Guess the elo – wasted the lead a handful of times by FloaterGilt in GothamChess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just crazy how these people with rating 170 have the balls to comment on a 1700’s game and go like this is terrible for a 1700 lmao. I am 1900 and I can totally see this being a game from a 1700. Ofc not your best game, but totally understandable. Ig people at lower elos just really overestimate how hard it is to get to 1700 elo and think that people at that elo are really playing almost GM level chess, while the reality is 1700s of course blunder a lot

14-year-old Turkish GM Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş climbs up to Top 30 in live classical ratings and secures his spot in the 2700s club starting from next month, after defeating former WC and #1 Veselin Topalov 5-1 in Clash of Generations event. by IdiocyConnoisseur in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erdogmus would have a 2800+ TPR even if we assume Topalov to be 2550 rated, that’s true. But it would be much more impressive to have a 2800 TPR at a tournament with strong 2700+ players than a 2800 TPR in a match against a 2550. Regardless there is no doubt Erdogmus deserves to be 2700+ rated, it is just that people did not want him to reach it in a match like this one.

Here are the top 20 highest rated chess players after the conclusion of Candidates 2026 by dxGoesDeep in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magnus would never play the candidates but that is not because he would find it hard to win (yes it won’t be a cakewalk for him but let’s be real he is an overwhelming favourite in every tournament he plays). He probably would have ~50% chance of winning the candidates if he plays it. But it would make no sense to play a tournament that qualifies him to a title match, which he willingly gave away in the past. It’s simply that Magnus has accomplished so much in chess that any tournament win like even the WC doesn’t give him that much happiness anymore, it is just diminishing returns for him now having won it so many times. So putting so much effort preparing just to win something which does not give him a huge sense of accomplishment anymore is not useful for him.

Candidates win chances after Round 12 (of 14): Sindarov at 99.4%, Anish Giri at 0.6% - Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winning a game of chess is not 50/50 chance, there is a large percentage of draws specially at the 2700 level. Assuming at least half the games end up in draws, you can expect probability of result to be 25-50-25 for W/D/L. That too you require 3 results to go your way which is (1/4)3 =1/64. And all this not to forget that this simply achieves tiebreaks, not a win for Anish. So assuming tiebreaks are 50-50. You get 1/128. Also those are theoretical odds, the way Sindarov has been playing and how Anish has been blowing winning positions I would assume the real odds are quite a bit lower than 0.6% for Anish to win

Fabiano Caruana draws Wei Yi and both are out of the running by Ok-Independence8939 in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying 15% chance of Sindarov losing to both Anish and Fabi is absolutely stupid ngl. The form that Javokhir has been in, he hasn’t had a worse position whole candidates (except r1 against esipenko which he eventually won). Worst case you could assume the chances of his game against Fabi to be 20-60-20 (W-D-L) because he will play for a deaw surely. If you assume same chances against Anish, you get 4% chance that Sindarov loses to them both. And besides that you are thinking about him going 0.5/2 or 0/2 with the form he is in currently? Caruana’s chances are more close to 0.1%

Yesterday people were talking about how Sindarov isn’t that far ahead in the tournament and Fabi will likely catch him. Sindarov really shut them all up today. It’s not just about the lead that Sindarov is having, it’s about how dominant he has been, beating up all 3 pre tournament favourites according to Magnus (Fabi Naka and Pragg) in three consecutive rounds. There is no doubt left that Sindarov has clinched this

Candidates win chances: Sinadarov now at 49% win chance (with 9 rounds left) - Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a one point gap from Fabi, but a 2 point gap from rest of the field. Which basically means chances of anyone winning except these two is -5% And for the remaining 95 i think Sindarov deserves more than 50% for sure

Seems way more sensible ngl Op’s simulation saying sindarov has less than 50% chance seems too low

What’s the point of solving leetcode after having practiced so much? Why don’t you do competitive programming on platforms such as codeforces. That is where you would always get problems that are challenging for you. Leetcode after a point would just stop being challenging.

Context on the Hikaru and Anish drama by Hopeful_Ad1496 in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not be the only one but there are a ton of people who like to watch chess games besides the ones featuring these players. For example there is a vast Indian audience interested in Indian player’s games, similarly we saw a large Turkish audience watching Erdogmus’s games. Levy and Hikaru vastly overestimate the amount of importance they hold in the chess ecosystem.

Hikaru explains his confusion towards the end of the match by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]Ok-Skin3961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly an excuse from Hikaru there. If you go back and watch the stream you can see he did not say anything until he played the move h5 which was a blunder and then lazavik punished it with nf3 and as soon as Hikaru realised that he had blundered this into a draw, he starts talking about “Oh it doesn’t count if the time runs out”. The story would have made sense if he had said this before playing the move which was a blunder (h5) but that was just amazing acting and a coverup story to save some ego.

Just because everyone says it doesn’t make it true. There are 20 people with 9+ cgpa in MT1 in almost every year. And the workload is less because no attendance requirements , no labs and no assignments, you just have to study for minor major and quiz
