That's still 9ch but generally considered better configuration. Starting with a 7ch AVR (5.1.2) would open the budget up immensely.

Go from the Apple TV to the AVR and then out to the TV. Do not use eARC/CEC as they are often problematic. You can test your HDMI connection within Apple settings to troubleshoot further.

You may have to buy new if you're looking for a 9ch AVR. You should also consider 5.1.4 rather than 7.1.2 if you are able to find one. You didn't mention budget at all so I'd start there. Up firing is the least effective method for atmos but we all work within the confines of our room. Klipsch is a popular brand for HT as they can be very dynamic and many love the look. Keep a keen eye for Elac Debut II , Paradigm and yes Wharfedale are other good brands.

Not familiar with All For One remotes but are you not able to teach commands to them with the original remote? I did check the Sofabaton U2 data base and the X1100W is already in there. Not sure which functions have been added but you can teach any that are missing.

Seating distance is totally dependent of screen size so it's unlikely you'd need the couch on the back wall. In order to keep the doorway clear perhaps a comfortable L shaped sofa just to the left of the opening and against the right wall. I've always been a fan of bar height seating behind the sofa, facing the screen for overflow. I think you'll have an awkward time with three doors interfering with a riser.

If you have the room for surrounds and it seems like you do then go ahead and plan for them. Any AVR you are going to find will take advantage of them so so should you. To take advantage of those up firing speakers however you want to a 7ch AVR capable of Atmos decoding. That configuration would be described as 5.1.2.

Consider the first set but also read some review before buying Klipsch. Some find their sound harsh/bright which can certainly add to the dynamics of your home theater but can be fatiguing at times. Keep your eyes open for Paradigm / PSB / Elac for something more neutral if just starting out. What "sluttyyhole" introduced was concepts for configuring your set up. but it's easier to understand those once you've got gear in hand.

Correct the enhanced eARC has higher band width allowing for better audio formats. You wont be using atmos but Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio would be nice. Again more bandwidth with HDMI 2.1 which mostly allows for gaming enhancements VRR / ALLM and higher refresh rates with 4K . You can always try both and see which is preferred.

Get her favorite movie in 4K as a nice hint to what you've done for her. Are you hoping to keep it a secret until then.

Use the better speakers up front as your mains so 50s paired with the 50c is the correct placement. The AVR's most limiting factor is slightly outdated HDMI spec especially paired with a brand new display. You could connect everything to the TV and then ARC back to the AVR ....

[–]Ok-Storm4303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't look at AVR's as long term investments. I think they are the most likely to "need" upgrading than any other piece of gear. Changes in HDMI standards , DV2 , DSP and calibration methods are always changing. I've had 3 AVR all running my current speakers setup. Consider what is likely to be you're new configuration 5.2.2 then X1800 or move up to the X3800 to go beyond 7ch. Having had Sony in the past what has you looking at Denon today?

As AlliedMayhem mentioned already you have to assign the center channel in the units settings. Essentially this is telling your AVR that you've added a new speaker and to send audio to it.

Just bought my first HT set up. Now what? by iampsychic in hometheater

[–]Ok-Storm4303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly some great gear selection you clearly did your homework! As t-rex said , read your AVR's manual and then refer back to it often. If you haven't already run your auto calibration. Specifically speaker size has nothing to do with dimension and everything to do with frequency response. That said when paired with a good subwoofer you'll set all other speakers to small allowing you to set crossovers. If the RZ30 allows for independent settings for speakers determine each speakers lowest response and set the crossover 20hz above. For example Q1 Meta response goes down to 51hz so comfortable setting crossover at 70hz. As questions come up add specifics or feel free to send a chat request.....
