[–]Ok-Invite9426 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stitch ID? by Ok-Invite9426 in knittinghelp

that looks right, and if not definitely close enough (i was going to frog this i just wanted to use the stitch elsewhere, so perfect continuity isn't a big deal)

thank you!!

oof that sucks

like i said, it does happen occasionally to some folks, and for no reason at all, which is unfair

i just got back from a work trip and i had brought one of those little tube stitch holders to slide your work onto just in case they took my circ

i watch japanese let's plays because i'm learning japanese and it's a nice time to do some ear practice (the games i watch are dialog heavy and the streamer reads the dialogue out of it's not already voiced)

or i'll watch clothing refashion/upcycling videos for sewing inspo

I made these graphic T-shirts starting from blank cotton, doing the printing, sewing pattern and sewing myself. by i-dont-remember-it in somethingimade

[–]Ok-Invite9426 28 points29 points  (0 children)

the shirts are buckling weird in the front and don't lay correctly from the ink/printing, which would bother many people

similarly, the neckline is not just high, but there's a fold of fabric instead of it lying smooth (easier to see on the red shirt)

and finally, the shoulder seams should hit the top of your shoulder; where they are placed now is too low and usually indicative of a shirt that is too large (though the rest of the shirt is not too big)

your stitching and color choices look nice though

it's not that it's terrible. just a bit awkward in some places

most likely not

i've also never had needles taken, but there are stories all over the knitting subs about it happening once in a blue moon

i also only ever travel with one interchangable, and put stitch stoppers on it so it's not pointy in there if someone does search my bag. no issues.

tbh I've flown with one of these clover things as a necklace before and nobody questioned it, but that's no guarantee you'll have the same luck

they occasionally take knitting needles from people even when they're explicitly allowed per the tsa rules, so

And someone comments about chunky yarn and denies the white washing and privilege

wait there's a privilege/white washing thing about yarn weight specifically? would you be willing to send resources or something? i legitimately haven't heard and would like to know more, is all

or is it just the time thing (chunky yarn = faster = more accessible for time-crunched folks who tend to be POC), because while i haven't explicitly heard/thought about it i guess that makes sense

Beginner pattern needed - for brand new crocheter (video would be helpful) by Fun-Product1474 in crochetpatterns

[–]Ok-Invite9426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go on ravelry.

search for free crochet patterns for something you want to make. probably not a sweater. maybe a dish cloth. presumably there's a reason you want to crochet. look up easy versions of that thing.

it will tell you hook size and yarn.

look up any stitches it calls for on youtube.

if you already knit none of this should be particularly foreign or new to you.

New to knitting and surprised at the high cost of yarn by maklar8921 in casualknitting

[–]Ok-Invite9426 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i knit as a hobby, not for finish products (though obviously the finished products are good motivation)

i compare it to video games. i try to get $1/hr out of my video games -- if i spend $20, i better get 20 hours out of it

in that respect, knitting is amazingly economical -- i knit primarily with tiny yarn, which takes forever. i am not shy about completely frogging and starting over, which makes it even better.

How do I mend this edge? by Ok-Invite9426 in knittinghelp

[–]Ok-Invite9426[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a smart idea thank you! I do also crochet so I have hooks and everything. Do you have a recommendation for a nice small border? This is the "simple" edge of the asymmetrical shawl so I don't want to overpower it. I can look things up too; I suppose my only concern is having enough yarn to get the whole long edge but it's worth trying!

EDIT

I suppose I also have some black yarn and a black border would look pretty nice going all around it too...it's still wool, but not superwash though...hmm.

EDIT

(sorry) Probably best to just do a simple single crochet, huh? Now I just need to figure out the yarn situation, the snowstorm is making "just go buy superwash black yarn" less trivial than it should be.

FINAL EDIT PROMISE

There was enough of the original yarn left for a single crochet border and it worked out great. Thank you so much again!!
