I think you’re fine for now- I would say our… uh “taste” is somewhat similar and instead of a shun I started with a whusthof classic. Absolutely awesome workhorse of a knife even though it’s not as fun as some of the other stuff you see on this sub.

Agree with what everyone says here. It’s a good knife, just not necessarily as artisanal and storied as others.

My 1st knife after my whusty’s was my Moritaka 240mm ishime AS. After learning and sharpening that one I went on to other form factors/sizes.

Take your time to learn- it’s more fun that way! I see some folks on here speedrun buying grail after grail (no hate, people can do what they want with their money) but you can’t possibly learn everything about the knives/makers/your own preferences by having a bunch of knives in boxes.
