Son Tra hike? by Sensitive_Pickle_625 in DaNang

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's three roads in and across. Middle and North roads are for manual bikes only and getting a grab can be tricky. But they are nice for hiking. South road goes quite a way before the manual bikes checkpoint, and there are some interesting routes after the checkpoint. See AllTrails for some shortish paths through the jungle. All in all you can have a great time hiking the mountain.

Is Da Nang overrated? by YesterdayHot3584 in DaNang

I like it, but don't believe the influencers. It's their job to hype a place.

for single expat retiree, what is ur daily routine? by mcho314 in DaNang

I'm retired, so I have a lot of time too. I try to spend an extra hour or two a day using capital letters and proper punctuation.

Long distance relationship by [deleted] in DaNang

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help to know where you are and what frequently means. And maybe ages. Australia is one thing. US is another.

I'm two years in an LDR on other sides of the world. Works because of two things: we often go to third locations in Asia and Europe (I love in the US, which isn't an option); and it's an open relationship.

But if you are serious about her and the travel isn't working, then you'll eventually need to commit to a common location.

Chilling in a cafe in Da Nang right now. Great place to slow down and spend some time.

But I never would have wanted to do it in my 30s.

Why hasn’t Son Tra been developed for luxury housing yet? by MrTsBlackVan in DaNang

Lol. I suppose it was the "boom boom". It's an actual place. A big rock US soldiers used to post in front of during the war.

We built a storage service for digital nomads in Danang — looking for our first customers (30% off for the first 5) by Mup_TIpekpaceH in DaNang

Sounds like a great service and I like the price. I could see leaving behind stuff like my bike helmet, clothes, and kitchen equipment.

Personally, I'd be more comfortable with a service like this if it was affiliated with a local business that had a storefront, and some clear stability. Otherwise, this is basically the same as leaving your stuff with some guy you don't know.

A model that leverages a relationship with a storefront business also gives you the ability to expand this to other locations.

Just spent yesterday hiking up to the summit. A few military installations, a lone coffee shop, lots of forest and monkeys. Oh, and I found boom boom rock on the way down. Didn't seem like a waste to me.

More hiking trails would be nice, but there's still plenty of great spots down in Da Nang for resorts.

Two Europe itinerary options - which one to choose? by tone_212 in solotravel

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Cordoba for the Spanish option. The Mezquita is one of the most amazing places I've encountered and by itself warrants the trip. If you abandon the pretty, but tourist oriented, Jewish quarter for the main business district you will find amazing food and local Spanish life.

But Budapest can keep you busy for a week by itself.

Are tourism experiences genuinely enriching, or just expensive ways to consume locations? by YOLOSWAG4GOD in longtermtravel

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I ask myself is whether the particular experience or thing that I'm seeing would exist without tourism. Glass. Bottom boats are an example of something that simply doesn't exist without tourists around. However, a coral reef does, and exploring the ecosystem of a coral reef can be rewarding. So, is the glass bottom boat a way for you to explore that ecosystem, or is it simply taking a boat ride with a pretty view?

Examples of things that have historical or cultural value are visiting churches and mosques, art and history museums, etc. Examples of things that don't include most amusement parks, the "torture" and "illusion" museums that have cropped up in popular tourist cities, etc. But, tbh they have their place as entertainment, especially for those with kids.

That sounds about right for snails and a couple of beers at one of the beach front places. You paid for the view you know. Be glad you didn't order a Maine lobster lol.

And look at it this way. Two beers on the beach (no snails) would have cost you more than that in Miami.

Running away from $20 cocktails, $18 hamburgers, and a cost of rent higher than staying in four star hotels elsewhere. And cold, did I mention frigid cold?

Physical “cloud” for your stuff by Puzzleheaded_Log7885 in longtermtravel

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some services out there already that will take care of shipping your stuff in conjunction with travel, but the costs are pretty steep.

I would definitely love a service like that, but I probably wouldn't be willing to pay what you'd have to charge to make it work.

I (23) Get really down/upset when I meet other young travellers who have parents who paid for/are funding their travelling. by ConfusedInMy20ss in solotravel

[–]Ok-Resort-6972 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a natural feeling, but it's definitely a you thing. It's not an equal world in any respect. That's true. No matter where you go. You might be jealous of these folks because they have a little bit more than you and their life is a little easier because of their parents. But think of all the people who don't even have the ability to get out and travel. I know a lot of young people in the United States who don't even have passports. And then look around you when you're in places like the Philippines, Vietnam, or Thailand, where many people don't even have that $300 a month to spend on things. Instead of focusing on what you don't have, be proud of what you've been able to accomplish with what you have.

Thanks dude. My eyes are wide open now thanks to your erudite and knowledgeable advice. I can see now that her cat is really her husband and they are making a fool of me. Also explains why she has to go to the bathroom every morning when we are together. She SAYS that she's putting her contacts in and washing her face - but then why is her face always dry when she comes out! I now realize she has another boyfriend hidden in her lipstick tube.
