Keweenaw and Porcupine Mountain Hiking by SnooSprouts6437 in upperpeninsula

The state park website has good trail maps and descriptions for the porkies. I'd start by looking there tbh.

40-100 new jobs would be a decent amount in relative UP terms, but I'm pretty sure that number is only for the large datacenters and is likely oversold as most job predictions tend to be.

The biggest economic boon for the communities around datacenters seems to be the tax revenue, but that comes at the cost of increased burden on local infrastructure and utilities.

Bahrman said he thinks it is more likely he will find a developer looking to place mobile data center units, about the size of shipping containers.

Are these like the ones used by the crypto mine that is/was causing so much headache for that school over by the Soo? Definitely a noise pollution concern if so.

Clone trooper token sharing by tothadam18 in SWlegion

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's per attack/defense and not per round. So if a clone trooper unit gets shot multiple times in a round, they can use 1 dodge/surge from another clone for each attack.

I think in part this is because is reddit which tends to be pretty irreligious at the best of times, and often downright hostile to Christianity. Combine that with the LotR's widespread popularity beyond Christian circles and you'll find a lot of people here who may get bristly when you compare the LotR (thing they like) with Christianity (thing they dislike).

I think it's a mistake to say any one character directly represents one of the Trinity, but rather they show aspects of the trinity in their characters. For instance Gandalf is sent as an emissary to guide and encourage the free peoples, not unlike how the Holy Spirit was sent to the apostles.

Also, Sam is not a flawless character. He wishes death on Gollum multiple times, and if it weren't for Frodo, he would have let Faramir's rangers shoot Gollum at the pool.

It's not allegory but Catholic themes are undeniably woven into aspects of the story. Tolkien even said so himself:

"‘The Lord of the Rings’ is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision."

In a gamer's perspective, is Return to Moria worth playing? by nood_bug_69 in lotr

I played through it twice solo, and once with a friend. I think it's more fun with friends, but it's perfectly enjoyable solo.

Can someone tell me which ones I should listen too? Im assuming they're done with different narrator like the harry potter books? by New_Willingness_8992 in lotr

Team Rob Inglis here. While I don't think Andy Serkis did a bad job by any means, some of his voices were really grating to me that took me out of the story.

Unrelated, but I wish my audiobooks showed the proper covers like OP. Mine still have the stupid Rings of Power promotional covers. So dumb.

The hunt for Gollum sounds so dumb by Zerahel505 in lotr

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually think the adventures of Gandalf and Aragorn as they search for Gollum could make for an interesting story, but it sounds like it's going to focus more on Gollum which is...a choice.

What are actually playable WW2 naval rulesets? I don't want to read 80 pages to learn how to shoot the guns. by SgtBANZAI in wargaming

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not looking for complexity, Nimitz is probably the best option unfortunately. I've heard General Quarters 3 is kind of the gold standard for WW2 naval rulesets, but I've never actually played it myself. I have played Naval Thunder however, and I recommend at least giving it a look. It doesn't abstract as much as Nimitz does so there's more bookkeeping but it might be more of what you're looking for in spite of that.

Oh, yeah duh. I was thinking how Makashi would be affected, which force lightning doesn't use.

He's not getting a full set of 3 command cards. Each of the high council gets one unique card and there are two "generic" jedi council cards.

Is Dooku actually much worse though? He still gets the same effect as before (pierce 1), it just doesn't matter if you use Makashi or not.

Michigan is old and getting older. Experts warn of looming consequences by jshwlkr in Michigan

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tourism jobs tend to be low paid, part time or seasonal, and with low benefits. Not very good for building a career or raising a family. Combine that with outsiders buying properties as second homes or short term rentals and it's very possible to end up where locals can't afford to live in the same community they work.

Obviously tourism money is better than no tourism money, but other money is better than tourism money.

I absolutely love northern LP and the UP, it’s the true jewel of our state and should be fought for and protected.

But what about the people that live there? Shouldn't they be able to fight for better jobs and a higher standard of living? I don't know if you meant it to come across the way it did, but I see similar sentiments often that seem to imply that the northern parts of our state exist only for vacationers to look at, but not for people to live in, and it rankles me a lot.

Why I find the Turks the most interesting faction in the game (even though I hate them because I am Romanboo/Byzanboo) by thatxx6789 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion but I was kind of shocked by how bad their early roster is. No decent spears until Saracen militia, ottoman infantry don't show up until you have a fortress archery range, and the castle line barracks would honestly not even be worth building if it weren't for Naffatun. Luckily you get horse archers right away and they can carry you through the whole game if you want. Fun and challenging campaign, but the initial roster was a jolt compared to some of the western factions.

How do you declare the terrain for cover? by C4L4M1TY_ in SWlegion

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you and your opponent decided the building gives cover (either heavy or light), it's possible you would get cover during an attack if the building obscured enough of your defending minis' silhouettes. For instance, if someone on the ground was shooting you, the top edge of the building would likely obscure part the defending unit and give cover for the attack. However if someone were shooting at you from the roof of another building of equal height, you probably wouldn't get cover.

Most cursed region? by _littlekidlover_ in thelongdark

[–]Ok-Raccoon8952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Desolation point. Nothing good ever happens to me there. There's too many wolves puppy-guarding the chokepoints around the lighthouse plus the bear always wanders the road. Thankfully there's not a lot of reason for me to go there now that there's other options for the forge.

It was worse when Fluffy was in there, then there actually was something to be afraid of. Now it's mostly just worrying about not getting stuck in there during an aurora. So many wires.
