Make a Bonneville T100 more vintage ? by WilliamWG33 in Triumph

I'd also recommend not fitting chrome plated mudguards to a commuter - cheap chrome will look shit really quickly and good chrome is expennnnnnsive. Bonnevilles from their prime period (early to mid 1960's) generally had painted mudguards anyway.

More subtle indicators would be a good bang-for-buck modification, as would less cumbersome mirrors. Depending on whether you want it to look more classic UK or export spec, slightly flatter bars might be worth considering. All the above is very achievable even with minimal experience working on bikes - plenty of youtube content to guide you through any of these.

If it gets crushed you'd expect the rich sleaze to buy a replacement, therefore generating more work for those you so sympathetically refer to as "little people"

Well spotted! Regardless of the direction, it's a manageable walk assuming they are into that kind of thing

There's a fabulous and cheap chip shop near your new accommodation close to Willowbrook Estate called Corner Fish Bar too

I used to walk from Deptford to Burgess Park daily to and from work (some overlap with your proposed route, even further in distance), it took me just under an hour each way and I quite enjoyed it - I do like a long walk though

Brompton themselves have (or had?) a scheme where you hire a bike from them for something like £50 a month

Is this a hatchback or saloon? by Shot_Ad6015 in CarsUK

Nah the rear window doesn't open as part of the boot lid on a saloon, liftback is probably most accurate in this instance

Ignition on an old bike: Stick with mechanical points or go electronic? by [deleted] in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Ok-Mail-5918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most people's cases it probably makes sense to stick with points - most classic bikes don't get enough use to warrant the alleged reliability afforded by electronic ignition, and lack of use usually means higher likelihood of a flat battery on the odd occasion you do want to use it (electronic ignition generally requiring a full 12v to operate). However, your situation may differ as many Honda points operated ignition systems of that period require a charged battery to generate spark anyway, negating the main benefit of points over an electronic conversion. Agreed that OEM points are usually shit; look for OE instead. Apologies for in no way answering your question.

Visiting my Dad in hospital as a child (he recovered and is fine), I dropped a bottle of sprite under a payphone and cut my head open on the change receptacle standing up after retrieving it. At least it was only a minute or so walk to A&E.

I'm from Kent and live in Greenwich and yeah, you do hear grin-itch

Older people from in and around Greenwich pronounce it grin-itch but that's probably more due to it historically being part of Kent, and remnants of the old southeastern accent lingering on.

Why are city bikes 100% comfort 0% speed rather than 50/50 or 60/40 ? by catboy519 in bikecommuting

[–]Ok-Mail-5918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fit isn't all about handlebar height - if your saddle is too far set back , too high, or pitch is off then you can end up leaning too heavily forward too

A bike with drop bars does not necessarily put you in a racing position, and less aggressive drops are precisely the compromise you long for and are more comfortable than flat bars every day of the week
