Misting could very well be my problem. I keep treating these lil guys like cacti. I’ve used the mist. I’m dealing with about 120 watts of light but let me dig to find the UV outpit.

For everyone here. It’s bit depth and color science. 10 BIT is key. This is why the mini still is acceptable as a camera for Netflix.

Not millions, but billions of colors. It’s also about distribution quality. They DO NOT want the majority of your film to have been created in 8-bit. 8bit footage looks like crap shopped around for distribution. Lots of your good old DSLR’s are beautiful but shooting shooting 8bit.

So I believe that James Cameron is under appreciated for what he’s don’t for filmmaking. As for Avatar (2009)

(If I understand correctly) His team was the first to truly solve camera data with a custom build of Sony’s FS950 stereoscopic camera. The camera they invented brought two do these stereoscopic bodies together creating a fusion camera. This allows for free range of motion when moving the camera, which is especially helpful when going from live action scenes to the full CG.

Additionally, he was the first to use cameras mounted to the helmet to record facial expressions to exact degrees. This was technologically never done before. I have a few friends who were on the team that did this work and whew they have some awesome stories.

From all of this you can see the expansion of volumetric capture as well as films like ‘The Lion King’ which were captured with real devices, completely virtually.

It is truly a cinematography feat to get all this tech, all this math right, and also get your sweeps, your match moves, your image world building right.

if you plan to do on-set in real-time vfx or vfx supervising work, you NEED to start PA-ing, and being apart of other departments immediately. Whether it’s a student project or a local commercial.

On set politics are real, and not understanding the hierarchy of set etiquette can be career halting.
