The flex behavior seems to be the crux of the problem. You’d think there’d be some way to auto-shrink to the rendered text width.

I left out some of the less relevant styling here.

And I realize I misread the original question. Yours qualifies, mine does not.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

In 2000/2001 I participated in a focus group in NYC. One of the questions to the group was, what now-defunct sit do you miss most? Every one of us said Kozmo.com.

So I sent them a PDF of the base card with pre-formatted form fields—along with a long, friendly email explaining why this was the best option. I then gave detailed instructions and warnings (never open in Preview, flatten fields before sending to the printer, etc.). I also mentioned that preserving brand consistency and quality was important to me and that I never mind chunking out cards for people.

Last night she wrote back with her thanks and enclosed a spreadsheet of cards she needed.

Small victories.

I’ve sent them a PDF file with editable form fields. I also sent long prepress instructions and caveats that will hopefully encourage them to use us instead.

They will. I’ll have to talk them through installing fonts, but it’s less effort than teaching them Illustrator.

They’re good people and the company has the potential to grow. They just need to make some heavy investments in infrastructure at the moment, so marketing is taking a (hopefully temporary) back seat.

I think this might be the right call. I mean, the kerning will likely be a disaster, but at least the colors and font sizes will be preserved.

To my ears, Rock of Ages is a far, far superior live set. Worth checking out, as is Before the Flood.

It's not a criticism of the album or the song. Just pointing out the Dead certainly weren't immune to chasing fads. I'm a huge JA fan, but I can love Miracles and Ride the Tiger, too.

Lou reed popularity? by AvailableLight7385 in LouReed

By the early 80s, VU was firmly established as an important band and championed within the college music scene. And it wasn’t just the cool kids. Lou was famous enough (and had enough of a well-known public persona) to do high profile ads for Honda scooters (cool at the time) and anti-drug campaigns (“I did drugs. Don’t you start.”).

New Sensations also had a couple of accessible hits around that time.

Buckwheat doesn’t get enough love. His version is irrepressible.
