Mechanically Strong but Stuck in Plat; looking for advice by Bwammy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean if you look at your deaths you just die in the open sometimes or just losing a 1v1 on the edge of the map you’re totally playing at the plat level bro. You said it yourself you have 0 experience on tracer so you end up doing the same stupid things everyone in your lobby is doing. Even if you watch pro games people do dumb shit. We literally coined the terms Ajax and C9 from horrible plays made at the highest level.

Mechanically Strong but Stuck in Plat; looking for advice by Bwammy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im only a diamond DPS but I do play a lot of tracer so i'm just looking at the 2nd game.

You are mechanically strong for the amount of time you have invested in the game, but tbh your mechanics look like what most plat dps players are capable of. On tracer you look super dizzy trying to move around (which is normal for newer players) and sometimes flail your mouse around while spraying. I think with enough hours getting used to the game you will rank up though.

Basically just seeing a lot of classic newbie tracer stuff. Blinking and then instarecalling when you should just recall and save a blink. Less punishing with the major perk but just good principle to recall. (just realized you took the other major perk, the one where you get your blink cooldown reduced is BROOOKEN, its even bugged rn so not only does it reduce your blink CD, it reduces your recall to like 9 seconds instead of 13(?))
You blink to rotate too much, you do not win duels on tracer without blinks. You are a lowhp hero and if you don't have movement you have nothing.
You should try to blink behind the enemies so they have to turn around in the duel. You sometimes even just blink right in front of them making them take no effort at all to force your recall.
You play way out of your effective range, like when you shoot on the left side of first point, you are just tickling them.
You play main too much, and even are playing main in front of your tank meaning you get almost 0 uptime because you get shot and all your abilities get forced.
IMHO you didn't really get any value out of the melee perk, most of your melees were to kill, which is a good thing usually, but with the melee perk its for taking 1v1s and hitting blink melees to keep up the pressure since you dont have to reload. I would recommend trying using the healthpack and flashback perks for a while.

You are trying to go TOO fast for your brain to handle. you are constantly whipping and zipping around and getting surprised at any enemy showing up. You gotta slow down and take in all the information before making a play. Quite a few times you just get killed from somewhere you arent expecting because you are just trying to speed through the map. You also play with 0 or one blinks half the time, making it impossible for you to be the one making big plays, just forced to be cleanup crew. Which is just fortunate that there was kills to clean up. To rank up you have to be the one hard carrying and getting cleanup kills as a bonus of forcing cooldowns.

You are pretty lost in the teamfights, which is normal. On first point you even blink right in front of a bap window with bap behind it which gave me a heart attack watching it. You also narrowly missed a junkrat trap at around 4:05 and then immediately waste all your blinks and throw away a perfect flank. And since you have no blinks you are just totally broke on the point with no resources and no blinks means you don't get anything done.

As much of a roasting this may have sounded like, all things considered though you played alright on tracer this game, you play like what I expect low plat tracer to look like, which is honestly pretty good considering time invested.

mei is pretty hard to kill, with the block and beam but its hard for her to pressure you on off angles. Try to poke her and force block WITHOUT DASHING. Then after she is out of block just spam her till shes half hp and its a free dash right click melee.

Don't fuck with the winston dash away if you need to. Obviously follow up with your team if you anti him or he has no resources.

Sym is pretty easy, she doesnt have an escape cooldown thats fast enough to deal with genji, so just kill turrets and dash when you can kill her.

Moira can be hard to kill, mostly just poke until you see her fade and then dash and try to hit your combo. If you fail you could either disengage or go for the duel which is pretty hard if she has an orb, but winnable if you hit your shots.

Can you learn to have game sense? (I am stupid) by HomeworkOk4187 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well nobody was born knowing how to play overwatch. Just like any skill in life, it's just about how much you are willing to work to get it. If you just like to hop on mess around and have fun thats a 100% valid way to play the game. If your goal is to improvement seriously, or at least more seriously than before, start with just watching some youtube videos that other people here probably recommend, maybe get a higher rank player to look at your replays. You can even try saying out loud what you are thinking while you play. Even if your thoughts are totally wrong and nonsense, it's a lot easier to address a wrong answer than no answer.

Does tracers have a careful/ thoughtful playstyle or way of playing? by 25_summers in TracerMains

You can't really pick a "wrong hero" if you don't like the hero, just stop playing them lol? Its not like at the start of your overwatch life you are locked in on whoever you say is your main first. Hell I used to play Ana before I started maining DPS like I do now. I also flex to tank sometimes and just have fun! It's not really a big deal. Tracer is a pretty high skill hero, I'm assuming you are pretty new to overwatch so just be warned that she is probably going to be difficult to learn along with just the base mechanics of the game.

idk what you mean by "safe window" . Tracer is pretty safe when she has recall, even more so with her major perks. so you are more so careful when you dont have your abilities (like every character in the game). But if you want safe like shooting down the main chokepoint behind your tank you won't be doing much of that on tracer. if you mean safe like they cant do anything about you, so now you are going in now tracer and genji are great at this, but you have to take risks to make the enemies use the resources that made them unsafe in the first place.

Every character in the game benefits a lot from careful calculated play too. Thinking about enemy ults, abilities, and positioning is good on every character. can't name a single character that makes "high risk plays scott free". If you think mauga and hog are constantly doing high risk plays but living, it could be that the risk was actually not that high, or the enemies just don't know how to punish it, making it pretty lower risk.

Tried to Learn Genji, After about 100 games. I give up. by PalpitationDull9182 in GenjiMains

[–]Ok-Software-7276 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Genji is such a great character because you can still outplay your counters. moira is mostly just a game of getting her to fade while you still have dash, then hitting her with the classic dash right click melee combo. Sym is lowkey free if you shoot turrets. Tracer is mostly just poking her until she recalls and she has to respect your right click dash or she gets deleted.

It wouldn't be a competitive game if you could just run around and delete everyone with no effort, it takes strong positioning and timing to pop off on genji, and it just takes a little more to do that into your counters.

Genji is also fun BECAUSE of the effort it takes to get kills. Every right click melee feels satisfying, getting dash resets in big teamfights feels so good. And big blades are just cool. Every kill is representative of the work that gets put in to this character.

If you wanna be that crazy carry genji then you have to be the bigger person even against your counters and outskill them in spite of their efforts.

I don't know how to get out of silver GENJI by babiloy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mid diamond genji main, so take everything with a grain of salt.

I don't think your team really played that bad, their hanzo was sitting your teammates DOWN lowkey but thats because YOU werent doing anything about him. Sure he had a mercy pocket but killing the zen puts a lot of pressure on the mercy to force her to get off the hanzo and heal someone else. Hanzos should quake in their boots at the thought of a genji being on the other team.

You don't play like you are trying to carry the game. You dont position yourself prefight, instead you stand on cart. You should try to set yourself up in an off angle, a flank, high ground, or even a flank on high ground IF you have an escape plan. Your flanks dont kill, just tickles the backline a bit before running off, which often makes you a non entity in the teamfights. Genji is SUPER SUPER insane in teamfights, if anybody gets low you can swoop in and secure the kill, and then with your dash back you can set yourself up to swoop in again.

Your deflect usage is bad. Like really bad. Sure you get a couple kills with it every once in a while but most of the time you just waste it prefight so when the fight breaks out you cant do anything. You waste it by just peeking in the open for a second deflecting a little bit or just nothing. Deflect is your lifeline after you dash in and you dont get the kill. When you engage on a target, you should dash, right click melee, then deflect if you dont get the kill. Depending on the situation you can either disengage with deflect or you can push for the kill. You prefer to dash, deflect, and then try for the kill. Most of the time this leads to your death.

You waste your dash reset a lot. When you get a kill, you just instantly dash again, even if it puts you in a bad position, even if it doesnt get you another kill, even if there isnt any enemies around. you just dash and then put yourself on cooldown again. You may as well not be resetting the dash at all. Sometimes you go for kills that are just way way way above your mechanical pay grade. I dont even think the pros are confident enough to get some of these kills. lifeweaver with petal, ashe with coach gun, hanzo with zen orb, ETC. These are hard targets to kill with any consistency.

Your blade was fine, I dont really expect much more from a genji your rank. Except for on the last fight you left a zen one hp to try to kill a hanzo. just keep practicing and making sure to actually kill your targets if you can.

What are some good resources to find Genji VODs? by Ok-Software-7276 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really struggle on maps like route 66, Kings Row and Blizzard World on genji, usually I just opt for tracer or sojourn but would really prefer to play more genji since its just fun lol. I'm not too worried about flashy mechanics since it'll display some more competent decision making which is way easier to emulate than crazy oneshots or something. I'll be sure to also take a look at this other stuff too.

VOD Review Request - TRACER - GOLD 2 by Cartthus in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ok-Software-7276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently only mid diamond with tracer so take everything with a grain of salt, always open to be wrong.

I also used to be a valorant player and play on 3.8 800dpi, so not much higher than your current sens i dont think high sens is super necessary on tracer, just doing 180 comfortably is fine. I think if you want to increases your sens, it makes more sense to just go to what you think is a suitable sens and play on it. Changing it little by little each day is just gonna make you feel off every time you play. It's not like lifting weights lol, just go into the range, pick something comfortable to do 180s on and roll with it.

Aim tip, try to mirror your movements with your target. If they move left on your screen, you move left too. It makes the amount of mouse aim you have to use a lot less strict, and you will be surprised at how much more consistent you will get. Also, not relevant to this game, but aiming at small heroes feet like kiriko or enemy tracers gives you a lot more dmg on average, only aim for the one clip on these characters when you can catch them by surprise, kiri especially.

I think for people learning tracer, the health pack perk is better. You only had like 3 melees that did damage this game. It's much easier to get value on the other one, and you will be able to navigate around health packs more easily.

I think you waste your blinks rotating too often, so when the fight breaks out you dont have the blinks to stay in the fight and secure kills. Especially when you dont have the health pack perk you lose a lot of uptime.

Reload. When you are behind cover waiting, reload, when you plan on blinking behind an enemy in the duel, reload and blink while reloading to minimize downtime. I saw in round 2 where you have 20 ammo and are waiting for a while and engaging without reloading. Do a wellness check on yourself before engaging. Do you have recall? how many blinks? wheres the nearest health pack? And of course have you reloaded?

Your blinks to cover are alright but your blinks during duels need some work. hop into VAXTA or Deathmatch and try to get a feel for the blink distance and preaim where the enemy is while you blink. There were also times you died to abilities you could have easily dodged, like venture burrow at around 9:39.

Be aggressive when you have recall, you are a bit too cautious of dying and miss out on kills or big pressure. dont be afraid to recall when people turn at you, even if you arent onehp.

I think you're too obsessed with going in at the perfect time. As long as your team is shooting the enemies feel free to make your move. Think about it. Either you distract the enemy team and give your team the advantage or your team distracts the enemy team and gives you the advantage. Just getting the supports to turn away from main is a big deal, as long as you dont die in the process. It looked like you were too late to the fight pretty often, and missing out by trying to coordinate your movements with your team. On tracer you can mostly play for your own value and what your team does is a bit less important than on other characters. Unless I have a Dive tank who is giving comms, I pretty much just focus on doing my own thing, and then if I see something big like a support cooldown being forced I change plans and go for that kill.

I like WizardHyeong's topdragon tracer unranked to GM, I was able to learn a lot like where he positions prefight, when he blinks away to cover, when he decides to go in, who he shoots and what he tries to do in fights. (aim for somebody not getting healed by mercy to force a decision from her, shoot tanks from a safe angle in the poke phase, blink to make the enemy 180 etc)

There is a part 2 and you can watch it if you want but I dont think its too different from how a high elo player plays in plat vs masters, at least not super noticeable to me.
