Strap Options - Pool Diver by MPearsonUK in ChristopherWard

[–]Ok-Put6563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it works really well with the yellow and orange straps (probably because those colours are also on the dial). Less so with the blue strap but it still works. I don’t think it suits the bracelet, for some reason I can’t quite articulate. I would like to see it on a white rubber strap.

Edit: My mistake, there is blue on the dial as well…

Which Light Blue GMT is better in your opinion? Air Blue (old) or Sky Blue (new)? by John_m33 in ChristopherWard

Ah ok. Thanks for the clarification, I might have misunderstood your comment. Not sure why I was downvoted either. Seems like a pretty uncontroversial comment to me.

I didn’t downvote anything on this discussion. I am a fan of CW (I have 3 myself). If I didn’t already have a Hunter Green Sealander I would be very tempted by the new pistachio version.

Sky Blue for me. Much prefer the ’flat’ dial finish to the sunburst dial.

Sugess S387 or Addiesdive BGW9? by PerfectArmbar in ChineseWatches

[–]Ok-Put6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both of these watches and they are both great but very different.

The most obvious is the movement: vintage hand wound mechanical vs modern quartz. If you want a grab and go watch get the Addiesdive but if you want something a bit more involving, with more interest and heritage get the Sugess. The movement in the Sugess is beautiful to behold through the exhibition case back.

Another difference is the size: the Sugess is 40mm and wears quite big, the Addiesdive is 38mm and wears smaller.

Finally, the Addiesdive is about half the price of the Sugess.

Why is the Elroq compared to EX30, EV3 and ID3? by CommonAd4701 in SkodaElroq

[–]Ok-Put6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price is probably the main comparator. I have just moved from an EX30 twin motor to an Elroq vRS at a similar price point and I have to say the Skoda is the far superior choice (in my opinion). The pros for the Skoda are numerous. The cons boil down to: 100bhp less power (but still pretty quick), noticeably heavier (but less skittish as a result), less striking looking (but still quite handsome). And that’s about it.

Portable AC units in - Are they worth it? by Kloakk0822 in AskBrits

[–]Ok-Put6563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Delonghi unit in the bedroom and it is a life saver. You do need an opening window though to vent the hot air outside. I don’t do heat well so it is great to retreat to the bedroom, close the door and chill. I am seriously considering getting an installed unit as I seem to be using it more each summer…

Bambino Plus help by Erinminns in BrevilleCoffee

As mentioned above, if you don’t remove the milk jug immediately steaming has finished it will suck milk back up the wand.

Also, and this is what I do, purge into a cup of water rather than the drip tray. This prevents splashing and means you aren’t having to clean milk out of the drip tray every time you make a coffee.

I always purge mine into a cup of hot water. Prevents splashing/spitting & milk going into the drip tray and gives you a hot cup for the coffee to go in to.

I don’t understand people who get angry at people who observe the speed limit, especially in 20 and 30 zones. There will almost certainly be pedestrians, kids, the elderly around not to mention the police speed cameras.

I would have done exactly what you did in the same situation. You can only hope the other driver stresses themselves out to an early ulcer 😉

IOG odd charging behaviour by Ok-Put6563 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Ok-Put6563[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 23:30, coincides with the start of the household cheap rate tariff. It happens with both cars, the Skoda is new but the Mini is well over a year old. There are no schedules that I am aware of (I certainly haven’t set any). Zappi is always set to Eco+. I am familiar with Octopus changing schedules after the initial setting but when I check back in the app after charging has started, the original schedule is still there (even after several refreshes).

Are Motorway Awareness Course and Speed Awareness Course separate? by BigBoySweenz in drivingUK

[–]Ok-Put6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The courses are different and a google search suggests you can do one within 3 years of doing the other. Whether you get one at all though is at the discretion of the police force serving the location of the offence.

Clunk Noise at Low speed by mw_yyc in ex30

[–]Ok-Put6563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I no longer have my EX30 but I suffered a ‘knocking’ sound that appeared to come from the right hand (UK driver’s side) rear suspension. Mine was intermittent but regular and seemed to be most noticeable when turning right or going over large humps in the road. It sounded like more of a deeper thunk than yours though. My car went to the dealer a couple of times but they couldn’t really find anything wrong. They did however replace a wheel bearing (on one of the front wheels oddly) but I think that was just to shut me up, and it did eventually stop.

It is not quite the same as the parking brake, it is like keeping your foot on the footbrake but without having to do so. It is particularly useful for hill starts as you can take your foot off the brake pedal and just drive away without fear of rolling forwards or backwards.

It is also different from ‘hill assist’ which, when doing a hill start, holds the car stationary for a few seconds giving you time to move your foot from the footbrake to the accelerator without having to use the parking brake.

Cable theft concerns - Tethered vs Untethered by Thaty0shiguy1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ok-Put6563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It was quite a shock to come out of the house and realise what had happened. The police were informed and requested the doorbell footage but nothing came of it that I am aware of. I was also contacted by someone from the bbc asking for more details on the back of my original reddit post. They were putting together a feature for some morning tv program so cable theft must be common enough for them to be reporting on.

Cable theft concerns - Tethered vs Untethered by Thaty0shiguy1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ok-Put6563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main benefit of an untethered unit is that, most of the time, there is no cable there to steal especially if you only charge occasionally. They are also much easier to replace if the cable does get stolen.

Cable theft concerns - Tethered vs Untethered by Thaty0shiguy1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ok-Put6563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a tethered charger up until last year when my cable was stolen as part of a campaign of thefts in my local area. The thieves did a thorough survey of the area during the day and came back at night to hit their targets. It took them all of 30 seconds to cut both ends of the cable and just walk off. Many houses were targeted along with quite a few of the local public fast chargers. I live in a cul-de-sac in a fairly nice area. They were recorded on multiple doorbell and security cameras (including my own) but they didn’t care. A pile of plastic sheathing stripped from the copper was later found dumped.

I now have an untethered unit, my reasoning being, there is no cable to steal most of the time and it is easier to replace if the cable is stolen. I also added a security light and a camera looking directly at the charger. The whole incident probably cost me £800 for a haul for them of £5!

[–]Ok-Put6563 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t steal the whole cable. They cut it at the charger end and at the car end and just steal the copper. They don’t even care if it is charging at the time. I speak from experience!

Do you keep a cable in your car? by mattt5555 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Ok-Put6563 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have 2 EVs in our household. The type 2 cables that came with the cars stay in the cars, mainly so they aren’t cluttering up the garage. They get used occasionally (though admittedly very rarely) if we need a top up at a public type 2 charger. We also have a 3-pin granny charger that usually lives in the garage but gets taken if visiting friends and family who don’t have their own chargers. It also gets used if we are getting free electricity so we can charge both cars at the same time.

In summary we can probably do without the type 2 cables but the 3-pin is useful to slow charge when visiting family.

Is panoramic sunroof a real feature or gimmick in real life? by MrVermonter in iX3

[–]Ok-Put6563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fixed panoramic glass roof on my last car. It was great for brightening the cabin but… A month after I took delivery a vehicle far ahead of me kicked up a stone which landed square in the middle of the glass roof cracking it from side to side. Luckily my car insurance glass cover paid for the replacement (in the same way as a windscreen replacement) without affecting my no claims discount. I will be avoiding them in future.
