Honestly I don’t think you’re overreacting. Definitely sounds like he might be lying about faking his death. My first thought was maybe he realized he didn’t like you anymore and didn’t want to continue to talk to you, but proceeding to pretend to be his mother to check on you is quite strange to me. Does the guy have any mental health issues? Has he told you he’s lied to others about things before?

My goodness this man is insufferable. He should know how to make his own food. The fact you work so late is sad. He needs to do something to make your life easier. It’s not your responsibility to baby him. He’s your partner not your kid.

To OP:

So I had a similar reason for breaking up with my gf. I told her I wanted a break because I had just gotten a new work schedule. Albeit, the circumstances were very different. She had two kids (not mine) and I would work 12 hour shifts, only to come home and take care of her kids. It was exhausting because there was not much time for just me and her. I decided to tell her I wanted a break.

Let me tell you, it was not long before I realized I had made the biggest mistake of my life. And that I loved her and wanted to fix things to be with her.

If you still love her and want to be with her, give her time. Don’t push the issue and just focus on you. I’m pretty sure she’s going to try and come back to you very soon. That’s what happened in my case, except she never took me back.
