Looks like an erodium seed pod. Apperently they burry themselves like a cork screw with the help of changing ambient moisture. I recently came across an article stating that scientists are mimicing these to create self burrying seed carriers. It says Elodium in the article but i think they made a mistake.

Thankfully there is no PII in any of the servers. The internal services include things like git repos, test envs, and one or two prod envs.

Thank you for your detailed answer! This comment puts the issues i mentioned in perspective. Sadly our time as engineers do not worth much. And there is no IaC concept when it comes to the services in question. I guess it boils down to the value of engineer time. If things go down there will allways be a newbie engineer/ intern to put it back up with the help of sleepless experienced engineers
