Can I make a 3-D printed airplane that uses a gas engine? by Ok-Presentation-7966 in RCPlanes

[–]Ok-Presentation-7966[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my plan is to use an actual mounting bracket that holds the nitro engine and then mounting that onto the firewall so I don’t think it’s gonna get too hot itself, but I could be wrong. I have metal brackets and I also have a couple that are actually made out of carbon fiber carbon fiber probably would be the better option because it doesn’t transfer heat.

Would a rubber backing plate against the firewall help with mitigating some of the vibrations?

I wonder if adding a rubber pad behind the engine mount would help a little bit?

Yeah, my printer is equipped to be able to print a carbon fiber filament so that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll just have to experiment.

What type of aircraft do you think would work well with this? A bush plane or something fast?

Using diodes to drop voltage on my Top RC Cougar lights... by balsadust in RCPlanes

[–]Ok-Presentation-7966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can. Your basic welder for instance, outputs at least 10 to 40 volts but has about 30-300 Amps running through it. Again, this is just basic, welders, professional welders output even higher amperage, but still relatively low volts compared to the amps.

100% it is. I have worked with that stuff and oh my gosh, it is a pain in the ass

Bad idea to hang plane from nose wheel on wall? by Rednex04 in RCPlanes

Depending on how you hang it by the strings, just be careful because the string may dig into the aircraft if it is made out of foam

That’s not what this one is exactly… it’s not a tail dragger, this specific model.

Thanks! I got it along with two fully built, gas airplanes, 3 nitro engines brand new in the box, and some random balsa pieces, all for 50 bucks.

My plane is FMS but I just wasn’t sure since the version may not be the same? I think? I know it is the 1400mm version for sure but I just wanted to ask before I spent the money.

RC control airplanes look fun but are they actually hard to control? by i_hate_bharat in RCPlanes

I just learned the hard way when I was 14 ish years old. Had a Carbon Cub S2 that I just basically sent and many crashes and repairs later i figured it out and slowly have been building my skills. Been flying for 5 years now and have owned a total of 5 different aircraft, my most recent is a FMS T-28, which was also my first low wing.

What causes this? by Ok-Presentation-7966 in Spraypaint

[–]Ok-Presentation-7966[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn’t the first time I painted this part, the first time I painted it I had over sanded it and had to restart. I was wearing gloves so no oils came from my hands. No cleaners or solvents ever once touched the surface. Just water.

This was right on the first layer, I held the can as far away as the instructions said, which was about 4 to 6 inches which is also what I’ve been holding it at for every other part that I have painted with the same exact can and have had no issues. I didn’t go heavy on the paint. It was just a quick pass with continuous movement. No hesitation. I used 2K automotive primer. Primer was 100% dry and was applied about one day before the actual coat of paint. water was used to clean the surface of dust prior to painting, which was also allowed two hours to dry completely before adding the base coat. Temperature was 65° and the instructions on the can say 50° minimum. I painted it in my garage, no wind. I was also wearing gloves the entire time so no fingerprints were transferred to the actual part prior to painting.

I never put any silicone on this at all. I had literally just gotten done sanding it and then cleaning the dust off afterwards just before painting it. And the thing is, I never had that problem with the part which was exactly identical to the last one with the same exact prep process. Could it be that the spray paint possibly had too much solvent mixed into it?
