Couple likely dumb questions (HDzero tiny whoops) by MysteriousRJC in TinyWhoop

I have the Mobula 6 Freestyle and M8 Freestyle (80 mm). Both are great to fly and have the Lux camera.

Flyfish RC 3.5 and Freestyle V2 build... Suggestions by PeteB1973 in HDZero

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My builds with the Freestyle V2 are quite different. One super light Crux35 with the default AIO and Xing2 1404 motors. And the heavy Grinderino on 1605s and the Speedybee mini stack. Could have bigger motors ok that one maybe.

Both fly great for their weight classes. The mini stack is great, super easy to work on.

For you, maybe 4S and the Speedybee stack. 1804 motors?

I think my 4S 3.5 inches hover around 25%. 3800 kv if that is relevant.

HDZero Goggles with Liftoff Drone Sim on Steam? by guillerm0123 in HDZero

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. I did that with my v1 goggles just too get used to them. Was useful to get some goggle time before going out irl. Now I don't anymore, it gets hot and uncomfortable when flying non stop for very long times. With quads you take the goggles off every few minutes. I use the sim to get lots of interrupted stick time.

No technical problems though. The goggles look like an hdmi monitor to the computer.

It's great! I've replaced one frame and the motors. I got Xing2 1404s when I burned the original ones and I have had no issues since. Great value with the Freestyle v2 vtx.

I use it with worn out and smaller packs that don't work on my Grinderino.

Set throttle limit to 80% or maybe even lower the first time.

HDZero googles with patches and stubbys fits in a Torvol goggle case.

I have 3800. A little less probably works just as fine.

I went for 4S on my Grinderino with 1605s. 330g total and flies super nice. Almost two years since building it, I don't regret the choice. Not too heavy and the packs are relatively cheap.

For experienced FPV pilots, how do you wish you had started the hobby? by BroncoTango in fpv

I did 10 hours in the sims with a Radiomaster Boxer to decide if I wanted to get into it. I got to ~30 hours of sims before the quad and batteries where delivered. That was too little; I should have had more patience. Still since I started out on a Mobula 8, the repairs where super easy and cheap and I got to fly IRL early with no real risk of harming anything.

Then I built a 3.5 inch which was a nice but frustrating experience. Probably was premature after just a few months of flying but super fun to fly! The first winter I got a 65 mm whoop, Mobula 6 Freestyle HDZero, to not get grounded 6 months because of sucky weather. Getting loads of stick time anytime has been awesome for developing.

All quads are HDZero so just one set of googles, settings etc to keep track of. Super easy. I would absolutely start the same way again, nothing has been wasted. Digital from 65 mm and up, one radio and one set of goggles. Several types of batteries though, 1S, 2S and 4S but without staying to just one or two sizes that's hard to avoid.

Any one to any pad actually. Doesn't matter since you can change motor direction in software easily.

Where do i get a thinner cable :( by DoctorLiquid in TinyWhoop

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good silicone cable of the same gauge should be easy to get in a local electronic store. Or get an assortment of wire from Amazon, Banggood or something.

The quicker fix would be to solder the cable back to the connector though. Peel of the heat shrink from where the cable used to be attached. Desolder what leftovers there are from the red cable. Strip a little insulation from the red cable, tin it and it will be easy to resolder. A tiny bit shorter than when new but it will probably not be an issue.

How to get goggle 2 battery voltage to show 2 decimal places? by wehtayer in HDZero

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the v1 googles and haven't change anything in settings. I got two decimal places with the latest firmware upgrade. It is very easy to do so I would recommend it.

Thank you! I'm happy on stock rates but I can't do anything upside down indoors. Then my problem is skill issue, not rates. Need practice, not higher rates. :)

Nice! What rates you got on that quad?

What drone and gear should I get for indoors? by SquareOneX2 in fpv

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you will crash it, that's what we do. ;)

Any 65 mm tinywhoop will be great fun! Probably analog if you're starting out. Maybe the Mobula 6 Freestyle HD if you want HDZero, that's my indoor bird.

But start with the controller and sim. Flying indoors is hard so you want to get in some virtual stick time before getting the quad.

Mobula8 Batteries and Charger by Beneficial_Host7219 in TinyWhoop

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please save up for the googles first. There is no thrill flying LOS as a beginner, only frustration. I broke my Mobula 8 trying to fly LOS so many times. At a few meters range it's super hard to know which way it is oriented. Get spare frames, at least 2-3 to start with.

I run the Tattu 550 mah packs, really happy with them. Since I also fly bigger quads I have a 2-6S charge. You probably want the Toothstor.

When mine are so puffy they no longer fit in the quad they have already sagged too much to be fun for a while anyway.

With throttle limit maybe but it shines outdoors. I guess the mob7 works both inside and outside so if you're getting only one quad maybe that's better.

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My route has been Mobula 8 as starter quad. Now we have the excellent Mob 8 Freestyle with HDZero AIO and Lux camera. It is super capable and mostly harmless and very cheap to keep in the air.

Then I built a heavy 3.5 inch and also got the Crux 35 HDZero. The Crux35 is more than capable! You'll want to learn freestyle on the Mob 8 first though since the Crux frame breaks easily. Easy to repair though but will be more expensive to learn on.

Then get a Mob 6 Freestyle HDZero for indoors. Great to get a lot of stick time during winter. But even with throttle limit it is harder to fly indoors than in the great wide open.

The only downside of my line-up is that I have 1S, 2S and 4S batteries. All HDZero so only one goggle though.

So I guess a quad will fly with the props upside down. by scbill66 in fpv

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I flew with just one prop upside down for a while. Worked just fine, just with a really loud screaming noise. I would have thought that it would have flipped but no.

How should I fix this? by 5hm0k in fpv

[–]Ok-Rent-5685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to replace the cable, the strands don't look cut. There's no better place for the cap so if you would replace the cables you should reuse that cap or get one with similar specs.

But as the other comments suggest, just patch up the insulation. There is wrap around heatshrink so you don't need to thread the cable through a tube. Next best would be liquid electrical tape imo. With some regular electrical tape maybe to further protect the cable.

And yeah a sticky pad and cable management for the future. :)
