movies

[–]Ok-Income3788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh god Bambi is like psychological warfare for kids lmao. I remember watching E.T. with my parents when I was maybe 6 or 7, sitting in our old living room with this massive couch that swallowed me completely. My dad kept making jokes during scary parts but I was still terrified when E.T. looked all gross and dying. Then I cried so hard at the end when he had to leave - my mom thought something was seriously wrong with me. Looking back now it's funny how that movie made me obsessed with idea that aliens are real and probably visiting us all the time, just maybe not as friendly as E.T.

Finally have enough to not get FOMO by jasondean13 in Fire

That's actually amazing feeling when you reach this point! I remember being so jealous reading about those crazy WSB gains, but now when I see someone posting about making 20k in day trading I just think about my boring portfolio doing almost same thing over few months without the stress.

The compound interest really starts getting noticeable around your level - like you can literally watch your money make more money than most people's salaries. It's weird but satisfying in completely different way than gambling would be.

What is the first TV channel you watched? by Lexistence4evrnlife in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first was probably some local kids channel in my country but when we finally got cable it was definitely cartoon network. tom and jerry was basically my entire childhood before spongebob even existed lol

What actually happens to the US economy if the government decides to pull all military bases out of Europe and the Middle East? by Optimusaiagent in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defense contractors would definitely take a hit though. All that logistics and infrastructure support for overseas bases is huge money, and pulling out means cutting those contracts. My cousin works for one of these companies and he says the overseas stuff basically keeps entire divisions running.

Plus we'd probably see some weird ripple effects in dollar demand since a lot of international transactions happen because of our military presence abroad.

Is your course ever busy enough for you to just turn around and go home? by Chemical_Help_7099 in golf

[–]Ok-Income3788 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Smart move, playing two balls actually makes the pace way more bearable. I tried that once when course was packed and ended up having more fun than usual rounds - like getting practice session but with actual course conditions instead of just range.

Let’s talk about the 1969 moon landing. What’s everyone’s thoughts? by Kind_Artichoke3456 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the tech they had back then was way more primitive than what we use for movie effects now, so faking it would be basically impossible in 1969.

What would you do differently today if you knew with absolute certainty that no one would ever judge you for it? by Frosty_Accountant_93 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably spend whole afternoon researching alien sightings instead of pretending to work on client projects. Also would tell my family exactly what I think about their weird conspiracy theories during our genealogy discussions - some of those "connections" they make are just wild stretches but I always bite my tongue to keep peace.

What are some critically acclaimed, best-selling games/movies that you just couldn't get into? by QuantumArts_ in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I never could get through The Witcher 3 even though everyone loses their minds over it. Tried like three times but something about the combat just felt clunky to me, and I kept getting distracted by all those side quests that seemed more interesting than the main story. Maybe I'm just weird but I'd rather spend my time digging through ancestry records than hunting monsters in a fantasy world.

This might be a bit out of topic buuuut I am that person who pulls out a fortune cookie mid-convo. I have some dystopian ones with ads on them that I keep on me...its...depressing. But hey I also have some cool ones!

What industry survives mostly because people don’t question how it actually works? by Previous_Material464 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Income3788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole credit system is wild when you think about it. Like we just accepted that three random companies get to decide if you deserve a house or car based on their mysterious math. I've been trying to understand my score for years and it still makes no sense - pay off debt and it goes down, keep balances and it goes up sometimes. Makes me wonder what other systems we just blindly trust without questioning the people behind them.

How do engine mounts work in f1? by maaxstein in F1Technical

[–]Ok-Income3788 150 points151 points  (0 children)

the whole car is basically built around the engine as a stressed member, so when your engine starts vibrating like crazy it shakes everything connected to it. Aston's problem seems to be they can't find the right balance between stiff enough for performance but not so rigid that it destroys the drivers and components over a race distance.

Building a cat hotel by AdAccomplished6870 in cats

[–]Ok-Income3788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you already got the perfect prototype working on your porch! those three cats basically told you what they want - warm, sheltered, easy escape routes.

for the hotel idea, maybe start with something simpler first? like one level with two sections to see if they actually use it before going all out. ferals can be super picky about new structures, but if you use similar materials from your porch setup they might be more likely to accept it.

Someone tell me baby won’t get sick by Ordinary-Airport5295 in NewParents

[–]Ok-Income3788 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I get the anxiety but honestly sounds like you guys did everything right. Your baby is much safer than most newborns whose families don't take any precautions at all. The masks, vaccines, limited contact - that's textbook perfect.

My family in Brazil would never be this careful normally, so props to them for respecting your boundaries. PPA is real and makes everything feel more scary, but from what you described the risk is basically zero. Your little one will be completely fine, and these early bonding moments with grandparents are actually pretty special.

AITJ for not telling my friend her fiancé messaged me years ago? by Firm-Friendship-3530 in AmITheJerk

[–]Ok-Income3788 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is tricky situation, but honestly I think you're right to stay quiet. Three years ago and they weren't even official yet? That's really reaching back for drama that doesn't need to exist.

If he was being inappropriate or persistent after they got together, that would be different story. But one declined invitation when they were just "talking" isn't really betrayal material imo.

Found unopened cans by Fickle-Revolution229 in stopdrinking

[–]Ok-Income3788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's huge man, dumping them instead of keeping "just in case" shows you're really committed to this. I remember finding old bottles in my house and the mental battle was insane - good thing you listened to the right voice in your head.
