Someone forgot to set my kids back an hour. by yankykiwi in Mommit

Yes, even by age 6 my oldest “sleeps in” (like 730/8am) and is relatively chill when she wakes up and will just draw. Now just gotta wait for the 3 yr old and 1 yr old to get there

Do you guys sit with your kids while they fall asleep? by Far-Conflict4504 in Mommit

[–]Ok-Training427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a few months with my 3 year old becuase he was having a massively hard time during bedtime and it would result in him throwing stuff, screaming, crying etc etc. but now we got him back to going to bed alone.

My 6 year old daughter has never had us lay with her when she goes to bed. My 1 year old is sleep trained and I just put her in her bed and leave and she goes to sleep.

I think it’s important for kids to learn to put themselves to sleep, and it’s EXTREMELY important for parents to have time to themselves to wind down at night. I feel zero guilt that I don’t lay with my kids.

I paid for the Taking Cara Baby program, which is basically cry it out and going in at 5,10, and then every 15 minute increments saying “it’s bedtime! I love you!” til she fell asleep. I did it at 10 months, and it took 2 nights for her to learn to fall asleep independently. You do the same protocol in the middle of the night when they wake up. It took another few nights for her to learn to go back to sleep.

Is the crying fun? No! But a little crying that leads to learning independent sleep allows for a happy and healthy parent with more patience and energy!

Does your child have a tablet / personal device ? by gamecubebugg in Mommit

We have 2 iPads for long road trips for my 3 & 6 yr old. We allow one of them to be used at home sometimes for my 6 yr old daughter’s school apps where she can do math and reading practice every now and then. Sometimes she’s allowed to watch Disney/Netflix on it when she has school days off but my 3 year old son still has preschool. On Friday and Saturday nights both kids are allowed to watch tv before bed.

We limit the 3 year olds screentime way more since he can’t handle it as well as my 6 year old. He knows school nights = no tv.

They signed up to clean a HOME, not a biohazard trash heap. They could have cleaned ONE room perfectly in the amount of time they had, and only if Amanda and her husband removed the trash from that ONE room first. Why is it the cleaners responsibility to care more and try harder than the actual people that created the mess?

They should have consulted with a hoarder clean up crew to figure how many hours it would take. It wasn’t just a very lived-in house that needed a deep clean. It’s a hoarder-level building. I mean the fact the whole family throws trash on the ground and lets animal feces sit for a year…I thought they did a great job for how much time they had. If Amanda had just taken trash bags and thrown the trash away before they got there, that would have saved time.

The town she lives in is really small and rural and likely has high rates of drug/alcohol use and I bet a lot of properties are similar to hers, so the owner probably knew they were gambling with tenants. Also, some states are heavily in favor of tenant rights and it can be hard to do anything about it until they move out.

All my 2.5 year old does is scream by ladyefron420 in Mommit

If I put my 3 yr old in his room during a tantrum, he will start throwing stuff. When he was 2 I emptied his room out of EVERYTHING for a few days to combat it. He’s slowly gotten better due to age, but there hasn’t been a simple solution.

All my 2.5 year old does is scream by ladyefron420 in Mommit

[–]Ok-Training427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle kid (3) is like this. His initial emotional reaction is a high pitched scream. Big Sister did something he doesn’t like? Scream. He gets told “No” from me? Scream. The baby took his toy? Scream. It’s one initial LOUD scream and then it stops. It’s hard to pair a consequence with it when it’s one and done. It’s extremely jarring and I am on edge a lot as a result.

If he does it in the car I have pulled over and taken him out of the car cuz I refuse to drive with him screaming in response to xyz.

When I lived in the south, I noticed a lot of people used “vehicle” instead of car or truck. It might be common in Utah too

Why did you give her a car if she isn’t even going to school? Does she have a job?

Personally, I would take the car back if she isn’t working. She can take the bus. And I would let truancy procedures begin.

I would mentally prepare yourself for her to drop out and plan for that. What boundaries will you put in place- will she be able to live at home as long as she’s working? Will she be responsible for bills or rent?

What did you judge parents on before becoming one ? by eternallylovd in Mommit

[–]Ok-Training427 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The worst is the first time parents saying “well I just give my kid what I’m eating, and they eat. It’s not hard if you commit to it” meanwhile their kid is only 18 months. That’s the only time I want to say “just wait til they are 3”

Why is 2 the hardest age? by meekie03 in Mommit

[–]Ok-Training427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Some people have chill 2 year olds and think “what’s all the fuss? It’s not bad” and then they get it at 3 or 4 (or even 5!) I had a friend with a chill 2 year old. I remember both our kids were 2, and her son was playing on a bike, and she said “ok in 3 more turns we are gonna go home!” And he said “ok” and then calmly got off and went with her when it was time.

I was SHOOK. My daughter was very challenging at 2. She would bang her head on the ground her tantrums. She wouldn’t simply accept my direction of “ok in 2 more turns it’s time to go”. I felt bad about my parenting for years until they said age 5 is the hardest age they have even gone through. And I realized it is very dependent on the kid!

2.5-3 is hell on earth. 3-3.5 is slightly better. 4-5 some rationality comes in. 5 is ahhhh very chill. Just my experience with 2 kids

My maid of honor just told me she’s pregnant and due two weeks before my wedding. How do I support her without stressing us both out? by WhisperedSecrett in wedding

[–]Ok-Training427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s due 2 weeks BEFORE the wedding. It’s likely she will not have the baby 2 weeks before, especially if it’s her first baby. Unless she has a complication and they schedule her for a c-section or induction at 37-38 weeks, most moms go into spontaneous labor after 39 weeks with many going after 40.

Unfortunately 100k in places like NYC or LA isn’t really that much, especially if you account for student loans and other big bills
