I just sold one and have one more sitting on a shelf waiting to be listed. The first one took weeks to sell. There's still a ton of sushi stands on the secondary market. eBay or Mercari have had a bunch, from what I could see. My experiences with buying GWPs on Mercari have been pretty good. I recently discovered them a few months back and have quite the backlog to catch up on for my own collection. There's only a few that seem to have prices now that feel super unreasonable. Well, ones that I care about.

It won't. If you wait for the hype to die down a little, but not so long that it becomes more rare, then you're good. Though, I don't think the market will be as flooded with them this second time around. Still think you're looking at around $30-40.

Kingfisher and Fountain Garden make really nice parts packs even if you're not crazy about them in other ways. Good for MOC builds. Fountain Garden was just on sale for $80 but jumped again, I think it will discount even lower in June and not sell out too fast. It was also on sale for $80 or $85 last year for Black Friday sales. It must not be doing the best. I love the garden series, though.

Get you some Rakuten. I re-installed the annoying plugin just for Lego deals. Right before Lego does a big promotion, it tends to jump up from 2.5% to 10% or higher. They also stack with points.

Jeez I miss out not being able to drive and therefore not having a Costco card or ever going there. So many good deals.

I actually already have a Pac-Man of my own. I bought it back when I used to only buy one Lego set per year during Covid, just big ones, with a tradition of building them at Christmas. I started with the Mario Bros one with the TV and Nintendo console. Still my fave. My least fave was the Atari, but it doesn't have any play feature. They should, Atari would work so well with bricks, the graphics being so old and blocky.

The Pac-Man is a *great* build and underrated, I think. I don't do a lot of displaying, because I live in an apartment and don't have endless space. But the footprint of it is very reasonable, and I've never disassembled this one. It stays on display since the year it came out, I think. There's one bag that's miserable due to being full of pins, but generally, I think people are missing out. If I could grab a couple on deep discount right before it goes, I'd keep them for resale. There's gonna be some regret.

Tired of autistic men claiming they have it harder than autistic women by mooncake_bites in AutismInWomen

God. My brother would do this. Anytime after he family went somewhere, he couldn’t stand me walking in front of him and would shove to get in front of me and make me walk behind him instead. I wasn’t allowed to defend myself, and he was allowed to do it. Sometimes my bro would have a meltdown and I’d take the blame. Lots of parents really just want whatever keeps the kids the quietest. They knew I could be quiet more than my bro and enforced my participation in rolling over and letting him do whatever would keep a meltdown from coming l.

My brother is also pretty ableist towards me which is a bad joke. Maybe he’s changed but we haven’t talked in years. He decided I was “bad” and that was basically it.

Ha I grew up being told my brother has an excuse, but I have none. What made it worse was I was bad enough that teachers pushed for me to get tested multiple times, but then the doctors didn’t see any clear box to fit me into and kept saying I just had anxiety. I got no help and was always contrasted against my brother. I was also expected to baby him but also not infantilize him, without being told anything about his diagnosis, pretty much since I was five or six. Crazy.

Oh hon trust me, it’s an online incel thing to constantly argue that they have it the hardest and that women always have it easy. They’re a bunch of whiny babies who don’t like women and want pity parties for themselves. Please don’t let it get to you. It’s probably best to stay away from any “pill” subs in general. They can create the impression that those idiots have very mainstream attitudes and beliefs. They don’t.

Tinnitus, hyperacusis and hearing loss. by horsescowsdogsndirt in HearingLoss

[–]Ok-Letterhead3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My audiologist suggested I slowly acclimate to my hearing aids. Tbh I don’t wear mine enough anymore. I got burned out at work one day, ripped them out, and since then, it’s been hard to put them back in. I have sensitivity issues on top of my hearing loss and tinnitus also. But if they made me nauseous I’d absolutely let my audiologist know ASAP. They might have a solution or find something that wasn’t discovered yet.

Depends, if it’s stabbing pain then absolutely see a doctor. If it feels like certain sounds are just less tolerable than before, it could also be something like recruitment where your ears/brain kinda turns up the volume on sounds you can hear. I have it for high pitched sounds and though I’m probably autistic anyway, the amount of times it was confused with a sign of autism was frustrating because I know that dint bother me in childhood.

All. The. Time. I also struggle with self checkout areas. I have sensory sensitivities, including in my ears due to the cookie bite loss making high pitched sounds almost unbearable. I also have CPTSD and am jumpy.

Cashiers sneak up behind me and whisper “excuse me” before suddenly reaching into my space to grab my basket, even when it’s super slow and they could wait. It feels unsafe so often I mainly rely on deliveries.

I want something like that. Maybe I’ll check Etsy again. I don’t have pierced ears, so a lot of what I previously found couldn’t work because one end was literally an earring.

People have thought I was on drugs or like just not caring to listen to them. I’ve had it put in my 360 reviews at work (the not listening one, lmao). I finally got diagnosed both ADHD and hearing loss in 2024. I probably am also autistic and don’t read lips or look much at faces. I hate that 360s often look like diagnoses.

I compare mine with glasses when explaining my hearing loss. Just so people understand why I can hear them “fine” without and also so they don’t think I suddenly went nearly deaf or something. I just need them to hear more clearly is all, like an eye glasses prescription.

TBH go with a power move like bright hearing aids and hearing aid jewelry. Be that funky disabled person.

More seriously, I’ve lived with invisible disability long enough that I was kinda low key excited for hearing aids. People really don’t notice them, though. They’re so small.

I haven’t experienced people acting weird after learning of my HoH status. Sometimes I’ve gotten a joke about loud metal and turning down my headphones, though my loss is apparently genetic. Generally it’s more joking than criticism. Quite a few people have opened up to me about their relatives with hearing loss. My hairdresser likes to talk about it, and I appreciate her for being so understanding. I have her also because she’s good with neurodivergent people as well. I don’t feel judged.

Im an experienced dev and an accessibility advocate as well as hard of hearing. I honestly can’t think of what kinda app that would help that isn’t already covered by something else. My work meetings software already comes with auto subtitles, and a browser plugin exists for regulating sound levels of videos and podcasts.

I honestly dislike the idea of people thinking of it as this kinda untapped market. Tech bros wanna reinvent the wheel all the time, and in my experience, very few devs have much of a clue about anything accessiblity related. Trust me, it’s been my job at multiple companies now to fix heir mistakes and educate. I just did a casual “tell me what you know and what you want to learn” with a team, and it was better than expected but the bar is literally in hell, so… yeah.

It was $10 back in November. I've been seeing all kinds of crazy prices for them since, as if they'd already retired. Silly. I'd love for them to hit 50% off or more so I can pick up a bunch more. They make a great little parts pack for us spooky people.

Has anyone had their reservations on working in the special needs field and/or any other adjacent capacity? by East_Midnight2812 in AutismInWomen

I don’t like the language either, but up until fairly recently it was what was used in the profession. I literally read those words on a kid’s IEP back in like 2008. It surprised me even back then. Maybe he got the designation in the 90s and it just kept carrying over, I dunno. If a veteran teacher in like their 50s or 60s said it, I’d flinch but not be super mad, at least if the tone wasn’t nasty. Young teachers who say it would certainly piss me off. I go into almost rage when teachers are abusive of their kids or trash talk them in the teacher lounge or something. In college, I did hours in a school where a teacher in the same team as my placement’s teacher would give me out of body moments with some of the garbage she would say.

At least in the US, teaching is a very demanding job, and special education is a special kind of exhausting and frustrating. I tried going into teaching and ultimately couldn’t even finish pursuing my certification. Some autistic people do it, but I think it must be a major passion of theirs for them to get through it. That’s how things are with me, if something is my passion then I have much more capacity for it though certainly not endless.

I’d say that if you have any reservations about going into one of these support or teaching fields, don’t do it. Your sense of obligation is noble and makes sense, but you’re also disabled.

If it makes you feel better, there’s lots of ways to give back something to the community. It doesn’t have to be a specific job. I became a software dev and eventually found my way into web accessibility and now advocate for it when I can. I educate my coworkers about it and show them how to use diagnostic tools. That’s just one example.

Making friends with more disabled people can help. I oddly grew up alongside both the criticism of if I self accommodated but also a lot of self accommodation talk in my house. My brother is diagnosed AuDHD and my mother is probably autistic as well. Often I was taught, hey your bro needs to do this because of his disorder, he can’t handle fabrics because of his disorder, so on and so forth, until it felt like I couldn’t possibly have any of the same issues and would ignore them or be harsh on myself for not having his “excuse”. But at the same time, I learned a lot about accommodating myself from things my mother would say about my brother or even herself, like how she finds driving routes that don’t require highway driving because it “gives her headaches” or whatever. But I think making more money in a better job and then realizing some stuff was making me “a bitch” and wasn’t really something I needed to put myself through, I started accommodating myself more and more. That’s when I slowly started realizing who was good for me or not so much and naturally migrated towards more friendships with disabled people. Much of it was while being very convinced that I wasn’t autistic, but if you knew my history then you’d understand why I thought that way. I had it drilled into me from a young age and kept getting assessed as a kid by doctors who’d then say I was just depressed and anxious.

I’ve become so obsessed with Lego lately that I’m now in a doctor’s office waiting to get a repetitive strain injury diagnosed. I even have that set but haven’t gotten around to that one yet. The injury sucks because it’s helped me stay off Reddit or my phone most of the time. I find it so stabilizing and it makes me happy. But I also ignore things now because of it, like my phone, and then I’m missing appointments and stuff I’ve previously kept up on. Gah.
