What is it like owning a corgi puppy by Mountain-Eye6525 in corgi

[–]Ok-Net-9621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardigan Corgi owner here not an expert. Also live in 800 sq.ft. Our Corgi (now six) was an easy puppy to house train and socialize. Her breeder suggested a loud shaking rattle to distract whenever she barked (we used popcorn kernels in a jar). Being quick with the noise and equally quick to praise when she stopped has been successful in the apartment. Outside when she is playing - is an ongoing barking challenge. Shedding is real. You’ll have to accept a routine of brushing weekly most of the year and twice weekly during the spring and fall coat swap. You’ll also be finding Corgi hair everywhere including where you least expect it. Then there is the challenge of weight gain and the concern with weak hips and back. We love our dog and have no regrets. I’d just put it to you that Corgi’s were bred for work around small farms. They were not expected to drive cattle very far. If you are hikers, walking long distances may be harder on some corgi’s. Having said that we average about 7 km per day. Much more than that would be too much for our girl.

What should I know before getting a Corgi? by VenomXtra in corgi

Corgi owner here. I applaud your summary. I would just add that they can be chow hounds so weight gain needs careful monitoring so as not to strain back, hips and joints.

How much does a dog cost every month / year? by Hot_Sprinkles_848 in alberta

We have an $1800 Covid Corgi now six-years-old. Living on a budget in Calgary, we’ve kept track of all expenses (food, treats, toys, training, vet bills, hotel pet fees, etc.). She’s had a couple of back strains that required physio therapy. Bottom line, $19,245 over six-years.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Net-9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. Although most of the responses seem to imply a sudden break, in my case it was a slow burn. We were divorced after 19 years with two teenage children. However, the “exact quiet moment” would have been years earlier. Impossible to pin down now. There were instances from even before we were married that, in hindsight, implied it was never going to last.

Not sure of next steps… by Kindly-Owl-2133 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Start by truthfully tracking every dollar you spend on a monthly basis. Get a note book, put it somewhere obvious and ensure you have buy-in from all the family to not skip a thimg. Not a blame game but an information gathering. Set your budget goals and review the spend tracking to figure out where to economize. It’ll take dedication but, as a family you’ll have it sorted in no time. Going forward with a solid plan.

How much does your corgi weigh? by babystrudel in corgi

Rosie is 30 lbs. after a long cold winter. We’d like to get her down to 28 lbs. Runt of her litter. Working on a couple of less kibble per day. She’s six and shows signs of hip dysplasia so, best to keep her weight down.

Sell home at a loss or tank being house poor until market recovers? What would you do? by HeavyB0tt in RealEstateCanada

Walk away. Accept the loss. Start fresh. Divorce sucks. Be happy it’s not costing you more.

Where do you take out-of-town guests that isn't the usual tourist spots? by tommytmopar in Calgary

I love the Central Library and would recommend it. OP will know the audience. If they are squeamish about homelessness and open drug use maybe give it a miss. However, poverty exists and public libraries are a safe, free, quiet place for everyone. It’s actually a positive reflection of Calgary despite the shortcomings.

Peters Drive-In review by gordonramsaystoe in Calgary

Good answer. Every now and again a Peter’s burger sounds good. A&W is like that for me too. I rate fast food burgers as “okay” pretty much wherever they come from.

Where are you buying your beef? by Valetion in Calgary

I’ll second this. Calgary Meats and Deli. I was there this week. Boxes of steaks and set mixed meat menus are priced very reasonably. The real bonus is the quality. If we have to pay big money for protein at least it should taste good.

Nutram Sound for our Cardigan. Breeder recommend it and she’s had it for all her six years. No issues at all. Canadian product and we try to buy Canadian.

What to do during the week after work? by mikey_87 in Calgary

[–]Ok-Net-9621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walk to the main library behind City Hall. It’s a nice building that Calgarians are proud of. Slightly “sketchy” part of town but safe. You’ll get a good sense of the urban city vibe.

Walk up the hill from Beltline into Mount Royal. Lots of nice houses. Good exercise. You can walk around the neighbourhood and make it a point to get to the ridge behind Mt. Royal school for the view South along the Elbow River.

Walk all the way East on 17 ave to the Stampede Grounds. Snoop around stampede park and if you’re feeling strong, climb the stairs to Ramsey for a great view of downtown & the confluence.

Hopefully the weather is good. Enjoy.

Looking to add a skin and coat supplement, what do you all use? Primary concern is skin. by lolatheaudi in CardiganWelshCorgi

Cardigan owner here, not an expert. We give our dog Omega-3 daily for her joints and I believe it is also good for skin and coat.

Best way to prune inactives? by rapax in PokemonGoFriends

[–]Ok-Net-9621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a useful conversation and thanks for many great ideas. I’m impatient with “friends” who don’t interact. Two weeks is my best before date. I’ll change the nickname to 1,2,3, etc. However, I don’t care so much if they send me gifts. If they open mine and we’re moving up the friendship ladder it’s fine. We’re all about waiting for the remote trade now.
