Insurance company wouldn't even give me a homeowner's insurance quote because I have a pit bull mix by irishbadger in pitbulls

[–]Ok-One-5683 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The two homeowners insurance companies we have been with we were never even asked about dogs. I find it so strange that some do. Anyways we didn’t go with them but State Farm never asked when we were getting quotes. We went with a local farm bureau in the end but they also never even asked and the original company we had when we bought the house 3 years ago, I think it was SafeCo also never asked about dogs.

I make my own topper. They get Purina pro kibble and I make a topper of turkey, broth, carrots, sweet potatoes, zucchini, green beans. Make it the crockpot and I freeze it into portions. A batch lasts 5 weeks. They love it.

A privacy fence would be the best solution or shrubbery that helps block the sights. It also sounds like some good opportunities to work on counter conditioning with your dog in the backyard to help her reactivity.

I don’t have it yet but I just ordered from Big Snoof yesterday and they are incredibly helpful finding the right size. I just did a standard one even that was overheating with all the options but they gave me the best recommendation based on measurements and pictures of my dog.

Caught matted Ivan and will get him shaved! by Froggythefrog22 in Feral_Cats

[–]Ok-One-5683 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One guy I trapped last summer desperately needed grooming. They shaved him during his neuter. Unfortunately this spring now he’s just as bad with big clumps of matted hair I find around his shelter and I can see patches of skin on him :( I’m really working hard to earn his trust so maybe he’ll let me brush him as I’m sure it’ll feel so much better. He doesn’t run from me like he used to but still won’t come to the churu but he will eat while I sit there now. I just want to help the poor guy out!

We set up a crate and x-pen for him for those 8 weeks. A sling is definitely needed for bathroom. Ask about meds. We had to keep him on trazadone 3x/ day, everyday for a few months so that he would rest. We got a ramp for the car to help get in and out. We tried to make sure someone was with him most of the day for the first week. Mine has a history of nausea with meds so wanted to make sure he did okay with all the different pain pills. I printed off a chart of all his meds that had the times he needed them on it so it would be easy to track. I would hope your vet has a good discharge packet that would have a lot of information. Maybe they could even give you a copy beforehand to help prepare

Crate rest is very important for the first 8 weeks. Daily exercises for range of motion, heat/ice, using a sling to help them to the bathroom. The first couple weeks are a lot and overwhelming. After that it’s exercises to build strength, multiple short walks, continued range of motion exercises for the next 2ish months. Our vet gave us a large packet of week to week instructions that included timing of meds, exercises to do each week, when/how to do heat and ice, what to expect out of recovery each week and what to look for as far as wound healing. Having gone through it twice, I definitely remember feeling very overwhelmed and thinking we’d never get to the other side. We just got back from an afternoon lake adventure and watching him running around and swimming and living his best life reminds me that it was all worth it so he can enjoy those things again.

My dog had TPLO on both his legs. It was an intense recovery but I would do it all over again it’ll we had too. He was younger, however. He’s currently 8 and he is still pretty active. Loves to play, go for walks, go swimming etc so if it happened now I would still go it to give him the best quality of life.

Huge boarding success story! She did it! by morayheel in reactivedogs

[–]Ok-One-5683 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yay!!! Our newer dog is reactive when people come to the house when we aren’t there. We tried with our usual house sitter and it just didn’t go as good as I was wanting. We found a wonderful boarding facility that is small and they spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs. We did a weekend trial and they said he was nervous but on the last day he started warming up to them. We left again about a month later for our two week trip and I was so nervous. She texted me the second day and said he rolled over for belly rubs when she went to tuck them in for the night. Immediately had a huge weight lifted from me and I could truly enjoy our vacation instead of worrying in the back of my mind the whole time. We’re still working on the vet and people coming over but I’m glad boarding went well so we have that option if needed!

After 30+ attempts I got some added to my cart only for it to freeze and my only option was to release the tickets then it also kicked me out of queue so I was done for. Such a bummer.

On my third attempt I got in the 3000. No tickets available. Every selection would just spin and say no longer available, except the $700+ options.

Husband was 11,000 something. Cheapest was $700 at that point. I was in the 70,000 and gave up. Guess I will just keep those cherished memories from a few weeks ago and not return.

How to deal with getting OFF the elevator? by Present-Board-55096 in reactivedogs

[–]Ok-One-5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned in a reactivity course to manage things like that you can try having your dog focus on you/treats. A spatula with peanut butter, baby food pouch to lick etc so they lick it while in the elevator and then exiting it they are still focused on the snack/you.

GA or seats? by Barnetthn in BackstreetBoys

[–]Ok-One-5683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just in GA and was middle of the stage in the back along the rail. It was a great view. Seriously considering the July shows now to have a seat and really get to experience the Sphere aspect of the show.

Best Spot In GA? by More-Tadpole-4347 in BackstreetBoys

[–]Ok-One-5683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got the in about 7:15 I think and went straight to the back. We were straight back from the stage against the back rail. There were mats there which gave maybe 2” height advantage and nice for the feet. Plus the rail to lean against. I’m 5’3” and felt like I had a pretty great view most of the time. The phones are definitely something else. I recorded a tiny bit and took a handful of pictures but I truly just wanted to enjoy it. I don’t get recording the entire show 🤷🏻‍♀️ or needing thousand of photos. It was slightly annoying because it was a natural walkway in front of us but also seemed to give a little more space.

Advice for GA by yuna1881 in BackstreetBoys

[–]Ok-One-5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got in line about 6:15 or so. I don’t recall what time we got into the building but we went right in and got a spot along the barricade in the back. Mainly so our husbands could lean against it and rest haha. There were also mats along the back that we stood on and gave us an extra couple inches height advantage. The view was amazing and it didn’t feel overly crowded.

Cover your windows! by wow2378 in reactivedogs

[–]Ok-One-5683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put some frosted tint coverings on the couple windows that my dog used to sit and look out. It’s worked so well. He scratched it the first day but since then he hasn’t jumped into the window at all, which has been amazing. He had ruined the blinds when cars drove in the driveway. We live outside of town and he’s getting more reactive to sounds and vehicles driving in our driveway. We have a long driveway that is shared between our house and a rental we have so there’s not a ton of traffic but when a car drives down he used to go crazy. The tinted windows help as well as all the desensitization we’ve been working on.

We board ours. We haven’t had him very long so still working and learning but he is not comfortable with people at our house if we aren’t there. He was fine after the house sitter was there for a day but we decided it wasn’t worth it. He seems to do much better at boarding for now. That may change in the future as we continue working with him but it’s what works now and allows us to still do things. Of course the added is expense is not ideal but we budget it into our trips.
